Genre: Reggae Theme: Happy/Danceful/Motivating/Inspiring Time signature of the song : 2/4 or 4/4 (accents on the 2nd beat usually) Scale of the song: G minor scale Major instruments used: Bass guitar, Trumpet, Electric guitar, Drums, Hand drums tones (udukkai,bongos) . The song is of the genre Reggae. Reggae is a genre originated in Jamaica. African based music genre. ARRahman used this Reggae style in his Chinna chinna aasai song from his first movie Roja. We can hear this style of music in mustafa mustafa song too. The main characteristic of Reggae is the muted electric guitar chords that goes in pulse of the time signature of the song which helps us to identify that this song is in the Reggae style. . The song starts off with the bass guitar which plays an important role in the song. The bass guitar and backing vocals of the children gives a very peppy start to the song after which ARRahman's sharp voice comes in to start the lyrical section. ARRahman's voice is so unique as everyone knows that his range has less to no bass range. This gives the apt vocals for a reggae genre song. The drums section kicks in adding vibe to the song and when the 'hey lamba' portion comes in the vibe meter rises to the next level. In the first BGM (first interlude) of the song, the trumpet and synth flute compliment each other in a very beautiful way to give us the dance feel (the same portion where we see dance master sandy dancing like MJ). The song has beautiful bassline where many glides and runs are performed which adds the style to the song. The counterpart concept of music is very musically arranged in the song which can be heard in the pallavi (jigu jigu rail's re-entry), where ARRahman sings jigu jigu rail portion and the synth flute just plays around the main melody giving us yet another counterpart experience. The 'Ellam maarum' portion is textured thickly with strings/pad along with backing vocals to give us the goosebumps where the viber meter reaches its max in the song. Every time 'Ellam maarum' portion comes in, it changes the environment, mood, feel around us indeed. ARRahman adds in versatility in his singing at the ending portion of the song when he uses some rap style on the lyrics singing, 'ellam maarum amma ellam maarum' and right after that , he used his classical touch of singing in this reggae styled song. The song gently ends with the bass guitar and drums fading out to calm the listeners at the end. the vibe-full song with many vibe-full elements. There's an inherent melancholy in this incredible song which is almost an ARR signature. One of the best ways to capture that melancholic juxtaposition of emotions is having a delightful reggae beat with that catchy bassline and chorus and then have a black and white video to complement it. It's sometimes an incredible challenge to be a Rahman fan because you never know what's gonna come from him .People especially Indians don't realize just how ridiculous it is for a man to compose and produce music in so many genres . In the west , you're either a Hans Zimmer (film composer), or a kanye west (hip hop) or a louis armstrong (jazz) or a taylor swift (pop) or perhaps an Andrew lloyd webber(theatre) etc. Every artist has a genre that he/she performs or produces . Rahman does things that doesn't make sense for anyone who is a world music aficionado. He composes the most beautiful waltz song like taare ginn and goes to a completely different dimension by making a rhythmically kecak driven devaralan attam .If humanitas proorismos pushes the boundries of western classical music by infusing traditional concepts of hindustani classical in it , Adheera is a modern techno masterpiece . He makes rihaayi de and jeena hoga which is for personal experience , but also a vande maatram and aalaporan tamizhan which are anthems .He can make an Ascend master(meditative piece) , a soja soja (jazz) and a sadda haq(rock) as well .And today a reggae piece has released which is just another feather from an incredibly diverse cap.

Grew up listening to ARR in the 90s. It’s difficult to explain how much this man turned the music scene on its head. I was a teenager back then and it’s difficult to quantify the influence he had on me. Even though Roja announced his grand arrival with a bang, Gentleman for me personally was path breaking. The one song which epitomizes it is Chikku Bukku raile. If you ask me it’s still fresh today and nobody other than ARR can create such music. That song also paved way for another star, Prabhudeva! Love you ARR.
