Lynx 6x6 Review/Guide, Common Mistakes with Wheeled Vehicles

5 жыл бұрынI review the Panhard AML Lynx 6x6, a tier 8 French wheeled light tank in World of Tanks (WoT), with replays of tier 10 Prokhorovka and Murovanka battles.
The Lynx 6x6 combines a potent gun with a highly mobile platform, but like other wheeled vehicles it has horrible view range and negligible armor. (Same summary I said of the EBR Hotchkiss, which I also enjoyed.)
Strengths and Weaknesses
+ Superb top speed (80)
+ Superb acceleration
+ High pen HE round (90)
+ Excellent gun depression (-8)

+ Good silver APCR alpha (240)
- Very low view range (310)
- Paper armor
- Low HP (920)
- Relatively poor accuracy (0.40 base)
- Relatively low DPM
- As with all wheeled vehicles, can't turn in place and can be awkward in cramped areas

This tank can get by without VStab due to the low dispersion values. I prefer Vents over VStab for the improvement to view range.

It was funny to see your teams chats in the first video because I was on the opposing team in the Emil II and we were having the exact same complaints. Arty Spam, getting spotted from mid uncontested, and "moron team" comments were frequent. Between the AMX M4 and myself we gave up the hill because of what ended up being your spotting. Hits from mid and arty made it impossible to advance which is what ultimately what did me in, it was nice to see the M4 hold out until the end. If you want the replay from the other side let me know, I'm sure I still have it.

Long time viewer. I have always loved the light tank game play. I'm not very good, I don't play enough to improve my game play, or even grind tanks. Your videos have improved my game without that in game experience for a long time. This video is outstanding. I absolutely love these tanks, so thank you for the education. I hope you will continue with more replays particularly about these tanks, although all your light tank videos are all outstanding. Thank you for your work, keep it up!

Let me tell you a funny story about the Lynx. I got the tank about a week ago, played about 60 battles in it, average WN8 somewhere around 1800-2000 in it. Reeeaaally liked the tank. Last evening I join up with my clan and do some tier 8 detachments. People started asking me: Why are you going so slow? I say :"i don't know, this is the max speed, 60km/h". Turns out, ages ago when I played ELC AMX i switched the X button to a 3'rd mouse button on my mouse to prevent hull from turning. So when i tried X mode (speed mode) on Lynx by pressing X, nothing happened and because of that i played it completely unagressive, I didn't Yolo, didn't suicide, etc. Yesterday when I discovered my X button problem, i corrected and entered some pub games. I failed miserably! I felt instantly the instinct to use all that speed and died in the first minute of the game constantly. Moral of the story - if you only use that speed to GET OUT of trouble and the rest of the time use it like a normal light but with high speed bullets, great cammo and great HE against other lights it works beautifully!

Always a pleasure watching your work Taugrim and I couldn't agree more with your assessment of the French wheeled Lights. Staying alive is key, larger maps are more forgiving, I'd love to see how you handle Ensk, Himmelsdorf or Lakeview. I have a hard time with them running into buildings and detritus. That speedometer on screen is quite distracting, every now and then I kept mistaking it for 6th sense. :D I think it would be better if it was green for example.

It's barely visible on snowy maps but green may not be much of an upgrade, considering most of the maps have a lot of green background.

Great content Taugrim! I have to agree about the wheelie players being non-light players, they seem to have this crazy yolo probability and the biggest complaint I have about them is the unpredictability that the people playing them seem to exhibit. I find it funny when I load into a game and hear people complaining because the enemy team has a wheelie, because for me I would rather they be on the enemy team since there are better odds 2 minutes in that our AMX 13 75 will still be alive when their EBR is back in the garage.

i love the wheeled vehicles as scouts. They have the speed that the t50-2 used to have compared to the other tanks. I have to hope my team will move forwards and give me spotting assist as i can usually get campers shooting all over the place and smarter defenders coming back to get me. it looks like sui scouting and isnt. can dig out those pesky high tier passive scouts by zipping past them and lighting them for the team. good video, as always

I saved up xp on premium tanks for months. Then bought loot boxes at xmas and got something like 75k gold. Converted hundreds of thousands of xp at 35 to 1. And free xp'd wheeled lights straight to tier 10. I also got enough credits from all the premium tank games with boosters and loot boxes to buy tier 7- 10 wheeled lights. Also got the xmas crew and trained it to 4 skills by the time wheeled lights came out. So GG.

