With hours of research, I’ve come to realize the 16 Inch is the most logical choice with the M3 Max chip. The assistants at the Apple Store were very adamant about pitching the M3 Max 14 inch to me. I even ordered the M3 Max 14 inch online and my payment was put on hold because I forgot to give my bank a heads up that I was going to be spending a lot more than usual that day. While I could have just returned the 14 inch if I didn’t like it; I’m grateful that I continued doing further research on these MacBook variations even after I ordered it because it’s possibly saved me a lot of time, money and energy. Even though I appreciate the size and feel of the 14 inch, I realized that not going with the 16 inch would be an atrocity considering the price I’m already paying and the performance I seek to achieve with this machine. I’d be playing myself! I’m used to experiencing a hot dry climate, so I can’t imagine having to possibly deal with annoying fan noise from the 14 inch over working itself, struggling to keep the MacBook cool and operating at a max capacity, which limits the boundaries in which the M3 Max chip was designed to perform. I will be getting the MacBook M3 Max 16 inch instead. Besides, I’m looking for a durable machine that can optimize my tech experience with plenty of screen space to not feel limited on the go. With a longer lasting battery and a cooler running system; I don’t mind dealing with the extra weight and space of the 16 inch. For me, that’s a sacrifice worth the confidence of optimum efficiency. My goal is to feel empowered enough to ditch my desktop should I feel obliged to do so and to have a machine that provides the freedom to explore other technological abilities should new endeavors spark my interest.

same here was thinking m3 pro base model 18gb 512gb but wanted to upgrade the ram to 36 and didn’t want to carry around a dongle for ssd so decided to upgrade to 1tb just a bit more i could get the entry max model now, then i decided if i’m getting a max might as well max of the max… 48gb 1tb max of the max preparing for delivery

@@kry1429 I ended up getting the 48 GB and 1TB of storage. It was delivered like 2 days ago. Love it so far! The size isn’t even that big to me. Glad I cancelled my 14 inch order. I would’ve been disappointed. It’s funny, I just hung a Travis Scott ‘Birds in the Trap’ poster up on may wall and was about to play “Goosebumps” when I noticed your comment. 😎 Classic music! I might have to open up my ‘Rodeo’ Vinyl after all these years of having it… maybe lol. I still want a ‘Rodeo’ styled action figure of Travis! Those are expensive though! Phew! That 90210 music video is just so cool. Anyways, enjoy your MacBook!

Oh man the last time my bank put a hold on my card was when I preordered the Apple Watch Series 4, $400 was by far my biggest purchase at that point, and JP Morgan was shaking in his boots… yesterday I bought a 16” M3 Max and American Express didn’t even flinch lol

Binned m3 max (14 core) is great in the 14 inch. Recently I found an open box 36gb/1tb/m3 max 14core for $2500 which was an incredible deal

there are many tests where the 14 can not handle the max at full power as it overheats and the fans in the 14 is just not big enough for that workload. I also think that for that price you simply have to go with the bigger screen.

Why would it need to be higher? Bandwidth is almost always beyond what is needed in virtually any computer. We've seen very few products limited by bandwidth in modern computing

Needs upgradeable pcie5 SSD and memory after purchase and some way to add an external GPU. Or you are forever stuck to a date if manufacture and I delete in a few years.

Single core performance matters, something that you have not taken into account here at all. Also, I compared the M3 Max to the M2 Max, not the M2 Ultra. Still, if you want to play that game, look at benchmarks. Despite the M2 Ultras 50% higher core count, the M3 Max manages to keep up and even trade blows in some cases (although, the M2 Ultra does beat it on average, still, not by a substantial amount).

No, they made the Max a LOT more powerful and the Pros only a little bit better compared to prev generation. Thus the gap between the two are larger now.

@@choiliveI agree. The M3 Pro is a failure in my mind. I would far rather jump back to an M2 Pro (refurb unit) that purchase a new M3 Pro. Waiting to see what Apple does in subsequent generations…M4, M5, etc. The reasons why Apple did this with the M3’s have been all over the map by many reviewers-so hard to say who is right.

If you will be doing 3D stuff, the binned M3 Max has a 30 core GPU vs 40 (non binned) so quite the difference

@@princezilli4109 it is true that if you are gonna use Unreal engine there are some cutting edge features that are not available on Mac, like Nanite and Lumen, for now, I think. But in general, the most popular game engines work well on Mac as well. I don’t know if a virtualized Windows machine would enable those features or are hardware dependent, I haven’t really tried.

No. It is expensive because it’s a high margin, lower volume chip. Apple has much more profit on the M3 Max vs the baseline M3 (high volume, lower profits). It’s economy of scale. The M3 Max is probably not that much more expensive for them to make vs the M3, not the same way they price the product to their customers. Apple does everything they can to move you up the ladder when you purchase their products. Which is why they made the M3 Pro a bit weaker in comparison; it tempts you to push through all the way to the Max.
