Mick Mars is definitely underrated. He's a master at work. He's come up with some of the most badass riffs in history hands down. The whole band was badass. But Mick Mars was the sound of Motley Crue.

I remember around 83-84 as a kid walking 20 miles or so to the Southglen Mall in Denver Colorado with my buddies to buy Ozzy Osbourne concert tickets and the opening act was some band called Motley Crue. We kept getting them mixed up with the band Molly Hatchet but the night of the show when the lights went out and they opened with Shout at the Devil my world was never the same again. Use to wake up to the music to this album during teens. Mid 1990's While my peers was listening to what was popular in mid 1990's. I was listening rock music 1980's and older. I say , F the 1990's. I started listening glam bands age 7 in 1988 . I did know what lyrics meaning back then, but the music felt good. Best thing in my childhood was this style of music. Only thing positive from it. While, Saturday Mornings Cartoons and playing my pets.

Mick got rude on TOP, but very very rude on Girls. The slide came out more and his gear got more refined. Kramer was turning out some of the best guitars of their time. I bought my first Baretta in 87 and put a Seymour Duncan TB 6 in it. Ran through a 100 w Marshall combo amp with Tubescreamer and a 7 band EQ and I was nailing Mick's tone. Still have that same gear to this day.

I read Nikki Sixx biography and he has a difficult painful childhood , even in his younger days as a teenager , he's funny as not even knowing how a Bass guitar looks like..Lol...but he's burning desire to be in a rock band paved the way for what he is now , I was surprised to learn that he's actually the one writing the lyrics of the songs, he was the creative genius that propelled the band to fame. What a life he's been through , he's a classic example of being a poor boy Frank to being a Golden boy.
@MattSmith-iq1ld

What Nikki says about the "GGG" lyrics is totally true. "Wild Side" has lyrics that would even impress Bob Dylan. To take the Lord's Prayer and adapt it to the street life of Los Angeles in the late 80's.....just absolute fucking genius. It is one of the greatest set of lyrics I have ever heard in a rock tune. "Dancing On Glass" just captures drug addiction to a T. There are so many classic lines in "Sumthin' For Nuthin," the ultimate song about being an underage gigolo! "Sumthin' For Nuthin," "Target Practice In the Dark, "Sumthin" For Nuthin," "Yeh, I'm A Crack Shot On the Mark." 'And I love My Work." It's just great

I love motley crue, I’m a big fan, seen them live etc. - they’re a great, funny rock band. I feel like Tommy Lee, Vince and Mick are in on the joke... but does anyone else get a bit freaked out by how seriously Nikki takes himself? Like... he should 100% take pride in the good time party-rock he wrote, but he should be proud of it for what it is... party rock. Sometimes he talks like he was writing Dark Side Of the Moon or something...
@UKSportsFan
@UKSportsFan 5 жыл бұрын
I've kind of noticed that myself. I think, because Nikki is basically the leader and voice of the band, being the founder and writer of most of the songs, that he is often asked the tough questions. Interviewers always ask him all the deep, serious questions and so he has tried to become a voice for modern day reason, rather than being a voice of the band at the time, which was a hard rocking, good-time party band.

This is interesting because if you've read and believe "The Dirt" they were pretty much stoned the entire time they made this album and in fact didn't remember a lot of it so I don't get where they make it sound like this was their big "comeback". This was also the album in which their manger wouldn't let them go tour Europe and the famous, "At least one of them will come back in a body bag" quote, not after Theatre Of Pain like the previous video made it seem.

Mick being in his 30's made him the wisest and most experienced. Think about it. Nikki was a shitty bass player. Mick had to carry the weight of the song. I love Nikki with all my heart and he has become a much better musician since the beginning. Listen to Too Fast. He was like Sid Vicious. Mick did an excellent job of filling in.

Yes Nikki was a horrible bass player but he became a great one later but if you listen to too fast for Love and then dr. Feelgood there's a major difference

Jon Villalobos Had it not had mick mars and tommy lee in it Motley crue would have never got off the ground.Micks excellent guitar riffs and tommys incredible beat keeping made the music what it was.Nikki was a great song writer and fair bass player and vince was a decent but not great vocalist who too often tried singing way out of his range.He didnt have a 7 octive range like the guys in steelheart or queensryche.

The thing with theatre of pain is that the record came to late... for its style, same ass KISS their creatures of the night... both records are not bad but they were released at the wrong time.

Am I missing something? Tommy says in this interview that he came up with the riff for girls girls girls. It's possible I guess as it's not really complicated

Theatre of Pain a “terrible terrible album”?! Really? I mean,a couple songs seem like fillers,but, there’s some cool sounding material there. Love the sound,too. Guitar especially. And that drum sound?! ...Awesome. Just my opinion,of course.

My bro asked for my opinion on his youngest, yet to be born sons name. I told him Mick. Mick(Bob), one of my top guitarists. He could use it as Mickey Mantle (he's a huge Yankee fan, since a wee child). He said he wanted Angus after ACDC, but didn't want for folks to call him Anus.

truth. It's the only Crue album without any filler. Not sure why Vince seems to prefer "classics" like 5 years dead over anything on Theater of Pain.
