Scru & No life shaq are literally the ppl who hv made their channel out of circlejerks of eminem stans. & He's hypocritical too. Where do u think these stans get this "saving hip hop" or "death to mumble rap" attitude come from? It comes from directly Eminem himself.. When he tries to diss lil lump,lil yachty as easy target as his ego got shattered cuz his last sjw album disses got flopped. He knows his stans r dumb enough to eat shit in form of a any disstrack since in their unicorn world Eminem can never be wrong or beaten. If that illusion comes off they wudnt be stans of eminem at this age when he's releasing terrible music compared to his classic. He's always said things that were shocking or unexpected. Now he's just repeating the most tired uncontroversial stances that everyone has heard before. Ooh wow you don't like mumble rap. REAL brave. Ooh wow you don't like Trump. REAL brave. Make 7 songs about both please. Kendrick Lamar is just as lyrical as Em inem so why is Eminem not being praised? Because Eminem is culturally inapt his shtick died in 2003. People ARE paying attention to lyrics none of these “mumble” rappers have staying power. Eminem is just a fossil who refuses to to accept the world has changed. Everyone has taken his shock factor and improved upon it. He’s tamed compared to rappers now. He changed the game when he first came but now the game has left him. It’s time Eminem realize that.

I think the big issue is that all these lyrical miracle rappers think they have amazing pen game, but they actually don't, and so their egos get really inflated because they think they are the best thing to happen to Hip Hop simply because their song writing is slightly more complex than some trap rap that's meant to sit in the background in your Spotify playlist. Rappers with actual great pen game like Andre 3000, El-P Aesop Rock, Danny Brown, and many more don't get all full of themselves because they think they write good.

I feel like fans always have a negative misunderstanding of each side of the rap game. Younger fans in the trap era will equate “old school” with “lyrical miracle” types and old fans in the boom bap era equate all the new school rap to “mumble and emo” rap. Nobody seems to find a middle ground or even tries to look for it. Their opinion is their opinion and that’s final. It’s like substances in songs is treated in a negative way and something that’s new and bangs is treated negatively. It’s all hip hop. It’s all about growth and new sounds. Old can sound new and new can sound old.

Its funny how a lot of the “lyrical miracle” guys arent even that lyrical. A lot of rappers use a fast flow to hide average bars. Honestly, the most lyrical rappers dont rap fast because they want the listener to hear the bars. Jadakiss, Cassidy, Fabolous, Black Thought, Pusha T, Nas and other rappers like that dont usually have a fast tempo.

Thank God Scru said "people think Rap God is Eminem" it's not... That's what I've been saying for years, especially when I see people refer to Em as a "fast rapper" ... I look at him as a well rounded emcee, not a fast rapper. I kind of forget he does some fast music because that's not what stands out about him to me first. The young people that idolize Eminem specifically for being a "fast rapper" are a part of the reason others don't think his fans word on the rap culture hold any conviction.

I feel like there's another argument toward these "lyrical miracle" types. Being from the west coast, I can say a large portion of our Hip-Hop here isn't always the most lyrical stuff either. In fact, Dr.Dre's "The Chronic" is one of the most ground-breaking records in Hip-Hop with one of the more run-of-the-mill lyrical elements in a Hip-Hop release for it's time. However, what makes it a classic record is the instrumentals and the charisma on display. There's a lot more to Hip-Hop than the rapper. Producers are a large portion of the musical element, and they're getting more attention nowadays. The lyrical content was more taboo in the 90's, and now people can give Hip-Hop production the attention it deserves. There was also a time where other art-forms were considered part of mainstream Hip-Hop too, such as break-dancers and graffiti artists (they still are Hip-Hop, but not as paid attention to). And I've gotta say, if you feel entitled enough to tell someone that they aren't good enough or a part of the Hip-Hop culture just because you don't like their stuff, that's one of the most non-Hip-Hop things you can do. If the black men and women who made Hip-Hop what it was in the 70's and 80's abided by what everyone else was doing, you wouldn't have Hip-Hop.
@mashedwizard
@mashedwizard 4 жыл бұрын
True dat! That's facts bro. And to me most of these "lyrical miracle" rappers who claim to be saving hip hop often attack these "mumble rappers" (a term that's so pejorative that there the definition of a mumble rapper has gone beyond than just a rapper who is rapping incoherently) for "disrespecting" the culture because they deviate from traditional hip hop, not knowing that this gatekeeping Us vs. Them mentality is even way worse to what they're doing. Mumble rap and lyrical rap can exist in the same sphere and as long that people can get positivity of it, to me that's great. That's one of the many things I love about hip hop. The groundbreaking things that rap today are set will be considered tradition in the next 20 years of the genre. It's something I wish that these lyrical miracle rappers understood than just spitting how hip hop is dead and isn't what it used to be anymore and needs "saving".

