Yeah just watch the documentaries that describe them practicing countless hours in the "Hell House" if people don't realize that Artimus Pyle their drummer like the only last member that was from their old days was killing it here on the drums through this whole performance, who barely survived the crash along with Rossington who died recently.

At 2:17 look at Collins and Rossington they reach up and pull their hair back with PERFECT synchronized gestures- you’d think it was choreographed. It would still be impossible to make so perfect- it gave me a chill and I watched it three times- And two days later , I ‘coincidentally ‘ find out they were both badly hurt in separate car crashes the same weekend! Facts . Check it out- these guys are psychic with each other from so much playing together, and just those two pieces of evidence here is all I need- it just proves how this band was so great - great songwriting and just killer guitar- and here’s a moment that’s mind blowing if you’re into that kind of thing. peace

That is correct sir. They were one of the opening acts for The Rolling Stones who were the headliners. All acts had strict orders not to go on the front part of the stage which stretched out into the audience and was shaped like a tongue. That was Stones territory only. Ronnie VanZant said fuck that and led his guitar players down the tongue as far as their guitar cords would reach. The crowd loved it and Skynyrd. Mick Jagger threw a hissy fit.

Stark contrast with Skynyrd's "God and guns" mantra of today. Is this Knebworth footage over One More From the Road?

+Dale G. You aint kiddin. This group went from left wing to right wing within a generation.I remind people of this every chance I get.

+Dale G. The current lineup is definitely much less nuanced. I have a Knebworth bootleg and this sounds like the same cheering intro. On my copy of One More From The Road, the Saturday Night Special track gets right to the song.

Pretty sure they were right wing then. This song is only about a saturday night special, a small caliber HAND GUN,. Hand guns were usually mentioned in this fashion especially in the south, a reference to them being used on Saturday nights for robberies or killings of course. I am pretty sure Ronnie and the boys hunted and owned rifles and most likely hand guns. But a lot of that generation used to mention small caliber hand guns as being good for nothing but killing people, because you wouldn't really go hunting with one. Please don't infer something that you know not to be true. Nowhere did he say we need to take all of the weapons, rifles, and guns of the world and throw them to the bottom of the sea!!!

The gun control debate has nothing to do with hunting rifles.

I grew up with this great band and Ronnie Van Zants great song lyrics, "This gun problem" was one that touched him and it is a negative "gun" song "They ain't no good" I never had the need for a gun and don't like all the heartbreak they give us here in the USA. Why don't we dump them to the bottom of the sea!! RVZ had balls to say whatever he thought was right. Gimme 3 steps was another anti gun song, He was a country boy so he knew guns are used for hunting and Saturday night specials were used for killing... Now we have military Semi automatic assault rifles on our streets, It's crazy, insane.

All things manly People always have to bring in Liberal vs. Conservative. Stop making everything a dichotomy. The world is far more complex than left vs. right.

All things manly If liberals and conservatives are all there are in the world, nothing else, what a sad, sad planet we live on.

Kevin Schuster I couldn't agree more, I loved RVZ and if I could wave a magic wand , and "every gun" was at the bottom of the sea,the world would be a better place, but I'm also a realist and know that isn't happening any time soon...:) But there isn't any reason Joe Idiot can buy a 30 shot semi automatic rifle either. There is no place for that kind of gun in the hands of common folks.

It's nice to hear it from someone else and that "common sense" is still alive...:)

All things manly > _Seems the rest of the band didn't agree with van Zant Because now they sing pro gun._ Facepalm. Seems like you don't know that the current cover band doing its 30-year tribute concert that just happens go by the name Lynyrd Skynyrd includes one original member and had periodically some leftover non-founding members. What they say or do now is completely a moot point when talking about the original five albums.

If you called Ronnie van zant a left wing, he would have knocked your teeth out

@ Jim Stone " Left wing vs right wing " ? Dem vs Republican " ?They ALL, including the Allman Bros, put their support behind Jimmy Carter and played the Gator Bowl at his fundraiser. Today ? I think would be the total reverse. That's how much things have changed since the 70s
