I think most comments are neglecting to realise - if you have the money to afford a NBC outfitted vehicle like this, you also have the money to fully outfit a bunker in similar fashion on remote property. this isn't so you can cruise around the countryside, this is to drive like a bat out of hell in a b line for your actual bunker in a one way trip. so what does the person who buys this care about a few hundred measly dollars in fuel, they probably have a garage full of super cars in their mansion anyways. the only part of the build I question is the air suspension - but there's probably some rubber spacers to keep it from fully bottoming out if there's pressure loss I'd guess.

I have to say the concept is pretty good. A vehicle you can take off road camping in case of a national emergency. However, there are issues with this rig. 1) The paint. Who would use glossy paint in a camouflage? That's like sending a visual beacon "Hey! Here we are!" 2) I will assume the side wings on the camper retract in somehow? If not you gonna be whacking about every phone pole and road sign from here to eternity. 3) What's with all the tubes and hoses hanging down? Some sort of gas mask system?? Anybody ever wear full chem gear and drive a vehicle???? 4) In the event of a "Bug Out", you'll need to pre-empt everybody else and get a head start before the roads get clogged. This big ol beast needs a lot of road. Yeah, can probably push a couple cars out of the way, but that's about it. 5) Will need a fuel station after you exit the city. These things only get about 10mpg max. Best to have some 55gal drums of fuel buried at locations along the route. Other than that, the concept is good if you have this rig waiting a hundred miles or so outside the city and regions.

the thing is geared for super heavy loads with a different engine and trans combo i'll bet you can get a lot more then that i'd put the CAT C-18 18.01-litre turbocharged and intercooled 4-stroke diesel variant of engine in that thing and mate it to a higher geared 13 or 18 speed eaton fuller so you can get some speed out of it stock it can only do 45 -55 mph if it could do 70-75 fuel mileage would be better cause with that big of an engine wind aint gonna effect you
@Slim_Slid4 жыл бұрын
@@MrAxlzero You won't get more speed because it's a 40,000 lbs truck that is 8×8.The HET's all use a CLT-754 Allison Automatic with a TC-496 Torque Converter,they all do,and it's a Five Speed.The older M1070's all used a DD-92 Detroit with 500 HP and 1,470 Torque,you could get them up to 550 HP and 1,996 Torque with some aftermarket Modifications.But after Detroit got purchased by Mercedes Benz,the Army uses C18 Caterpillars in them.The C18 in the HET is at 800 HP and 4,000 Torque.

Yes, if the SHTF this is more or less useless unless you have 60 acres of canola to press and make into biodiesel every 6 weeks.... Having said that... People go ape-shit when you pull into a campground in a 5-ton. You would definetly win the "My camper is cooler than yours." award. Hands down no competition.... Unless Will Smith showed up with his 2 story semi-truck rv. I wonder how difficult it was to mount that expando-van to that H.E.T. That must have been a cast iron bitch getting those winches off of there. I'd bet one of those winches weighs as much as that van body. Practicality wise: It's pointless. Cool factor: Off the charts.
@RomanMastino7 жыл бұрын
How many kilometers you go with your camper in one year? 5000-10000km? So if you need max 40 liters for 100km. It will be 4000 liters. If you go the same trip with lets say LandCruiser you will need 1200 liters. So for the truck you pay around 2800€ more. And be honest if you buy truck for 300-400 thousands euro. 2 or 3k in one year is nothing.