The34zyD C. "Large portion of (WEST COAST) Hip-Hop isn't always the most lyrical stuff." Bahahahahaha. BS!!!!!! Kam was "lyrical." Pac was "lyrical." Cube was "lyrical." Coolio was "lyrical." Especially on "It Takes A Thief" album. Ice T was "lyrical." Breeze was "lyrical." Their ish was poetic. Not that word salad bs that socalled "lyrical" mfs recite to try to impress with words that are not even in their spoken vocabulary. Those mfs cant even speak English. You call that bs "lyrical"???? BTW, The lyrics in The Chronic were straightforward. NOT "run-of-the-mill." Dont call it that bs because they are not rhyming with every part of speech, using multiple syllabic rhymes, or using a lot of similes/punchlines/metaphors, etc., in their ish. That nonsensical bs impresses you???? SMMFH! Last but not least, a lot of these modern producers are lackluster af. Their music consists of 808s with elementary rhythms and melodies. Most of that ish sounds identical. Which is why a lot of those bihs use bs tags so mfs can know who did what. Edit your bs again. Maybe you will get more likes.

@@dianevrules "A large portion of our hip-hop isn't the most lyrical", I didn't say all of it. I agree that the artists you listed are examples of lyrical artists from the west coast. While you're at it, you forgot to mention Kendrick Lamar, who's one of the best rappers to ever do it. Chill homie. And number 2, when you make large posts, you often have to edit for clarity. I hope you'd understand why clarity is important, because it's hard enough to avoid people making premature comments about your position even when you're writing it as well as you can. You're a pretty good example of that. As for the point about producers sounding the same, I think you know that's not true. Sure, you get trap producers who make generic beats to use when they're not sure what else to write. But does ID sound like Tyler the Creator? Does JPEGMAFIA's production sound like Earl Sweatshirt's? There are some unique producers out there in the modern hip-hop landscape, and you'd just be bigoted to completely discount them. The Chronic is straight-forward lyrically, and the lyrics are not really anything different than what you'd hear in a record from one of their contemporaries (A.K.A. run-of-the-mill). This isn't a point against it, because you don't need to be saying anything different to mean what you say in Hip-Hop. They struggled in the streets. They've dealt with police brutality. They even have some captivating cuts lyrically on there like "Lil' Ghetto Boy", which is one of my favorite tracks off the album. However, I only point out it's a bit run-of-the-mill at the time because - is this not a concept Ice Cube, Rakim, Slick Rick, Public Enemy or various other artists before them made in records? Dr.Dre and Snoop were inspired by artists before them just like Ice Cube was influenced by Chuck D, Rakim and Ice T. There's nothing wrong with that, and I don't quite understand why you're so pissed off about that. Finally, "Their ish was poetic. Not that word salad bs that socalled "lyrical" mfs recite to try to impress with words that are not even in their spoken vocabulary. Those mfs cant even speak English. You call that bs "lyrical"????" You didn't specify a motherfucker you're referring to. Also, what do you mean "try to impress with words that are not even in their spoken vocabulary"? Obviously it's in their spoken vocabulary because they spoke the word. It's like you read another comment and put your response to it on mine. Perhaps you might get some mileage from editing your own comments? Anyway, I had fun. Keep trolling the dregs of KZfaq comments.

Oh hey this dude is from my home state. Embarrassing story time: My friends used their connection of a mutual friend of Scru’s to get our really shitty punk band to open for him at Sokol Underground in like 2012 or 13. At the show, our singer got a call about 30 minute before we went on that his gf was pregnant. In that half hour, he disappeared and proceeded to get blackout drunk in record time. He still hadn’t shown up by the time we went on, so we had to start without him. He showed up about 4 songs into our set, sang absolutely nonsense for 3 songs, and then left the stage with 3 songs still to go. Afterwards, we found him crying backstage, going on about how he was worried the kid was going to affect him being able to tour with the band (he was immediately kicked out lol). I was so embarrassed, I begged my girlfriend to give me a ride home rather than wait for the rest of the band to leave at the end of the night. So needless to say, I did not get to see Scru Face Jean

I don't get why people in these comments see the phrase "lyrical miracle" and start defending _any_ kind of rap that's fast, or just good. _lyrical miracle_ doesn't mean "paying mind to lyrics", it's about the people who spit nothing in big words with a rhyme scheme straight out of a rhyme generator. Who think they're hot shit because they can speed up their voice to create faux internal rhyme schemes, and somehow think they're hip hop's saviors. It's called "lyrical miracle" because these absolute geniuses use that same rhyming pair in their songs often to praise themselves, sometimes in more than one song. So I don't get how when you read the title you feel the need to defend a rapper like "wait hold on now Denzel Curry is pretty good." They don't fit the paradigm, and it feeds into the false dichotomy made by lyrical miracle types that there's only two camps of rap, lyrical miracle or "mumble/trash." There's infinitely more to the music than complainjng about other music in the same cadence and lack of style. Listen to more of it and it will seem silly to you to maintain these small niche categories to all of hip hop.

