Nikki was the writer, and the guy who came up with the image, album themes and all. Tommy Lee has always been a show by himself: rotating drum sets, swinging on Tarzan ropes above the crowd, playing piano and running to the drum set for those parts. Vince had that high range as a young man, and was charismatic as Hell. He always looked tan, because he is half Mexican, and had the platinum blonde hair - so he attracted busloads of gorgeous girls! Mick Mars gave them their own unique flavor. Had they gotten a 22 year-old Van Halen impersonator, or like a Warren DiMartini, they would not have been as much of a Hard Rock groove band. Mick bridged 80s Metal back to the 70s Hard Rock (aka Aerosmith, Rod Stewart & the Faces, AC/DC). Smokin' in the Boys Room and Girls were pretty hard but not Metal. Those songs made it fun to be a teenage guy with long hair in the late 80s, and I thank them for that. The early 90s, my college years were more Punk Rock because of Grunge. Nobody ever smiled. Everything was so frigin dark and serious. I got off the bus and went in the Army and music became sad and angry - no thanks. What a damned fun time to be young before the Godless 90s came in with no love or joy, just heroin and boo hoo "Jeremy spoken, booooooo hooooo". All the singers had chins that stuck out three feet, and they all killed themselves" Kurt Cobain, Layne Staley, Scott Weiland, Chester Benningfield and several others. It was a big, boo hoo hoo festival crybaby addicts

I can see it now! Tommy, Vince, and Frank...oops! I mean..."Nikki"...still there in the Garage, rehearsing as a threesome...all of 'em in their 60s, wondering if they're ever gonna go out, and become famous! No Mick=No Motley Crue!

@@tenbroeck1958Gotta agree with you, about the '90s. There definitely was a lot of gloomy music out there! Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam...and then, there were even heavier acts, like Nine Inch Nails, Pantera, Type O Negative, White Zombie, and many other "Bands", that, although they were serious about what they did, they almost never smiled...or lightened up...at least a little bit!

Mars has Ankalosing Spondikosis and Is absolutely incredible what he's be able to accomplish with such a debilitating disease, he recently said he this he probably has 7 years left to live, so he must feel his body telling him something, the world has been soo lucky he decided to pick up a guitar, as famous as he is, still way under rated in my book

When Mick Mars showed up to 'audition' for a spot in the group, Nikki & Tommy knew right away that Mick was the guitar player. No questions asked...that legend is all you need to know about Mick Mars. Truly one of the most underrated guitarists in the last 50 years. This guy was and STILL IS what made Motley Crüe, Motley Crüe.

The Dirt was ok, as you would expect kinda hyped but followed at least the rags and sht we heard all those years. But yeah. Mick wrote some of the best riffs of our era, even though it really only\ lasted 3-4 years for me and then thrash and all that sht became POP, I still crank the first two -3 albums to this day on occasion. Too Fast For love is undeniable imo and Live Wire Riff is one of the best ever from Zepplin to Suffocation. Fkin love it, never gets old.

When people mention Motley Crue to me I think "What a distinctive voice Vince has" and fall in love all over again with the band. I wouldn't go public and say that Mick is the only reason people like Motley Crue. Mick was the last person to join the band...why would anyone say that Mick created and built Motley Crue?? I love Mick...don't get me wrong...but Mick isn't the first thing that comes to my mind when asked why I love Motley Crue.

@@lauralibby-campbell2474 Vince was the last person to join the band. Mick came up with the name and he encouraged for Vince to join the band. Yes it is true that Vince was why I listened to MC in the first place because I heard Kickstart Live In Texas but also because of Mick's riffs such as Wildside among others that's very hard to be copied. Since when was Mick the last person to join?
@alexm5764
@alexm5764 Жыл бұрын
@@lauralibby-campbell2474 Okay Vince had a distinctive voice back in the 80s on the records. But have you ever heard him sing live? Even back in the 80s he sounded acceptable at best. Mick's great riffs and guitar tone is what gives the songs that cool punch. Mick seemed like the most normal person in that band as well, not goofing around with every girl and getting DUI's or overdosing on heroin. And he also has an awful spine disease yet he still carried that band imo.

I heard Nikki say once... Nick threw his ego in the backseat and just played from his heart! And I'm believe that sums him up! A lot of people through the years and said he's not that technical or he's not this enough or he's not that enough, but not everyone is malmsteen or Van Halen. Mick Mars is Mick Mars and I agree with most you guys that he made motley Crue sound!

I always worried about his health, the kind of pain he was enduring for us to hear him play. He’s just amazing, nothing but love and so much respect, Mick if you ever come by these comments, we all have nothing but love for you. I love Motley Crue, on your last show here, I was sitting in a spot where I got to high 5 all of you goodbye and you played home sweet home elevated in front of me, I mouthed goodbye, and I meant it. When we got to the car, my wife noticed I wasn't saying much and asked why. I just couldn't believe how good Mick Mars was. The rest of the band were great, too, but far out man, MM's guitar playing was just brilliant. Not being a fan of the USA metal / glam thing, I was just in awe of his sound, style and precision.
