In this video I'm unboxing and showing you my new computer. Apple MacBook Pro 16 inch with M1 Pro Processor and 1TB SSD. It's a true next generation computer!
1 year ago I made a video about my 2017 MacBook Pro 13 inch based model with 128GB SSD drive. I named this video: the worst computer in the world. But time has changed - in this video I will show you the very opposite of my previous Mac. The best computer in the world, at least for me.
This year I decided to take things seriously and I purchased the 16 inch Pro model with M1 Pro Processor and I upgraded the SSD to 1TB option. I decided not to save money because I will be using it for a couple of years that’s for sure and I don’t want to run out of space in this so called Pro MacBook.
MacBook Pro 16 inch is a powerful machine that changes course on many of Apple’s design decisions over the last few years. If you can afford the price of entry, it’s the best MacBook so far.

How about portability Arthur? Can you use it on lap or couch or while traveling?

it is a laptop - so it is portable but you need to have quite a large backpack. Also, it is quite heavy so be ready for that. If you want to have a more portable machine - choose the 14-inch model. But I still prefer the 16 - inch :)

Thanks I’m glad you liked my video :) regarding your question: it depends. If you need a macOS device - sure. If you were mostly typing text and watching videos - stay on the iPad ☺️ I never had an iPad. I would always prefer MacBook

Thank you for your reply. Actually, you can have 32gb of unified memory with M1 Pro if you get modified version. And as far as I know, using swap memory (when Mac uses SSD instead of RAM) is not very good for your SSD...

Swap memory will happen with both 32 and 16 gb of ram. This has been the case for many years, but for this generation reviewers have made this an issue. Due to how great the m1 architecture is, this won’t be a problem with how it utilizes ram. Unless you’re doing crazy amounts of coding, 8k video editing, ect, you won’t see any issues. Thats been my problem with so many reviewers. They’re criticizing the baseline macbook pro for not being able to handle their crazy work flows, but thats not what the baseline is meant for. I think they get too caught in the benchmarks from how crazy powerful these chips are that they lose perspective on who the target audience of these laptops are for.

Does it mean it’s better to upgrade ram than ssd for longevity of your device? I’m planning to get M1 Pro 16 and thinking if I should upgrade ram to 32gb or upgrade ssd to 1tb. Any suggestion regarding for the lifespan of a machine

@@colin6711if you’re going to upgrade anything, you should upgrade the RAM first. You can always use external SSDs if you run out of space but you can’t add more RAM later. And, yes, having more RAM will theoretically limit the amount of swap memory used, thus limiting SSD degradation over time. But this really isn’t something the average consumer should worry about. It’s far more likely that other components of the laptop will fail long before the SSD is ever an issue

If you want to have 32GB of memory you need to choose M1 Max processor. The price goes really high. You cannot have M1 Pro and 32 GB. Otherwise i don’t have any issues with 16GB of unified memory as for now. It’s always better to have more memory for the future. Btw i know that this mac uses its internal ssd to help RAM memory. I’m opening like millions of applications and everything works smoothly 😎

Well i don’t own iPad 12.9 M1 so i can’t really compare. I suppose that they have more space to put better sound in the computer than in smaller iPad. I would say that MacBook’s sound should be better ;)

Have you encountered the problem when the battery goes from 20% to 11% within a few minutes and then it completely shutdown with your Mac ? Mine dropped pretty hard from 20 to 11 and then I shut down without anything too extensive being used though . I'm really worried about my Mac battery

No, my battery is OK. Even on 1% it works just fine. I advice you to check with Apple, I suppose you still have warranty on your machine. They will replace your computer for free in this case - after making a diagnostic of course. For the price you paid your computer should be PERFECT! Btw I replaced my old MacBook Pro 4 times because every time I had a problem with keyboard. They just gave me a new Mac - same model ;) If you have warranty you should not worry. Apple will replace your device!

I just bought this exact configuration, after watching M2 MacBook Pro reviews. M1 is plenty powerful enough for me and in some ways is better than M2.