Enjoy your videos - thanks for sharing your games and thought process behind your actions/tactics. I know i'm picking up lots of good stuff, both big and small, from every one I watch. You shouldn't have to defend your choice to use any of the in game equipment/content. Anyone complaining is, imo, just a complainer and as you would say it.. "salty" over nothing. All equipment and gold rounds for that matter, are allowed and completely available to anyone for the price of in game credits or time spent playing game as wargamming tends to hand out lots of premium consumables

What are the main things a blue player does wrong that a unicum does right? Because I'm blue and I've been getting better but now my wn8 growth has slowed down and I seem to stop at just between blue and purple recent. Also a lot of people have low winrate compared to their wn8, but I actually have quite high winrate compared to my wn8, how does that come, do I play too aggressive, too passive or something else? (Btw I think you and Lemmingrush are one of the most useful youtubers to watch because you both tell what your thought process is in battle and most other wot youtubers don't do that :).

So a few things: A. WR is easily padded by platooning with other skilled players B. WR is easily influenced by choice of tank The difference between blues and purples 1. blues tend to shoot the things that are shootable, whereas purples move to advantageous positions to create flanking fire 2. blues tend to trade favorably, whereas purples tend to avoid trading and deal damage safely 3. blues tend to see things on the map that are happening now, whereas purples read the map and predict what will happen 30-60 seconds in the future 4. blues tend to understand not to drive into exposed areas of fire, whereas purples have mastery knowledge of vision mechanics and know where and how to gain a spotting and 1st-shot advantage The differences are very nuanced. It's why I talk in such great detail about my decision-making process throughout a battle.

I don't platoon though and I'm f2p, I do however play some good tanks, e.g. Skoda T50, but another thing: my wn8 in that tank (around 2500) is higher than other tanks but I have 2300 avg dmg and that seems really low? I've seen some unicum stats and I think they do way more dmg or is that just me? And also my survival rate is really low. I saw in a comment of you last year that your survival rate should be 15 percent under your winrate, but mine isn't (had to check but I knew it was low: mine's 32 but my overall winrate is 54). I think that's mainly because at the end of the game I'm too impatient and think everyone is farming damage and I'm losing out so I'm probably too aggresive. I've heard you talk about when to recognise a game is won or lost and that's really useful because I struggle with that I think.

IMO wheel tanks are balanced in the "statistical" sense, it's pretty in the good players hands. It's like a little tank PLUS. Even higher skill ceiling and lower skill floor than light tanks. My t44100 had easily out spotted a wheel tank. I am those "a-hole" play who installed XVM. Even some of blue players are having trouble playing wheeled vehicles. BTW, you are my favorite wot youtuber. I watch your videos again and again. I am a new player. I struggled playing my t92lt, I had a wn8 of 500 on that tank. But now I am having fun on that tank, and I am improving the stat on that tank pretty quickly.

Ha ha I personally chased an EBR 105 in my LT100 just because he beat me to my spotting location. Luckily for me, he didn't expect me to chase him down and got shut down conveniently thanks to the troll armor and a my team mates. Wheeled tanks are annoying to those who play light TANKS. they can't see anything, and only ruin the lives of regular light tank players.

@@ijhsa7452 yes I agree. The thing is, they are so fast and can close the distance to the good spotting locations that they don't get hit till we get lit. Since LTs can't run as fast, they get slaughtered, and the cars just race off somewhere else.

If you find yourself losing 1v1's to wheeled vehicles in a light tank your doing something wrong, especially at tiers 9 and 10 as your own story shows. Even at lower tiers light tanks often have higher DPM and if you position yourself well you should be able to kill them, or at least have as much as a chance as you would against any other light. The wheeled tanks are fun but they have such poor view range compared to other lights that you should often be out spotting the wheeled vehicles and often not get lit yourself. The HE round is fun but inconsistent, for every battle it pens is another where it's no pens and super low damage per shot. And I don't know why you would just try and run away as obviously that is the wrong strategy, especially against wheeled tanks which everyone knows will be the fastest tier for tier. Use your view range and often superior DPM to see them first and shoot them down. Although they're super fun I don't find any of the wheelies more of a threat than any other light tank is and in fact in many situations the lack of view range really hurts them versus other light tanks.

