My first competition on my new 2023 Kawasaki KLX300SM. So excited to be on this bike. I spent months modifying it and adjusting it and it is feeling really damn good. Today was a day for testing and gathering information on how to go faster on this bike; leaning, braking, self steering and suspension adjustments. There is still much work to be done.
I came in first place with a score of 1:12.97. James Bush was less than a second behind me at 1:13.65. I'm looking forward to learning and growing on my new Supermoto nicknamed "Super-Mantis". Fun years ahead :)

Awesome! I recently started moto gymkhana on wr250x and your videos helped me a ton! Thank you especially for introducing me to self steering and the Japanese riding style that I also find very compatible.

@@LexcoMotoGymkhanaWhat are your thoughts on the Recluse Clutch? I heard most sumo riders have them in Japan. Is it mainly to eliminate engine braking?
@LexcoMotoGymkhana

You wouldn't need a Recluse Clutch to soften or eliminate engine braking; you could do that with idle rate adjustments. My guess is that they use it to allow for a clutch-less style of riding. Supermotos are not smooth enough down low in the rev range (as opposed to a road bike) so if you want to go clutch-less, you would need a Recluse Clutch. The other option would be to do what I do and learn to ride WITH clutch. I find that to be a better option if your goal is to be a more well rounded rider. Because I've learned clutch style AND clutch-less style, It gives me the ability to jump on any motorcycle and ride Moto Gymkhana. But if you don't really care about refining your technique and you just want the easiest bike to ride so you can just focus on speed, than a Recluse Clutch would come in handy. Thanks for the question :)

@@LexcoMotoGymkhana Good to know! I've been looking for alternatives to raising the idle too much since I want my techniques to be applicable for street riding. Clutch style seems like the way to go! 😁

Lovely! Looks like it was not just the bike that leveled up but the rider as well! You looked faster compared to your Ninja.

Riding this bike is pretty effortless during gymkhana. It fits me like a glove. I made mistakes when setting up The Ninja which slowed me down but I learned from those mistakes and improved my adjustments for this new bike. Thanks for watching :)

New bike😮 awesome riding mate!! What mods with the ninja were you unhappy with?

It wasn't mods necessarily; It was suspension adjustments that made the bike really sluggish in turns. Also, there was a feature on the throttle butterfly valve that I didn't learn about until after I got rid of the Ninja. The ECU was interfering with the throttle response and so I wasn't able to increase idle rate to where it should have been to make good power. All that was necessary was to remove one single tiny spring but alas...I found out about it too little too late. The same feature is on the new KLX but since I know about it now, I resolved the issue.

@@LexcoMotoGymkhana I'm interested in the throttle butterfly valve mod, hope you can include that in future videos (or maybe link to sources). I want to check if my Versys 650 have the same thing.

kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pb2glLSLqN7FoqM.html Here you go. This gentleman shows it briefly. You need to take a look at where the throttle cable turns the butterfly valve in the throttle body housing. On some Kawasaki bikes the ECU will mess with the closing of the throttle with a small shaft that connects to the butterfly valve via a small spring. You cannot disable the ECU or the movement of the small shaft but you can disconnect it's influence on the throttle butterfly valve by removing the small spring. This is a very nice feature on Kawasaki bikes for normal type riding (it gives deceleration a smooth, floaty feel) but for Moto Gymkhana, it will interfere with attempts to increase idle rate, which is what I was experiencing on the Ninja 300. I wanted to set the idle rate at about 3k rpm but whenever I tried going over 2.5km, the throttle would act erratically and so I could never set the idle rate where I wanted. Ironically, I do not raise idle rate on the new KLX; I keep it at stock idle but It was still nice to get rid of the feature to have a more direct feeling throttle. Hope this all make sense :)
