Akela Kelly has said that her original script is waaaay more gory than the theatrical version but they plan to add the gore back to the digital version. I am excited to see that one as well but really liked this movie.

If you’re American so me a favour and say Aaron out loud… then say Erin. 🤪. We pronounce names differently doesn’t mean they are wrong. Usually I only pronounce Megan the way she does in the film when it’s spelt with a h - Meghan.

I loved this fun campy movie! It was totally self-aware which makes a huge difference. Totally agree with going to see it in theaters so you get the crowd effect. Did not expect to laugh quite so much, but that's a good thing. All in all, a very entertaining film.

M3GAN and Barabarian and even Smile have been good examples lately of simpler ideas being an advantage. If you look at the latest installments of (for example) Halloween and Jurassic Park, they go so off the rails with their storylines that they feel like a chore to watch sometimes. They lost touch with the thing that made them great in the first place. (I don’t mean to pile on to the recent hate of those franchises, but you know what I mean.)

You know I’m a big fan of Malignant, and I enjoyed M3gan but my rating wasn’t so high for this, I wasn’t feeling great that day (I was having an anxiety attack while watching the movie, so I wasn’t focusing as much) and probably that affected how much I enjoyed this hahah so I might need to rewatch it before it gets taken away, we got it a week before it’s worldwide release 😮

The pregame energy alone had me ready to break into a local cinema in the middle of the night to try and watch this immediately. Sounds like there’s a lot to enjoy with this one. Really enticing review! M3gan, what’s wrong? Oh my god I can’t wait.

Fantastic review Emma! I loved it too. SO good that I didn't want it to end. I laughed, was moved and creeped out, but what I really loved was the deeper message that resonates with how today's world of technology/social media is affecting and changing real human connection, especially with children. I can't wait to see the unrated directors cut. There is a lot of potential here for epic sequels with how contemporary M3gan is and all the substance it carries.

I really enjoyed this movie, too! And it might as well have been my best audience experience ever. Everyone was in such a good mood, no complaining afterwards saying "Ugh, it wasn't scary at all", because I think everyone was very aware that it wasn't supposed to be. There's a moment where Megan starts singing Titanium but as a lullaby and a surprising amount of people started to sing along with her. And to finish it off: there was this guy sitting next to me with the most contagious laughter. It was the best.

I just commented on someone elses comment section thinking they would put the tamer version in theaters and release an uncut version to Blu Ray/home release so it's looking like that will happen! Also I watched Heck yesterday day. It was really good. It reminded me of an indie horror game.

I am totally with you on this Emma. A very solid film. Not only the best film of 2023, so far, but it would have been pretty high on the chart for 2022. And you are right it's both a crowdpleaser with a bit of a wink, yet it really hints far more nuance and depth than it has any right to. I've been working on videos about our addictions and phobias related to the Cute and the Creepy lately. And this took a bowling ball and rolled it straight to a strike on many issues. Thanks for braving the theatres once again for us.

I knew you would enjoyed this one Emma. You did an excellent job avoiding all of the marking Universal put out for this film as you saw the Megan dance all of the place. I can't see to the R rated version of the film and would to see what they have in store for Megan next. #TeamM3gan

I watched this a couple days ago and I still don't get the hype. As a camp/comedy, it wasn't funny enough and as a horror, it's definitely not "scary". I feel like it had potential to really go full on camp horror and be super fun but it ended up just being "meh". imo M3GAN is also the only good character and I expected more from her/it since everyone's branding her as a new horror doll icon lol. It just didn't deliver imo.

CGI was actually minimal in this movie. M3GAN is usually either a puppet or Amie Donald (an 11 year old gymnast and dancer) in a mask and wig. And the mask would be replaced with a CGI face.

I was the only one that laughed when M3GAN was placed under the tree with the stuffed animals. It reminded me of E.T. trying to blend in with the other toys in the closet.

I really didn't like Malignant but I LOVED M3GAN! She is a snarky lil byotch and it's amazing. Her lil' strut while she's holding a machete? Magnificent. Her song choice when she's shredding on the pian? Apt and hilarious. I'm going to be so annoying to everyone in my social circle with how much I gush about this movie!

I thought this movie tried WAY too hard to appeal to every demographic. My friends kids are excited to see this, as well as my grandpa because he knows it’s not overly violent lol. I think the die hard horror fans will have a hard time with this one because of how obviously toned down it is

This is why it sucks to live in Britain. People don’t laugh in cinemas. People scream and get jump scared. But they are quite reserved when it comes to laughing. I’d love to watch this in an American cinema

I'd heard murmurs of there being an unrated version being released down the line, i want to see this (as i loved malignant) but I'd much rather see the gory cut if it exists. *edit* Also - i've been avoiding the trailers and coverage cause i'd rather be pretty blind going in, but is the Megan character an actual animatronic / cg / actor? I've not been able to tell from the little bits i've seen and i'm hesitant to look too much further into it before seeing the movie.

It’s so funny you said that everyone was laughing, cause my theater was the same way! But there were these two older ladies that sat a little to the right in front of us, and they told these girls who were in our isle (to the right of us)… “Can you PLEASE be quiet”… but legit, the WHOLE entire audience had been laughing at that point. it was wild. Oh, and why would these girls be talking. Maybe because M3GAN’s hair just did that 😂😂😂😂 please tell me someone knows the hair shot I’m referring too lol 🐾

I watched it an hour ago and first reactions were, I enjoyed it. I thought it was okay. I did like it had something to say about society's consumerism and reliance on technology. We've seen this lesson before and sometimes done better, but M3GAN is a solid antagonist. I would probably recommend it as a "Stream it" though.

Great review, this was a fun and slick film. Allison Williams stole the film. In fact both leads were really great. Allison's character shifts from unlikeable ambitious inventor to self aware and concerned aunt. Megan was interesting and kind of fun to observe to see how far she will go. But boy is this film cheesy in parts with the one liners. Allison was easily the best thing in it.

I’ve seen it three times, and each theater had such vastly different reactions…. The 1st was laughing at everything, eating it up proper. The 2nd was quiet, didn’t seem to be into it and there was also a baby there? The 3rd was mixed, some laughs, but people on the walk out voicing that their expectations were higher.

The other reason why they toned down the violence in M3GAN and made it to a PG-13 rating because of the popularity all over TikTok with the dance and they wanted to appeal to more younger crowds.

Once the film was over I was pretty confused by the hype. Everyone kept praising the fun comedy aspect of this film but I just didn't feel it for a majority of the runtime. Ultimately not a terrible release for January but nothing really new is happening here

I just went to see the movie today. I like it even though i find the ending to be too quick. I hope to see more on Cady (how she came to protect her aunt after she threw tantrums and slapped her aunt's face early in the day). I feel that it finalized too quickly. Plus, Megan is the only thing that got into Cady's life after the accident. They are together for the whole time. So their relationship bonds and grow. Getting rid of Megan BY HERSELF will be A HUGE CHANGE for her. Rumors said that there will be Megan 2? So the director probably continues that in the next movie, perhaps?