It seems like you guys don't exactly understand what Roach Martel is trying to point out here. Yolo wheelies counter traditional passive and semi-passive scouting spots very often and that's the issue here. It's annoying as hell, of course.

I'd love to see similar vids about wheelies as what you did about light tank tactics. They differ quite a bit as wheelies should be considered a tank type in addition to the rest of them.

I'd consider however my wheelie vids in general got more downvotes than normal. People don't like them and don't want to see me publishing content. I get it, they make a lot of people aggro. Although IMO the only really problematic wheelies are the EBR 75 FL 10 (too good gun, Capt America wheels) and the EBR 90 & 105 (Capt America wheels).

I can surely see and understand your concern. However, wheelies are in game and we just have to find out ways to play with and against them instead of whining about how they have ruined the game. Which they have by speeding up the gameplay from tanking to shooter (which started earlier with meds and lights gaining a lot of top speed and first spot advantages...)

I can only speak for the EU server, but we are earning premium consumables on, practically, a daily basis from WG events & specials. The notion that it is unfair or "cheating" to use them sounds more like a serious case of "butt hurt" or overplaying the "purist" card

I think the point Taugrim was making should be viewed in the context of his videos. He is driving home the point that even if you do not, for instance, use gold, you can still play very well. It makes his tutorials accessible to players that stick to the basics.

As a Strv S1 player, I see yolo wheelies as target practice. Leading shots is something you get an instinct for that may apply across all games. There might be some practice tool online for it.

I would like your opinion on the damage model of the wheels. I think that is the main point of the "overpoweredness" of these vehicles. Wheels eating huge caliber gun hit with no further effects.

It's a big problem with the EBR 90, EBR 105, and EBR 75 FL 10. It's the #1 thing that should be fixed IMO. I also think the guns of wheelies are way too accurate on-the-move.

You can't equip Binocs on the wheeled vehicles. It was an intentional decision by WG. It would be problematic from a balance perspective if the wheeled vehicles could do that, because Binocs would fix the view range limitation. E.g. imagine a wheeled vehicle rushing to a forward advantageous spotting position in a bush, activating Binocs, and spotting many enemy tanks early. It would be imbalanced. > Play-for-fun, in my opinion, is an excuse people use for not getting better at the game. Agreed.

I do think that the HE has a lot higher potential on these tanks than AP and for that reason alone, it is worth spamming the HE in at least a 50/50 fashion just because the HE is so good compared to its contemporaries.

With all the wheeled vehicles, food is highly beneficial for boosting the view range. I do find that I'm having to take Firefighting skills since with food I have to sacrifice the Auto Fire Extinguisher.

I mean Ive driven both this and the FL 10 around just right click left clicking on enemy tanks and have found vast amounts of sucess in doing so (though less relevant in the Lynx's case as I only have 3 battles in it). For their lack of view range these vehciles are probably the most effective scouts in the game now, just because of their speed. I still think theyre broken in the current maps. Have you picked up the EBR 90 yet? We need to play again soon, Ive been on a semi break from WoT as Ive hit a bit of a slump, but Im gonna try to get back in it. (I also picked up playing Final Fantasy 14 again, so thats eating up some time... I need to find a better balance).

I have a long grind ahead of me in the Lynx 6x6. Only have like 40k XP towards unlocking the EBR 90, which seems to be significantly outperforming other tier 9 lights in the early going. I went through a huge slump in January, decreased my playing time, and have been doing much better / enjoying the game more.

Follow up comment. In my opinion, the wheelies are very strong in the hands of good light tank players and very bad in the hands of most other players. Your comment about win curves is probably dead-on. Good players always make better use of tanks, but in the case of wheelies, I feel like the difference between good and bad will be more significant.

My question is why is the lynx included when they could’ve went for the panhardn AML 90, it’s basically like a lynx anyways but 4x4 then wg can just do something about the speed.

With respect, you can't really claim that an SRTV S1 at a little over 100m range hitting and killing you means that the wheeled tanks are not overpowered in how difficult it is to hit them. That is a Swedish S-tank with great gun handling and incredibly high shell velocity. It's basically point and click at that range, and you were driving away from him so his lead requirement became 0. The shell would hit you in nearly the same tic as he fired. Under any other circumstances, be that you driving across the target, or using terrain better, or swerving, or him being in a tank with less accuracy, or AP with lower shell velocity, or at longer range, it becomes INCREDIBLY difficult to hit these things. In an open field, with no restrictions on their movement, it's hard to hit them even with tier X mediums and APCR (possible, you have to time it right still) and I think it's fair to say no other vehicles in the game can yolo around tier X meds and get away with it, which I have personally seen a platoon of EBR 90s doing on Malinovka.

