I got the m2 11 inch for 256 gigabytes for $800 when its was new he didn’t tell you it has the same battery information inside of the battery settings as the iPhone 15 modes like cycle count manufacture date etc.. also if you lose the apple pencil a lot there’s is find my Apple Pencil built into the software of the Apple Pencil

I upgraded from a M1 iPP 12.9”, to the M4 13” iPP 1TB nano screen version and though I know I didn’t “need” it, I was tired of traveling with the M1 iPP both because of its lack of battery life and the weight. The new M4 and Magic Keyboard are now on my list of one of my most favorite Apple devices ever. And I have owned and have been working with Apple computers and devices going back to the late 1980’s.

I love iPads but two things we can all agree on 1. If it’s going to be a pro device, it needs pro features to do pro things… like a professional. 2. Even if it doesn’t get macOS, it still needs an operating system that has more functionality than the iPad currently offers I have an iPad Pro M2 and I love it for what it can do but I consistently find myself desiring more power user features.

I use an iPad daily with some Microsoft apps and I hardly ever touch my MacBook anymore. Unless you are doing something that specifically needs different hardware or software not on the iPad , the iPad really does do it all.

I had been going back and forth between upgrading to an M4 iPad and a MacBook Pro since I have an aging 1st generation iPad Pro. It came down to a resounding YES for me personally. I use the pen, love the pen upgrade, love the Magic Keyboard, and I feel like this one should have no problems serving me for the next 7 years like the last one did.

I just purchased a refurbished 5th generation Ipad Pro 12.9 and it's amazing. I did it mainly for the screen size when I play music on my keyboard. I also bought an 11 inch 4th generation. It too is amazing. I also have a Mini 6 and the classic M1 Macbook Air which is absolutely amazing. I see no reason to get the latest at this time. I've also got the 2021 Imac, which I got refurbished through Apple as well and an old Imac in the basement plus the Iphone 14 Plus. You might say I've become obsessed with Apple products but I realize that doesn't mean I have to always have the latest and greatest.

You tubers need to stop reviewing the iPad as something it isn’t. It isn’t a desktop replacement portable device laptops do that iPads do not, what it is, is a brilliant creative and consumption device for on the go, the whole point of a tablet. It will cover the basics of office work at a pinch but that’s not its primary function its primary function is art and video and photo editing on the go, it’s design, taking notes, marking up plans, signing off pdfs, taking and sharing pictures and video from on site, having zoom meetings, storing user manuals. It’s brilliant at all these things better than a laptop for most of them and that is what your iPad Pro is for.

Disagree: You can get a cheap tablet either Apple or Android or Windows even and run remote desktop to use it as a thin-client laptop for work. So you're first point that the iPad is "ONLY" a sort of passive consumption device is not exactly true. A lot of people would love a portable laptop-like device that can double as a tablet for ease of use and casual use apart from professional use (ignoring artists and creatives and even those guys want more software options from their iPads).

Lol, it takes some stones to tell iPad owners what they should or shouldn’t do with their device. Just ask @jerryrigeverything? Or for that matter iPad owners shouldn’t expect iPads to perform like a laptop? With that kind of thinking we’d all still be writing on stone tablets? Or are you will just accept that you need to buy two devices because some unscrupulous profit motivated manufacturer told you, you had to?

Or a surface or a Lenovo foldable or one of the plethora of other not any good at anything 2in1’s you can buy if that is you bag. iPads have unique niche that suits many people for many personal and professional reasons. It’s annoying how many commenters there are trying to justify why the iPad should be a limited piece of crap that barely does anything more than an iPhone or a tablet from 5+ years ago. I swear some of these people must have the productivity of a 8 year old… scanning documents, watching KZfaq and doodles, got it 👍, surely that’s worth it 1000+ dollars.

You mentioned that it can only charge up to 40watts, so it's not passing through more than that. But what about if you had an accessory plugged in? Could it passthrough up to the 60w then?

