Apple gave the Air an overhaul, changing just about everything except the name. Where to begin? A Retina Display with much thinner bezels? Check. Apple’s newer “butterfly” keyboard? Yep. Touch ID and louder speakers? Yes and yes. A stripped-down selection of ports? SIGH.
In many ways, it’s the machine that Air holdouts have been waiting for, and I ultimately believe it will please a lot of people. But with a starting price that’s so, so close to the entry-level MacBook Pro, many shoppers are gonna have a tough decision to make.

I think I’m going to go with the new air over the pro. My reasons is for the 3rd gen keyboard, battery life, and Touch ID. The biggest reason for me is the 3rd gen keyboard. The pros keyboard is a dealbreaker for me. Much less reliable and doesn’t feel as good. I have a gaming desktop if I need to do anything heavy so using the Air will be perfect for my college work and simple personal things. Also, it’ll be amazing for when I’m on the go.

Plus, if you're doing programming you wouldn't have any complaints about speed - programming did not get bloated like all the other apps over the years. (with the exception of javascript, of course)

STOP using Chrome and complaining about the browsing battery life! Chrome uses waaay too many resources compared to Safari! You don't think Apple did the browsing battery test using Chrome, do you?!!

I just ordered the air with 16gb of Ram I do light video editing hopefully I don’t get the spinning beach ball, I had the 2018 Touch Bar MBP but my battery kept draining to 24% after I would charge it

I’m using illustrator with a MacBook Air of middle 2012, with 4gb and 128ssd. This upgrade with 8gb and 256ssd for me it’s perfect. The new keyboard, the weight and the battery, they make me prefer to the MacBook Pro. And the gold version it’s super!

I got one, and it feels slow when opening apps compared to my 4 year old top spec MBP. Overall, keyboard sucks, port options and dongles are stupid. Aside from that it is a nice stylish machine. Oh, and why remove the magnetic power connector??

Screen brightness can be a problem if you work outdoors frequently or in a very bright room indoors. Crappy 300nits. But maybe it’s to stretch that battery life to 12 hours.

I'm getting into photo editing and want to eventually start using Adobe Illustrator to make t-shirt design vectors for my business. Will the Macbook Air suffice or do I need to be looking into the Macbook Pro? I like the Pro design more but I'm not a fan of it's touch bar thing or it's price LOL

I’m getting my first Mac next week. I’ll be writing a book and just using it for light KZfaq watching and shopping online. Should I get the earlier MacBook Air? It begins at $999 but with work I get a lot of discounts. Not very concerned about price and specs, I just want a good study laptop...and honestly I like the Apple that lights up. Lol. Maybe I answered my own question. Lol.

I got one NEW for 950.00 in my usual space grey. I just love the Air design (the wedge tapering, etc.) more than the Pro. And i love the battery and overall feel of the machine. My 2014 air still runs like a champ, but i could not resist the retina & touch ID.

I think the battery test anomaly could be because you're using chrome instead of safari. Chrome is my favourite browser too so I can't fault you for that, but it is power hungry and apple have worked really hard optimising safari to sip battery power.

I’m torn between getting a map 2017 (without touch bar) or mba??? I know that the MacBook Pro is a better device in almost very single way, but I really don’t wanna deal the 2nd gen keyboard being all sticky and unresponsive. I was wondering if you know apple has fixed the keyboard on MacBook Pro 2107?? Cause that’s a deal breaker for me

I would buy the base 13 inch Macbook Pro over this. The only downside is it has the old 2nd gen butterfly keyboard which is pron to dust and can still be iffy with sticky none responsive keys.

I went to the store today to try out the new air and it’s really nice to work on. I like the form factor a lot. Even more than the pro. But I am still torn between the air and the pro. The screen of the pro is better. The colors look better on the pro. Next to the air the colors look a little washed out. I still can’t decide which one to buy

I see you like Touch ID some of us find it unnecessary and the new keyboard to be annoying other than that its a "good" computer that should be $200 cheaper and one of the thunderbolt ports should move to the other side or the air be dropped all together and replaced with the iPad Pro I disagree with dropping the 13" pro with the function keys I think apple is making a mistake pushing the ridiculous Touch Bar as its only option going forward.

Fan? I thought the airs used a SSD ? $1799, thats about the same as a top of the line 12.9 iPad pro , which is about as cool as you can get ( granted the pencil and keyboard folio will add another $300 or so to the final price, if you need either). Not an issue for me, as I cant afford any of the new Mac toys, but I can still dream.😴

Yeah this doesn't fill a niche anymore. The pro is already so reasonably thin that you'd rather take that form factor instead. I don't know anyone that really actually needs the extra mm's saved on this air.

Bought this new macbook air in the 256GB configuration. The touch Id sensor is making life so much easier. The keyboard is great, the screen incredible. Love love love my new macbook. I had my old macbook air since 2012 and it managed to last till 2019. That in itself is incredible. I stick with apple because of the longevity their products bring

It's better to spend an additional $100 for a Macbook Pro, but do watch out with the 2nd gen butterfly switches. I've heard those have problems after dust gets into the keys.

For those suggesting non-Apple products, the only reason to get a MacBook is for macOS. If you want macOS, you only have Mac device options unless you want to mess with the hackintosh builds. IMO most people who are looking at getting a MacBook will not consider a Windows based system unless they need GPU performance. I currently have a newer high performance razer blade laptop for gaming and an old 2009 MacBook Pro. The user experience on my old MacBook is still leagues above Windows 10. I do have to give Microsoft credit because Windows is catching up but they still have a lot of work to do like mandatory hardware requirements for standard trackpad experience and biometric authentication.

@@MrXGaming If you are strictly closed to those two options and the most demanding thing you are gonna do is play basic games then go for the 2018 MB Air, the 2017 MBP has a better performance but it has that faulty keyboard and ssd problems. However I would strongly advise you to invest 100 extra $ and get the 2018 MBP, it has waaay better performance than the air and none of the keyboard/ssd problems of the 2017 model

About the battery life, you information in the video are misleading. You are clearly using Google Chrome for web browsing which needs significantly more power than Safari does, therefore battery does not last so long. Very sorry but the review was quite poor.

Mbp 2010 with ports and MagSafe+dvd player plus upgrades, 8 gb ram and ssd, I want go cucú, then my windows desktop w 32gb ram, 1070, 756 gb ssd, 6tb RAID and 9 tb external for backup on a ryzen 1700x. OSX is a great OS but it comes with a big extra cost, so thank you Apple but no thank you... Cost of my desktop somewhere around $2500 bought in parts in around 2 years... something similar from Apple one eye and half my pennis. But it comes in a beautiful bronze, oh I’m sorry gold color, which is very beautiful and somehow people buys crap to cover the lid and the beautiful bronze... damnit, gold color...

Personally, I would choose the MacBook Pro. I compared the weights of both the new Air and MBP 13” at the Apple Store. The Air doesn’t feel dramatically lighter than the MBP 13”. Spec-wise, the MBP 13” offers more for the money and, at least on paper, does not sacrifice too much in battery life compared to the Air. Touch ID makes sense on an iPhone, but to me, it seems more like a novelty on a Mac. You can unlock your MBP with an Apple Watch and only type in a password once in a while.

2018 and a brand new $1000 laptop has trouble playing 4k videos on KZfaq smh. Since when is that even hardware intensive. My phone can do that.

I think that the entry level MacBook Pro is a horrible opinion, because the second gen butterfly keyboard can break easily what doesn’t happen on the MacBook Air !
