Having an opportunity to give Leon a ride home from Jax beach one night in the mid 90’s was an amazing ride .. We were at a bar / pub Ronnie & Johnny’s sister owned called Freebird . His house is beautiful with an eagle 🦅 on the gate that surrounds the home in Fruit Cove . I was a teenager at that time so I couldn’t grasp the full concept of just who I had in my 84 Monty Carlo . As I go to work each day I pass the road Allen Colleens totaled his Corvette on , not 2 miles from my home . I’m not claiming to have known them & they wouldn’t know me but like many fans they inspired and left us with countless memories as our tape decks played over and over . Rest In Peace Fellas …🦅🇺🇸🦅

Billy was 57 when he passed. And yet, he outlived Leon who was 49, Allen who was 37 and Ronnie who was 29. Bob Burns made it to 64 before losing his life in a car accident (off a road I drive often in Ga) and of course, now Gary who lived to be 71. Only Artimus is still around. The irony is . . .Gary cheated death twice having survived that "oak tree" in a car wreck and the fatal plane crash of '77. I miss them all.

Ronnie is all by himself with the pond on front of him.

As you went through the gate to the left under a large tree were 3 graves, Ronnie in the middle (large above ground tomb) and Cassie Gaines on one side and Steve Gaines on the other side. There was also a nice marble bench to sit on, I had a polaroid picture of it but I gave it to my girlfriend that was in the motel room and myself with Ronnie in 1974, Dothan, Alabama.