I’m on the fence. I have the 13 inch M1 Pro and I love it. The only real reason I can think of to justify the newer M4 would be the functionality of the new apple Pen Pro. Which the new iPad Air can use as well. Problem is the new Air feels like a step down from an M1 Pro on the display side. For now I think I wait and see what happens on October. I have a hunch we may see some small details updated then that may affect my choice here

I have tried the M2 and switched to the M4 ipad pro because yes the Oled (definitely a difference), but it is also noticeably lighter and thinner. I read lots of articles and find it easier to hold vs the other 12.9" devices (i'm female with small hands). I also find that it doesn't overheat as much as the M2.. but it still does get warm when doing art. The Ipad pro pencil haptic feedback for double tap is amazing when taking notes! Sometimes I accidentally double tap to erase without realizing it and now I can tell immediately when I switched back. I haven't tried the keyboard as I use the MBA for writing and other tasks.

I bought the new 13 iPad Pro 512gb version as an upgrade for my 3rd gen iPad Pro 256gb and the difference is huge. My old unit was showing its age with battery performance and starting to struggle with certain apps.

That’ll come after Apple figures out how to address all the M3 MBAs they just sold. They’re in a spot where they have to figure out when to shut down M3 production for everything. Problem is that unlike the other M versions, the M3 is on production line that TSMC would love to shut down. As Roger Watters said, “It all makes perfect sense expressed in dollars and cents …”

I upgraded from my 2017 iPad Pro 10.5. I've been waiting for a big enough difference in hardware. Also, I think my 2017 will lose OS upgrades soon since it's the last Pro with a home button on it and the 2016 Pro (9.7") is not supported anymore. It was a hard decision though since my 2017 model does still do everything I need from it (software-wise). I'm sure I'll find uses for the older one for a long time to come. I just gave up on my Mini 2 last year after KZfaq refused to run on the old iOS so these will run forever, long past when software doesn't.

I bought the M2 iPad a few weeks ago, but when I went to the Apple store the other day and saw the screen of the M4 iPad Pro 13 inch, I retuned the iPad Pro 2022 and bought the new one. I do a lot of reading, so for me this new iPad is perfect!!!

I think the biggest upgrade decision is going from m2 11 inch to m4 11 inch. I made the reluctant switch and there are so many differences between these 2 models. Larger PIP options, more screen resolution, oled screen, larger base storage, lighter. The new 11 inch is 👌🏽. Would recommend the upgrade from any older 11 iPad Pro. I hope a reviewer dives into more of the little differences to the 11 inch from m2 to m4.

I had the same reaction with regard to how bright the screen was. I turn it down all the time especially in low light. I know it’s lighter but I don’t really feel that. I purchased the 13” 512 with WiFi and cellular. Bought the keyboard but not the pen. At $2048 I concur that it isn’t worth the upgrade from my pre-M1 iPad Pro 12.9. Unfortunately I already gave my daughter the previous one so no going back.

Have you tried using it with a Bluetooth keyboard? I find Nuphy Air60 v2(w/cowberry) to be way nicer than a $300 thing which is heavy and converts it into a not very useful “laptop”. The only issue was that it doesn’t work well with keybindings and you also probably need a trackpad to do with iPad is anything which you can easily do on MacOS without it.

The one with the M4 has better screen (you see it every day). has a better battery (through the better screen). It's faster and more future proof. It's has ray tracing for 3D rendering and gaming. 20% better thermal performance due to better passive cooling under heavy load. It has around 23 % faster NPU for AI as the m2. And a faster memory bandwidth so the AI processing power will be even faster with CPU+GPU+NPU, this is important for running local models (for OS features and app features, e.g. Draw Things app). What will be your usage/workflows for the next 7 years? Think about it. You can also buy an older one and then rebuy in 3-5 years.

I’m upgrading from a gen 1 pro to the M4 purely for the display. I have a weird issue with my eyes that means I can’t use LED displays without my eyes feeling like they are on fire. Something to do with PWM. I’ve been waiting for the OLED display for years so it’s worth the money (just) for me

I think people are missing that for a lot of people we use iPads as our main computer. For me personally i have a separate work laptop and for my personal device my main uses are watching videos, surfing the web, playing games and reading. For that the iPad is the perfect form factor for lying in bed reading/watching tv and is a godsend when i travel with its portable size. I have been on an iPad Pro for 3 years now and have not missed not having a laptop this entire time.