I have one question - I usually prefer to stay at hill, because it allows me to better control enemy engagement. You said, that it was correct play from AMX's side, to go into middle, but I think it really isn't. You can use bushes to spot cap and surroundings, which will still protect back of patton and you are not risking getting shot by something from enemy spawn. Patton made huge mistake, when he went all in on that type and if he stayed behind ridge line and just tried to spot type for spg and if amx were on the hill, they could defend better. But that's just my opinion, mayby you can tell me, why going mid was better?

I left hill because I say an opportunity to push the western flank. Once we won west, the most logical place to go was to spot their arty at the north crossing of the tracks. After being spotted by the Patton and shot by the AMX, I did briefly consider circling back to hill but decided not to given that I was concerned the AMX might spot me if I crossed the tracks south. I don't think there's a wrong answer here, so long as I didn't yolo. Agreed, Patton messed up big time.

The AMX played it correctly IMO. There isn't anywhere else he could safely go. If he goes north to the M48 Patton, then he's allowing me to take mid in terms of vision. If he goes south, he can't cross the tracks anyway as he'll get visioned by me or the Skorpion. The best the AMX can do is hang out near mid, stay behind the trains for cover, and hope his arty and Patton play well to draw it out.

@@taugrim But staying on hill allows u to spot middle pretty well (380 base vr not much, but can be enough with good crew), you also have bush cower for first shot advantage. You would not be able to cross rails, if he stood correctly. Also from hill you can spot that left road, if u rotate to the other bushes. While on mid u risk getting shot by skorpion, bcs u don't know where he might be. And if enemy tries to cap, you *than* rotate to the middle, patton spots cap, you decap from mid, bcs ez side shots and from that point you can even win. PS. Im highlighting the hill position, bcs u haven't even mentioned about that in ur responses, so Im not sure if we are talking about same thing :) Just to clarify PPS. By "draw it out" u mean "drag it longer"? or to draw a battle?

May I have your feedback on this: I can't remember the last time* I got set on fire, so why does >everyone< carry a fire extinguisher??? *OK it was yesterday, but ignoring that, it is actually almost never... I've found carrying a small and large repair kit, plus first aid, way more applicable. & Subbed, the points you made were useful, thanks.

Getting set on fire when you have no Fire Extinguisher and no crew trained for fire fighting skill is utterly crippling. Not only do you take massive damage, but you tend to lose multiple modules to boot. I use an Auto Fire Extinguisher whenever possible as it pays for itself with its auto-activation. In the French wheeled vehicles the view range is low that I find running food a necessity. Given that they have very low dispersion, what I'm doing is taking firefighting on the Gunner and Driver instead of Snap Shot and Smooth Ride.

Taugrim - thanks for the reply. I get that it essentially destroys the tank, but in game I’m routinely getting tracked, and that is either giving everyone a free aimed second shot at my lower plate or they retrack me, so I’m dead anyway. That second repair kit has saved my tank way more often than a fire extinguisher ever did, because people don’t seem to expect it and being set on fire almost never happens anyway. I’ve never picked firefighting, always gone for repair as a crew skill. Plus I’m sitting on 25 million silver anyway so occasionally burning 20K on a large toolkit is nothing. I wonder if anyone has any stats on this? I always go for an engine shot after tracking someone, but I very rarely get a fire. I don’t get why my experiences differ from the accepted wisdom?

If you find that you are getting chain-tracked in a wheeled vehicle, you are over-exposing yourself to fire. You can keep driving like that, but you're basically relying on enemies not hitting you, and I think that's not a smart strategy. I was set on fire twice in 9 battles last night in my Lynx 6x6. It happens.

@@taugrim - Ah I worded that badly, I didn't mean routinely, I was just thinking of the experiences where repairs were needed and relevant to the point. I have no wheeled vehicles, but I'd imagine that running away would expose the engine more. That was a great point btw, to always run away from a basic trading engagement, even if they are a lessor tier, to later outplay them. I think I'll have to try an auto extinguisher on one tank and count its usage, I'm convinced it's negligible.

