MacBook Pro backplate removal

How to take the backplate cover off MacBook Pro, and how to put it back on again. Hope this video is useful to someone there.
Please note, for this particular model, we have three groups of screws which are different from each other. The two screws towards the hinges are the tallest, the two screws towards the front corners may look similar but they are shorter. The two screws toward the middle front are the shortest. Do not mix, remember to put back each group to its original location.
Special thanks to my best friend Atef G. for giving me the old RAM tip, long time ago, using heat gun to take the ICs off, file one end, to use as a professional tool to gently remove bezel and covers off. This is very good for laptops and AIO computers. The RAM board material is strong and yet gentle for such delicate jobs.

Thank you! This was much more complicated than my previous macbook of 2011, which I just had to unscrew. Without your guidance I would not be able to do it. I used a steel ruler if it will help anyone. And I almost gave up at one point 😊 Those side locks (clamps) are the most complicated ones. Just pull harder. Once you release them, it's easy. I was able to clean my baby 😊 Thanx again! ❤

Thank you so much! My macbook was overheating and i found out there were layers of dust caked under the backplate. This saved my macbook!

the macbook i have has 8 screws and when i try to take off the backplate it is giving me quite a bit of resistance, is it supposed to be like this ?

Yes, resistance is expected. What I do is to try to be firm but at same time slow and gentle until the back comes off. You will notice some resistance while I was opening the one in this video.

im trying to remove my backplate but it wont budge. I can't even slip anything under it to keep it propped open

My apology for the late response. You need to be patient and gentle while firmly trying to slip the backplate. Just ensure that you have all screws out. Best!

😮It is not so hard, it is just a tight fit. If you work firmly but gently to pull the cover out, it will come out as seen in the video. Best!

Definitely it wasn't M2, but I think if you are careful enough and paying attention to the little detail differences, if any, steps to take it apart should work for either.