For your user scene, a M1 iPad Pro is more than enough. M1 iPad Pro Apple refurbished is even cheaper than the new iPad Air . I feel like that is a better deal. Just double checked, the M1 iPad Pro 11’ is already removed from apple refurbished store… So they either notice that could harm new iPad Air sale or people found out that is a good deal and bought them till out of stock….

I bought the 11 inch M4 to replace a 10.5 inch pro. The display, the performance and the extra RAM (over the 10.5 inch) seem like a huge improvement to me. And,in my opinion, worth the price. Movie watching with black instead of gray is awesome. The ability to read small text in spreadsheets and other tabled data is a game changer. No more need to head over to my laptop for that stuff. For a guy who does network and security management this is a big deal. But maybe that’s just me?

But the deep black of an OLED screen is much better even when compared to the LCD screens I use in dark mode at the office. But I’m happy for you that you got your dose of calling someone a liar on the internet. Maybe you’ll think a little harder before you do it next time.

I just hit the new 13” pro, Magic Keyboard and pencil. I’m not a power user, using mainly for mafia consumption. But it like driving a really nice, expensive car with the biggest, fastest engine powering it. But not really going above the speed limit ever! But it drives really nice and smooth!

I have the M4 iPad, I would say that I would only recommend the this version for anyone who is using it for professional work. Plus I decided to go with the Logitech Combo keyboard instead of the Magic Keyboard, it is way more better plus the trackpad is larger too. You do lose the extra USB port, but if you get a USB-C adapter, then this won’t be a problem.

I have an iPad Pro 12.9 inch (5th generation) and the battery is beginning to fail in that I have to recharge if using it all day. I like the iPad and use it more than my desk top, I use the desk top for word processing and basic spread sheets and gaming. If I could get the apps to word process etc I’d consider replacing the desktop with a new iPad and keyboard. It could be a real alternative to a laptop / desktop.

I have been watching a few KZfaqrs that draw/paint on the iPad Pro review the M4 iPad Pro vs M2 iPad Air. A few takeaways for me; 1) the Apple Pencil Pro with barrel roll could be major and the lag difference between the 60 hz iPad Air M2 and 120 hz iPad Pro lag time may be important-smoother strokes make a difference; 2) Apple Pencil Pro squeeze seems like it would help a lot-changing in dialogue boxes by reaching to them adds an annoying step and it would be great if the squeeze would take that step out. Regarding the lack of MacOS/iPad OS Hybrid OS on the iPad Pro is likely a deal breaker. Since I use Surface Pro more than iPad Pro 2018 for sketching/painting and just about everything I will likely upgrade my Surface Pro 8 to the Surface Pro 11 rather than upgrade my iPad 2018. For the future I likely will go Microsoft for Surface Pro and desktop and Apple for Watch, iPhone and probably Mac Mini. I am one of those people that Apple is pushing out of their ecosystem simply because they refuse to go with MacOS on iPad Pro.

I use my 13" iPad Pro M4 after trading in my MacBook Air M2 and old iPad Pro M1. I don't really miss a beat, not sure why there is so much hate. Multi-tasking is not as good but what were you literally doing with multi-tasking on a MacBook Air sized screen anyways?

I have a fully spec’s M4 iPad Pro and love it. Really like the nanotextured glass, virtually no glare. Granted, with the keyboard, pencil and tax, it cost $3300. So if that concerns you, save the money and pick something more reasonable. The cost of ownership of iPads is definitely getting too pricey for most would be buyers.

I got the 13-inch. The only argument for me was the 1000 NITS. I sit alot outside and using SDR content. With 600 NITS this was hard to read, now this is brilliant! Thats all. Else, I would have stayed on the 12.9-inch 2021

I have iPad Pro 12.9’ with Apple Pencil and Apple Magic Keyboard. And like previous years the iPadOS is limiting the functionality of the iPad. Even the Final Cut Pro for iPad still limited compared to Mac version. Still there is no image stabilisation and no key framing in colouring or special effects. Not going to upgrade to new iPad Pro till Apple fixes iPadOS. Still waiting for disk Utility version for iPadOS so I can repair or format drives which you cannot do on the iPad.

