Ed King is simply amazing here.

Ed was the best guitarist the band ever had. He was a true musician , not just a rocker

Ed King was clearly the most original guitar player in L.S. In fact to the extent that Al Kooper, who produced the original studio version, thought he played the solos in the wrong key! LOL In fact playing them in the key of G instead of D is exactly what makes them so great! I mean, he saw both solos in a dream ... Believe it or not!

The song never sounded the same after Ed left. So glad he came back for this tour

Hearing Johnny shouting out California is mind blowing. Modern CA would never get this hyped to hear a band like this!

I just got the LP for this tour....so damn sweet is to hear this on the original record and with a smoke in my hand....

fully agree, they tried improvising Ed Kings guitar work but this is how it should be played. At the time i heard they were refoming i was dismayed, but when you get the chance to see Ed do his stuff it makes it worthwhile for this song alone.

, Its one of the hardest guitar solo's to play properly . Super trickey to copy . Ed was the best guitarist the band ever had. He was a true musician , not just a rocker

It's good to see Ed playing the song that he co-wrote the lyrics & music for. I saw them in the summer of 88 in Columbia, S.C. and I wondered who the fat guy in the overalls was. I looked on the back of the Tribute CD and it said Ed King. I still didn't know who he was until recently when I read the liner notes for the Original Muscle Shoals Album.

When you have a group of players who grew up together from high school and some of them die in a plane crash its a hard set of shoes to fill. I think it was a great idea for them to carry on, I feel Ronnie, Steve and Cassie would want it that way. Lots of Southern rock bands played life a bit faster than the rest and we don't have them around anymore. Now that it;s 2014 I still like the version of LS that's touring because its keeping southern rock alive and they do a great version of LS as well as anyone. Other southern rock bands are still out there and they have zero original members and play as well, some better than others but, I enjoy the fact that the southern rockers are still playing live and on tour like this ! Long live the memories of Ronnie, Steve, Cassie, Danny Joe Brown, Hughie T, Leon, Duane and many others who held the southern rock banner high!

Hrd this in the Tribute Tour album, but they had Donnie Van Zant, Charlie Daniels, Steve Morse, and a couple of others joining in on the singing and playing of this one. Wish there was a video posted her of that one...:)

Ed's guitar in this, a Pensa-Suhr, that was a new brand name in the late 1980's. Later became just Pensa. ...Stunner about those Peavey Mace amps re-built for that tour, the preamp is TRANSISTOR, power amp section is tubes. Basically a distortion box with EQ.
@OtterNoises2710 жыл бұрын
Do you mean Suhr? Because they still exist. Guthrie Govan plays Suhr guitars.
@OtterNoises2710 жыл бұрын
I just googled Pensa. I guess they both exist. But I feel Suhr is a more recognizable brand.

+AciDXRaiN27 it was originally Rudy pensa and john suhr. They split in the 90s. This pensa is famous because mark knopfler uses it

Would never give this song a thumbs down! but some of the lyrics do bother me. I campaigned for McGovern and was attacked by 4 southern Republicans due to my political views. Hey, I'm 200 pound southern while male at 6'1", and I can fight like hell, but with four guys kicking the shit out of you. . . . Well, let me make this clear, Watergate does bother me b/c the break-in was for the purpose of election cheating, and my conscience does not bother me one bit. How about the attackers' conscience?

Ed King is awesome. Ronnie still can't be replaced and I miss Allen and Steve. They were the best. I never cared for Gary Rossington just because he's a jerk. He tries to take over the band and he kicked the original drummer out of the band. Honestly he can't touch Allen, Steve, Or Ed when it comes to playing the guitar. Also who was the guitarist that came in at the end?