I don't understand why people are still butthurt about premium consumables... They are accessible to anyone.. I mean it's not like the old days where you had to fork out gold to get the edge.. If they would simply educate themselves and admit they fucked up instead of being toxic and blaming the world for their mistakes then this whole game would be a lot more enjoyable. I'm not sure what the default keybinding is, but for me I have it bound to "X". It's the same keybind for switching modes in the tiers 8-10 Swedish TDs, if that helps.

I would recommend spending some times in each of the tier 6-9 wheeled vehicles. There's a meaningful learning curve and if you Free XP to skip some of them, you'll miss out on the experience. Plus, you can get a firsthand read on whether you enjoy the playstyle or not.

I think that's a good plan. The ELC AMX is nowhere near as fun to drive as it used to be, and the pen and DPM on the big gun were both nerfed significantly. That said, with the revised MM for lights that was release in 0.9.18, IMO the ELC AMX is still functional. I played 25 battles @ 60% WR with the ELC AMX to save up the XP needed to unlock the AMD 178B.

you seem to think dis/acc and a randomly generated number roll isnt working, people say it's op because even when you do hit them it doesnt do any dmg most of the time its not the fact it's gun does all this dmg, or that it's hard to hit, or that its to fast, it's all of those things, which makes it broken

The thing is that everyone are just yoloing around with their wheeled tanks in the higher tiers.... This is a valuable strat in tier 6 and in some cases in tier 7 but with the higher tiers everyone Plays the same way and dies in the first 30 secs of the battle instead of doing the first spot then falling back and trying to search for oportunities and trying to flank

Most of the time I see an opportunity to yolo quite safely for spots and see the enemy movement and bump into a rock or something else accidentally at the end of the no hit run and get obliterated immediately

Fun plays are not smart plays. I love a good brawl, and I will go in even if I know I will not come out of it. It beats waiting for the team to get an opening. But the WR and stats take a huge hit, because of it. When playing for stats I get purple stats, but after 2-3 days I'm so tired, and not enjoying those games.

As you noticed in 1 of the previous vids, unless you use purple/bond equipment you won't brake 400m VR in tier 8 wheelies. Against tier 8s you can still outspot most of them but low profile tier 10s will always have an advantage in vision game (as long as crewed and equipped properly). Abusing mobility to dodge shots just doesn't work, Ebr 105 is the only one suitable to give it a shot due to speed combined with maneuverability but it's still relying on luck. One thing I like about the cars is that drive byes are back and better than ever (ebr 75). P. S. Your commentary seems kind of chaotic in this one, for some reason.

Please, claiming that hitting a car at 80-100 km/h is just an aiming issue is ridiculous. You missed several shots on slower targets in this match alone. And you have for sure no bad aiming skills. Fact is: fast moving, agile targets are harder to hit. And the french cars are now the fastest vehicles we have in game.

Depends on the situation bro. HE is only for shooting very lightly armoured targets that you can penetrate. AP is the way to go 90% of the time

Agreed. Better 240 consistent damage on most targets than a hope for 320 on a squishy one. Although I do try to fire HE against paper TDs and paper LTs.

This is the first wheeled vehicle that is below 50% for me. It's much more frail than the ebr Hotchkiss and the speed on this is too addictive. I need to be much more careful with it

I'll probably fall into the same trap. Only halfway to the lynx but I had to counter that going from the AMD to the Hotchkiss already, cost me alot of winrate before I got a grip on that. With 200 battles each I got 53% on AMD and 52% on Hotchkiss. Hope I can get lynx over 50% lol

@@vocassen don't forget Hotchkiss has 40mm of armour so you can bounce when you face someone. It's also much heavier than lynx. Two things to remember in wheeled vehicles, I can get hit and I can still use that speed late game. Oh and don't let the team pressure you into bad pushes to spot

@@FlaviaPitariu Just looked up tanks.gg/compare/ebr-hotch?t=lynx-6x6, didn't realize lynx had that worse armor. Mobility values are hopefully wrong for the lynx, top is 80 not 58 right? Anyway yes you're right, wasn't always the team but myself though (probs bc of all the videos where yolo-scouting does work out). Seems like the Lynx is quite the change again from hotchkiss that comes even closer to the final intended playstyle of the wheeled. I'll probably have a real hard time, it's going to be my first VIII lol

No, just a combination of not having clear shots (tanks are in bushes and I can't see the terrain), shots that could have been aimed better, and I think I got unlucky with a couple shots in Murovanka.