I have the M1 11” iPad Pro and thinking of upgrading to M4 for the screen alone I work in construction and am outside a lot that 1000 nits screen would be nice but do I absolutely need it….no lol plus it’s really expensive and I don’t want to get all new accessories. Kind of just waiting for WWDC to make my decision. 😅

I’m guessing here, but I think the unused memory will be used to store all the assets needed for the desktop version of iPadOS when docked. A desktop saved memory state.

New M4 MacBook Pro with Tandem OLED would be amazing for color grading work. I’ve had problems with the mini-LED bloom when grading in DaVinci Resolve with M1 Max MacBook Pro. Yes, the M1 Max chip is still a beast! But the screen bloom is sometimes troublesome.

Thank you, for your honest opinion saying "do not buy his Apple device". The only exception that, I see would be for someone buying the smaller M-4, iPad Pro model. This is because, you now get to have all the same features as with the larger model (i.e. same high resolution display, etc.). Primarily iPad Pro models make the most since for persons who, like myself have an Apple desktop computer but, have no need for an Apple laptop computer. Yet, we still need something portable with a larger screen than, we have on our smart phones (smile...smile).

I agree with your points, but I’m really enjoying my new maxed out M4 iPad Pro. I’m still holding out hope that iPadOS 18 will fix many of the problems that plague the software. I would personally like an option to dual boot into macOS. macOS doesn’t have to replace iPadOS, I would just like an option to dual boot into it like Intel Macs could dual boot into windows

It depends what you do. Surface pro or macbook air or pro are a lot more productive than ipad. Still major use of ipad is browsing, note taking, email or watching movies or youtube.

The iPad is primarily a consumption device for me. I love the 120Hz refresh rate on my 2018 iPad Pro. But every time I try to watch anything on it, especially in dark places like mid flight, my iPhone (13 pro before, 15 pro max now) just looks so much better with its true blacks instead of the greys on the iPad, that despite the small size, I just switch to the iPhone. This is much more apparent in HDR/Dolby Vision content. I am not sure why some reviewers are saying that the OLED display is not that big a deal.

I have a 3rd gen iPad Pro 12.9 and I’ve barely ever used it. It’s unwieldy and if I’m mostly using it in keyboard mode… I rather use my MacBook Pro 14” with the M1 Pro. I purchased a iPad Mini off facebook marketplace place that has been a far better companion device alongside my phone. The iPad was designed to be a companion device not a straight up replacement which it still can’t be. I’m allured to the new 13” with all the hype but I’ve been waiting for a 11” pro with oled and they finally delivered. That with a folio might be my mini replacement as I don’t anticipate they’ll add 120hz and oled to the mini unfortunately. Everything I have has a high refresh now so the mini is a tad “disconnected” from the rest of my other device experiences.

I use to have the M1 iPad Pro 11” since launch date and sell it this march. Was waiting to upgrade but being iPad less for almost two months now didn’t make it miss it at all. Granted it, the hardware is excellent, and so is the iPhone’s and MacBook’s. If apple doesn’t keep up with software, no matter the crazy specs not that much people is buying it.

There wasn’t any issue with the previous hardware, however, they still hasn’t changed that much the software that utilizes that amazing brand new hardware. The iPad is better than ever, but a small niche of people is going to benefit from it. It may help with sales in the short term, but if WWDC is a fiasco again, won’t help on the mid term

The hardware is amazing as usual, and may push them in the short term. But if WWDC happens to disappoint again, it won’t last that long in the mid term. Sales are declining and ofc the popular iPad is the regular one since is the only reasonably priced one, while the other ones have so much potential and yet so limited by their software.

I have an IPad PRO 11.9 (sorry IPad 302.26 now US is going metric), I use it mostly in a professional capacity as a tool for sketching, Sketchbook, Clip Studio and Procreate. Would I buy a new one with an OLED display, probably not since everything I read points to OLEDs burning in and deteriorating with static images like toolbars and white backgrounds. Ironically the Apple Air now seems like the best choice as a professional working tool and the Apple Pro better suited for home use, listening to music, watching videos and playing games where the OLED screen will be fine.

I wanted to get the M4 13” Pro with Magic Keyboard but the rational side of my brain says hold onto my 2018 12.9” Pro with Folio Keyboard which is 200g lighter than the new combo and serves me very well. The OLED display is a big pull but not worth the money.

