The lack of Ram on the M3 for $1600 makes the M2 Pro look significantly better for the same price since you get an extra port, better HDMI support, better cooling, better memory Bandwidth and most importantly 16 GB of ram. 👌

@@andrewmodupe9849 It depends on your needs. The M1 Pro will have similar features to the M2 pro but it’s older and has less years remaining for software support. I just cannot remember how much RAM the M1 Pro has. It was either 12 GB or something

@@Thatbeardedguy86Long story but basically I bought the new MacBook Air M3 and when it was pre ordered through Best Buy. But somehow after I received confirmation and tracking they said it was back ordered. I then saw a MacBook Pro M3 Pro Space Black for about $1600 on Best Buy website at my local store as an open box in pristine condition. The only thing that was noticeable on it was a dirty screen which was no problem after I cleaned it. Associate at Best Buy said their open box electronics are cheap but typically in excellent condition because people return them for not liking the color or wanting something more expensive, which their return policy is only 15 days. Sorry for the long story 😂

Basically the new MBP with M3 basic chip takes the position of 13” MBP with Touch Bar. Adding a few hundred bucks to your budget gets you a superior model. I can’t wait to see what Apple would do with their M3 MBAs.

*Can you test encoding speed on the new final cut pro 10.7 update. It has faster encoding for M chips that have multiple encoders.* Test all the chips from M2 and M3 series. -M2/M3 and M2/M3 Pro have single encoders. -M2/M3 Max have double encoders -M2 Ultra has quadruple encoders. Test both h264 and hevc encoding. We want to see how fast having multiple encoders is now.

I eventually bought the M3 Pro MacBook Pro, preferred it over M3 because 18 GB RAM over 8GB. The battery lasts anywhere between 12-15 hours. If I used less Photoshop or video editing apps, then lasted 14 hours from 100% - 11%. This is good for me.

5:45 64% faster with 40% more GPU cores. Crazy is right. Those 2 machines had nearly identical memory, and assuming the Cinebench 2024 GPU test is not CPU limited, we’re seeing a big effect from thermal throttling.

I bought the 16 GB MacBook Pro M3 for $1520 net price, and you can too. Using the educational discount (which Apple lets anyone use without question), the price dropped from $1799 to about $1580. Then, since I have an Apple Card, the cash back of about $60 got me to $1520. Only about $20 more than the sale price of $1499. I’m OK with an additional 8 GB of RAM for $20.

Same model I bought and love it, bought it for DJing with serato dj pro with the rev 7 and it pisses all over it I have the latency down at the very minimum and even while using stems of the cuff the fans don’t even spin up it absolutely eats dj software it’s an absolute dream machine of a Mac Pro!! I came from a 13” 2019 i5 base model and the difference is mind blowing 🤯

Awesome video guys! Hey if you want another video idea, I’d love to see the PCs you compared to M2 Max earlier this year - the MSI GT77HX, the most powerful PC laptop which has the i9 and 4090, or even that Razer Blade 16 with the i9 and 4080, compared to the new M3 Max! It wasn’t so cut and dry last time with M2 Max, with both sides trading blows, but Apple made such a huge leap with M3 Max that I think it could leave them in the dust in pretty much everything.

There's no way M3 Max is beating any of these laptops in GPU performance so it isn't leaving them in the dust. However, I would like to see a comparison with the razer blade 16.

@@fidelisitor8953 I say that because unless 3D Mark changed their benchmark a lot and they’re no longer comparable, M3 Max will score at least 10 fps higher than the Razer Blade 16 (4080) did in their earlier video, in Wild Life Extreme Unlimited. Personally I think it could easily hold its own against the best of them, and crush them in CPU no doubt

I have suggested before you running a site and documenting all tests for all machines, so we can compare new to old(er). I'm an photo/video editor and I like some gaming now and then. I would love to see some real gaming tests on these m3, m3 pro and m3 max machines as I'm up for an upgrade. You do not compare M3 vs M3 pro, but instead you compare Macbooks with different Chips and different RAM You should compare M3 with 16GB vs M3 pro with 18GB - that would have sense and logic.

Something important that is not mentioned in this video is that the standard M3 macbook can only be configured with a maximum of 24gb RAM. The M3 Pro can be configured with up to 36gb RAM. The increased RAM capacity of the M3 Pro is the main reason why I bought that model. 16GB of RAM is a bare minimum for any computer in the year 2023. It's ridiculous that Apple is still selling computers with 8gb's! If you want the computer to stay relevant for 8+ years, you'll need at least 32gb's. 64gb's would be even better, but then you are looking at $4000+ with the M3 Max chip. The 14" M3 Pro with 36gb is probably the best option for those that want something that's relatively affordable, and will remain relevant for many years.