There are dozens of "Metalhead reacts to Hip-Hop" channels, but barely any will ever make it past 90's Hip-hop or Eminem reactions. I always grouped Scru with the "death to mumble rap" kinda youtube rappers. I'm glad you got him to clear it up. I feel like it's hard, especially as a fan of Joyner and Eminem, to be a fan of lyrical rappers who have solidified their skillset as not only fast, lyrical rappers, but as artisis and musicians as a whole. It's unfortunate since Joyner gets clumped in with the NFs and Logic's of the world. I respect all of these artists but I'n not really a fan of either. Also, I feel like the "youtube rapper" title only gets removed from artists who make it somewhat mainstream like Hopsin. He pretty much started with KZfaq and has been 100% independent since at least like 2009ish I think and Joyner directs all of his own videos and runs his youtube channel himself. I'm glad they don't have that title while people like Quadeca and Moxas, who have a solid fanbase yet haven't really made it successfully yet, still do. I think lyrical rappers, sorry, GOOD lyrical rappers have a slow, but steady climb to the top but once they're on top, they're above everything else. Eminem has been grinding since 1988 and it took about 11 years for him to even get recognized let alone release successful music but when he did, he was unstoppable.

@Dabahin 1 yeah I believe all artistic movements have purpose even if that purpose is only truly fleshed out after their time. I mean OG classical masterpieces will go through several folk motifs and kind of distill them and use them as a single movement in a larger piece, similarly noise music is used like that now by hip-hop, and prog and math rock. I've really struggled to find any mumble rappers I enjoy though. "Lyrical Miracle" rappers is such a.... wide and almost bogus terminology that it's harder to define. I love very wordy rap, most of these youtube rappers though are trash, in my opinion. Mac Lethal had some good shit back in the day but now it's fairly cringey, I just dove in to all of the rappers this dudes talkin about today, including Scru Face himself, and occasionally theres a song or verse I like but most of it is very very forgettable, and feels like it's rehashing things that have already been done and done better.

Calum Foster-Bayliss Lyrical Miracle rap just refers to rappers that only rhyme a lot (maybe rap fast too) but don’t actually say much if it all. But LYRICAL rap tends to have at least more heart and meaning than lyrical miracle rap.

@@raymond9180 for sure. I know what it means but it's very subjective. You should always judge music based on whether it succeeds in what it’s trying to do. If a rapper isn’t trying to be lyrical, it’s pointless to criticize them for not being lyrical. Not to say you can’t criticize artists that make mainstream trap style music, because that styles can be done poorly. In the same way, rappers trying to be lyrical can be criticized for having weak lyrics, but if the artist isn’t trying to make turn up music it is not a valid criticism to say that their music isn’t hype. It’s all about intent. Any style of rap can be done well or be done poorly. Saying Lil Pump is garbage because he doesn’t have bars is the same as saying an office desk is terrible because you can’t cook soup with it.

Oof I’m glad to hear you paying respect to Mos Def & Black Star. I was just re-listening to one of my favorite hip-hop albums from growing up, Black On Both Sides, & the Mos Dub mixtape (Johnny Too Beef is an amazing track), and god... I was just overwhelmed by how well it holds up. Such killer lyricism, flow, beats- and hey, I like fast rapping as much as anyone- Dead Prez, Busta Rhymes when he goes ham on a verse, Tonedeff, JID, Earthgang- you name it... But Mos Def and Black Star are such a no frills, no gimmicks return to just the hip-hip artform & aesthetic in its purest form. I got to see Mos years ago (wow almost a decade now), and I had actually never heard of the opener- Jay Electronica- so that was a huge surprise, and this was back in the What The F*** Is A Jay Electronica/Eternal Sunshine days when he was on fire... Still one of the most amazing shows of my life. I don’t buy the whole “Man, music/hip-hop is garbage these days” narrative- there’s tons of great music out there- but the Golden Era hip-hop I grew up on, whether it’s A Tribe Called Quest or the Wu Tang Clan or The Fugees or Black Sheep or Souls of Mischief it Das EFX, all the way up through Del Tha Funkee Homosapien... That stuff will always hold an unbelievably special place in my heart. Nothing else quite like it.

I remember Eminem said something that I really think cursed the average white rappers mindset in terms especially to the spiritual lyrical shit. He said on the lines of "You cant find a rhyme for orange, but I immediately think of door hinge". And this comes to my mind especially as a warning to spiritual lyricals. Just cause two words rhyme, DOES NOT, mean they work together in a sentence. For example. Read this in Eminems voice I GOT THE ORANGE STUCK IN THE DOOR HINGE WITH FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE MAKING PORNOS IN THE BASEMENT Its literally saying nothing X'D