The faster something charges the faster the battery will wear out. Slow charge is better for battery life. I don’t understand why folks don’t get that. Just upgraded from a 2017 second gen iPad Pro that is still going strong. This new m4 11 inch version is even better. Small, powerful, light, super portable and simple to use. Gave my laptop to my son and just use this now and don’t regret it.

The impact is negligible and it’s not worth worrying about. As long as you are using chargers from reputable brands it doesn’t matter. Having battery health anxiety isn’t worth it.

Honestly, I would've preferred a surface pro like stand and it be a little thicker. For artists, It could make sense to go with the m2 ipad pro so you can use the new apple pencil pro with it. The hover is nice, but the roll is my most wanted feature in addition to the 8/16 gb ram for more layers. I've been hitting the layer cap pretty hard with my 2018 11in pro.

It might be great Netflix machine but I’m waiting for cheaper Vision headset - that’s the ultimate Netflix machine. Otherwise will upgrade to next iPad mini for single tasking is great and can be used as extra screen to my MacBook.

No, the new Magic Keyboard does not come in contact with the screen due to a thin rubber lip around the perimeter of the keys lifting the screen up, when closed, a fraction of a millimeter. But if you plan of smashing it between heavy textbooks or exerting an unnatural amount of downward pressure, get a screen protector. Yes, the iPad Pros support external hard drive directly through the USB-C port on the iPad but the new Magic Keyboards can only receive charge and cannot support any peripherals, hard drives included. You have to plug the hard drive directly into the iPad’s USB-C charging port.

It's mostly preference, if you need touch screen and Apple Pencil then the iPad Pro would be great, but the MacBook Air would have a keyboard that comes with it and you have macOS compared to iPadOS. Also the iPad Pro with keyboard, and Apple Pencil will cost more than the MacBook Air, so that's also something to consider. Hope this helps! Quick Note: 13" M4 iPad Pro 512GB with keyboard and Apple Pencil Pro Cost $1,977. The 13" M3 MacBook Air With 512GB Cost $1,299. if you go with the 15" you're at $1,499 still $478 less and get a bigger screen.

I have the 13 and it's good if you use it stationary in your bed or as a screen, however if you intend to actually use the tablet to read etc on a sofa I'd recommend the 11 because the 13 is very hard to hold in your hands vertically. In terms of cellular it's up to you. I got the non-cellular and it's fine. For any work I might do in a coffee shop or outside I'd just connect to my phone so it wasn't a big deal for me. You can't really use it as a phone anyway, I would consider if the messages is a deal breaker for you or not.

I use my iPad as my main device and my MacBook is just an accessory. I'm more wondering when MacBooks will finally get a touchscreen and when the display can finally be separated from the keyboard. Why is macOS so cumbersome and not as intuitive as iPadOS? It's all a matter of perspective and therefore hard to judge where the middle ground is. Actually, nothing has changed with the MacBooks since the M1 devices.

I’m just keeping my M2 iPad Pro as I don’t the extra power plus, personal taste, I don’t like the landscape camera. I prefer the portrait orientation for the Face ID. A nitpick I have is I prefer to have my MacBook Pro to have a more powerful chip over my iPad Pro so if I upgrade my iPad Pro my MacBook Pro has to have a chip more powerful since my MacBook is what I use the most.

In the UK it’s only £50 more expensive than the m2 12.9 in retail price so it’s actually better value for the price at launch (tandem oled). Most apple products last year got the price hike due to gbp dropping in value and the M2 was not worth the extra cost over the m1 for just apple pencil hover. 11 inch also got an improvement in screen technology after 7 years (from the 10.5” ipad pro) costing 999 instead of 899 compared to last year’s m2

If the iPad OLED displays need 2 layers (Tandem OLED) to reach 1000 nits for the entire screen, how does the iPhone OLED displays, or some other smartphone displays for that matter manage to reach even more than 1000 nits with just a single layer, regular OLED panel? Some brands like Xiaomi even have smartphones, that reach more than 2000 nits of HDR brightness. Is this only because of the reason that the iPad displays are massive compared to a smartphone display? Or are there any other factors at play?

Probably because it’s way smaller so the energy can concentrate more in those 6 inch displays.
