Just because it's a thousand degrees in the midday Hanoi sun, it doesn't mean you can't enjoy a steaming bowl of wonton noodle soup (mỳ vằn thắn). There are so many different kinds of great Vietnamese noodles, but I had a jones for Hong Kong-style wonton noodles. Luckily, there is a place in Hanoi that does a great version.
The wonton noodle soup at Mỳ Vằn Thắn Đinh Liệt is full of noodles, pork wontons, fried wontons, liver, sliced pork, pork skin, chives and leafy veggies. The broth has a deep pork flavor, and it reminded me so much of the noodles I've had in Hong Kong. The only thing that would have made these noodles better is the vinegar every soup place in Hong Kong has on their tables. The mỳ vằn thắn here is 45,000 ₫ ($1.80 USD). Ridiculous!
