We are a bird rescue, rehabilitation and release center in Copan Ruins, Honduras.
Our mission is to educate and to connect our visitors with the rescue, rehabilitation and release programs for the birds under our care, to promote the conservation of our cultural and natural heritage and to lobby for an environmentally responsible society.
Our program for the restoration of a free-flying scarlet macaw population over the ruins of the Copán Archaeological Park and the Copán valley has been judged a resounding success both regionally and internationally. Its impact has been seen throughout Honduras as people from all parts of the country now see scarlet macaws flying about Copán again.
Our biggest challenge: satisfying the appetites of our 350 feathered friends at the park and the many released birds still partially under our care. The birds eat a diet mostly of fruits, vegetables and seeds. Even though those things are not very expensive in Honduras, the sheer quantity of food needed on a daily basis quickly adds up.
