In this third part of his interview, Yogesh ji tells us about the working style of Burman Dada, his refusal to work with those directors who were lacking in the art of good direction, and how he would refuse films even though the money offered to him was many times more than his regular charges.
The interview also brings out Dada's sense of punctuality when a guest turns up much later than his time, Dada's unique style of composing a song, and his simple childlike nature.

What an honest man, he never tried to snatch the credit of the composer. When Motiji asked him how did he do the 'kamaal', he honestly replied, it ws the composer's kamaal. What simplicity !

Interesting insight into the working style of great Dada Burman. I remember reading an interview in early seventies, wherein Rajendra Kumar had said that Talaash remains one of the biggest ever hits of his life as well as THE biggest hit for his brother in law, OP Ralhan. Also, that Ralhan minted equal amount of money from the films' sales as he did from the sale of it's music. Just like Aradhana and Abhiman the music sale paralleled the entire film release collection. This was the power of S D Burman music. He breathed music and lived for his music only, not caring for money, awards or any such thing. Real genius.

Sushil Jain ji, Aapko ko achcha laga humein khushi hui. Shukriya. Badi sooni hai Dada ka last compose kiya hua gana hai. Baaki release kiye hue aur bhi hain. Yeh jaankaari humein Dada ke last arrangee Bablu Chakravorti, Dada ke last arranger ne di. Unhonein yeh bhi bataaya ki jab Kishore aaye rehearsal karne to sikhaate waqt Dada ke aawaaz mein itna dard tha ki Kishore ro pade aur kehne lage ki "Main ab is ko recording karne ke liye taiyyar nahin. Mujhe kuchh waqt dejiye. Idhar Kishore gaye udhar Dada ko attack aaya. Yeh baat Bablu ji ke interviews mein hain. Dekh leejiye ga.

Prem Kumar ji, Yes, it gives a lot of information on Burman Dada. In this part alone Dada decided not to work for the producer who comes with loads of money, O.P. Ralhan, Basu Chatterji, and even Dev Anand. Dada loved his songs and was choosy who to work with.

Nishikant Mane, Thank you so much for encouraging words. I am single-handedly doing all this to leave a legacy for our younger generations to know our cultural heritage. Internet is full of incorrect information, while these people formed the core team of our Golden Period of Hindi films from 1950s till mid 1970s. By that time western music had become part of our film music, which, as per my interview with our classical musician Padma Vibhusahn Ram Narayan was rejected in western countries. (See my interview with Ram Narayan ji). I have over 90 uploads on KZfaq so far. Thanks .

Agnibha Roy ji, I had asked Yogesh ji even after the interview, but he couldn't remember it. There are other songs too which RD has used, it was for him, 'Baap ka maal'. :)

@@lalwanimoti शर्म आनी चाहिए ऐसी औलाद को अपने आप पर, जो अपने मां-बाप को उम्र के ऐसे पड़ाव पर अकेला छोड़ जाते हैं। ऐसी औलाद होने से न होना अच्छा है। मैं अपने आप को बहुत खुशकिस्मत समझता अगर मुझे योगेश जी जैसे दादाजी मिलते। कितनी कहानियां, कितने किस्से, जीवन के कितने अनुभव उनसे सुनने-सीखने को मिलते। उनके नाती - पोते कितना कुछ सीख सकते थे। मगर उनकी किस्मत में शायद ये अनमोल खज़ाना नहीं था। मन बहुत दुखी होता है..

Himanshu Tripathi Why should I call him Rafi Sahab. I grew up listening to his songs in late 1940s, 1950s and 1960s when he was known as Rafi.

I know it well...but we should pay some respect while addressing legends even they are in the same age group....if you can call Kishore kumar as Kishore Da, why not Rafi Sahab?

Himanshu Tripathi But I I don't call him Kishore da. Now let us both do some creative work. I hope you liked the interview. There are over 100 of them. Enjoy the priceless research that I am doing for younger generations so that they know more about our legends.