Took your advice took back my M3 Base with 16gb I got for 1679 (education discount) from apple for the M3 Pro for 1850 at Best Buy (they price matched amazon). I would highly recommend anyone who wants to make the switch pick it up at Best Buy so you don't have your 2,000 dollar lap top sitting on your front step.

Thanks for a another nice video and a well reasoned choice recommendation rationale. Apple kind of made a “perfect” upgrade ladder incentive for the M3 MacBook Pro 14” to the M3 Pro based model. Conclusion: Just save up for at least the M3 Pro based base model 😅 Plus you can use 2 external monitors with the M3 Pro chip based model, only 1 with the M3 based model. Many devs like to have at least 2 external monitors.

I think the pricing is there to nudge people to upgrade to the $1999 M3 Pro model. If you need more than 8GB of RAM, the $200 extra for the M3 Pro chip seems like a no brainer.

After watching MANY reviews I decided for the MacBook Pro 16" 36GB instead of the Max. It wasn't even a price issue, but I liked the slightly cooler and more power efficient package while still being crazy fast.

@@shantytownbrown Well I didn't consider the 1TB version of the base 16" MBP so my price difference was much more - however that said, I liked the ultra long battery life and less heat. Plus some people mentioned a high-pitched whine of the Max so hence my decision. And I love it, my memory usage with 4 different browsers open with 50 tabs or so plus several programs like Notes, Mail, Calendar etc. is around 25 GB, max 30 GB.

battery life is better on the m3 as opposed to the m3 pro. which for most people who are not doing all the audio/video editting is more important than a faster computer. i bet 90% of people are just surfing web and not doing video/audio editting.

Base M3 beats base M1 Pro in CPU. M1 Pro has more GPU cores but M3 GPU is newer and more powerful so real-world GPU would usually go to M3. Both start at 512 GB storage, and M3 is using two NAND chips this time so the SSD will be fast (unlike last years base M2). Finally, RAM is significantly better on M1 Pro due to starting at 16 GB vs 8 GB. Memory bandwidth is also higher on the M1 Pro, 200 GB/s vs 100 on M3. However, if you’re willing to drop a little bit more on the M3, I would pick it over M1 Pro any day of the week. (That is, unless you find an amazing price for the TOP end un-binned M1 Pro…)

Thank you for the series of exciting and insightful videos about the M3 series. Also on your advice, I got an M3 Pro and am very satisfied. As a deal to Blick-Friday what a great offer. Nice video, and I definitely think 8 gb of ram just isnt enough if you do any real work on your laptop , I look forward to more tests and reviews with M3 Max models , especially the base 14inch M3 Max MacBook Pro

Been using the M3 Pro 16 inch for the past week, it is insane. Definitely recommend 36gb of ram. Once I start video editing and multitasking, it idles around 18gb of ram.

is there any slight performance issues when multitasking heavily while video editing? Will be going from editing 4k on an intel 2019 32gb to the m3 pro 14 with 36gb. Absolutely stoked to not be slowed down anymore.

@@mykalmusic_honestly just from what you’re upgrading from, everything will be smooth like butter. I went from a windows i7 laptop to a 16 inch m1 pro with 16gb, and that change has been amazing for me too. I’m sure an m3 pro will do you well

@@mykalmusic_ In premiere pro, 10-bit 4K with a color grade doesn’t even phase the M3 Pro. However, when I started editing ProRes Raw it started lagging. It’s not perfect, but it works better than my iMac i9 5700xt.

@@LordBagdanoff No, it remains pretty cool, and during an editing session I have yet to hear the fans. But I’m glad I got the 36gb of ram, a friend of mine got the 18gb version and it fills up most of the time. I’m not sure if it affects her work, but she currently has no complaints.

I wish you had used a 16GB version of M3 Mac. I have M1 macs of 8gb and 16 GB variants and there is a significant diff in CPU performance even when not suing using that full 8gb ram. i dunno why

I don't game on the Mac. I game on my PC and XBOX. So, the metal number really isn't that big of a deal for me. I would love to get into gaming on a single universe (Apple) but too date not there yet and Madden is not on the Mac in full featured form. Also, if I were to really go all the way into gaming I would probably look into the Max or Ultra M3. It would be lightroom and video production that would be the determiner for me. I use DaVinci Resolve and do it mainly on my PC right now. So, for me I will wait until upgrading my 12700K Intel PC to determine where to go with PC or Mac. Then I would guess Apple would be out with the M5.

In summary. The M3 MBP is an Macbook Air with Mini LED 120hz, better speakers and more ports that many Non-Real-Pro People wanted.

Those machines are potentially so great since the M1 but it's a shame that apple choses to put artificial limitations on their hardware (ram and GPU bandwidth)
