Damiano actually said this is based on a true story (the name is fictional though). In a recent interview he added that he shared the song with this person and it was a beautiful experience and was very appreciated so the girl is alive as much as we know. For the record, no-one in Rome calls the Verano cemetery “the castle”. I’m writing this because so many people mention this. This is no to say that the interpretation of the castle in the song as a cemetery is wrong- have no idea about that, it may be or may not be (why not an inside wall? Or the walls of an asylum?). But there’s no hidden reference to the Verano cemetery

Hey!! The Sanremo festival just started and Måneskin were guests! They performed this song live with the orchestra and let me tell you: IT WAS MINDBLOWING poor Damiano got emotional at the end. It was really powerful, you should def chack that performance out!!!

To me this one of the most emotional songs I have ever heard, especially once I understood the lyrics. As you noted Damiano sings with so much genuine emotion. Damiano has said he is very proud of this song, that is based on a true story, a tragedy. Damiano also has said that he strives to write songs that we can have a connection with. I believe he is so good at using symbolism and metaphors, that allows us to have our personal reaction, not just to Coraline, but also to similar experiences we may have in our own lives. Sheer genius!

che brava che sei a parlare italiano !! Ho sempre pensato che finisce con il suicidio, ma ultimamente Damiano ha detto che Coraline (che non sappiamo il vero nome) ha ascoltato la canzone che ovviamente gli è tanto piaciuta , mi ha reso molto felice, quindi non si è suicidata anche se il padre quello gli suggeriva. Verso l'inizio dice la canzone "ma un giorno lei ci riuscirà" è l'unico suggerimento che la canzone da che non finisce cosi male. Aggiungo.... la canzone ci colpisce molto, perchè come nel loro solito stile, parla in diversi livelli , il più evidente la storia di Coraline, ma poi narra la storia di tutti noi, ci possiamo ritrovare pur avendo altra esperienza, e quando dice Coraline non vuole mangiare, ha l'ansia , piange , vorrebbe sparire, parla anche dei problemi dei singoli componenti della banda, Damiano visse il non mangiare, Victoria l'ansia, thomas legato al pianto, e Ethan "vorrebbe sparire", per questo prende cosi tanta intensità , sono diverse storie che narra vissute direttamente. Questa canzone come altre è terribilmente geniale e poetica, per chi ci capisce, come le altre canzone sono molto spirituali.

The story of Coraline (made up name) is a real story, as Damiano said. The fruit of the lost womb is in reference to the abortion of the child conceived by the violence of the father to Coraline. The strong-walled castle is a cemetery. In Rome, the Verano cemetery ( it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cimitero_del_Verano ) is also known as "Il Castello". Damiano has not revealed to any who is in reality Coraline. Coraline is supposed to be a friend of him (and possibly of the whole band), who died from the consequences of abortion or perhaps suicide and buried in the Castle.

Coraline is a fancy name for a real person. Damiano doesn't want to talk about it. All we know is that she was a little girl he tried to help but the story doesn't have a happy ending.
