Question sir. I'm a long time fan. . . Macbook pro mid 2012 white screen on start up. I thought it was the HD cable. . . Changed it. Still nothing. Next I changed the drive. Still not finding a drive. When I attempted to restore mac os I can't find a drive to download it onto. What is the issue?

For the dude going in on the criticisms while blocking anyone from replying to his comments... 1) Miles of wire I have that does the job > wire I have to go out and buy and wait for. 2) "Proper" tweezers? As in.. it is improper to use one's preference? Angled tweezers are a pain in the ass. I have at least five pairs of them here, not as sturdy when I want to grab and shove something where I want it as the straight ones. 3) I could have used a chiseled tip, but didn't feel like changing the tip. This entire job is meant to take about 1 minute. From replacing resistors, capacitors, chip, and running jumper wire. It was going to be miserable regardless of the tip I chose to use, since I can't see or look at what I am doing anyway. I realized this going in, but kept the camera in so one could see troubleshooting from beginning to end. If beating your chest on all the crap you would have done differently makes you feel better, feel free to do so, but do realize how lame this is when the entire reason this job was a nightmare was so that I could post it for others to watch and learn something about motherboard fault troubleshooting. Really, ask yourself how you would do soldering looking up into a TV with half a second of input lag on its HDMI port..

Honestly, the beginning part where you go through testing the power lines, but actually showing how to do it is super helpful for the new guy. I feel like a lot of that gets quickly mentioned but never fully explained and that's why people have a hard time getting started. It's embarrassing to ask where the red probe goes when you know nothing, but putting in those beginning basic steps are so much more helpful than I think you think they are. I don't know maybe that's just me, I don't usually comment anyway, but great video.

Justin Millman The problem with most teachers is they have forgotten what it is like to be clueless. As a result, they leave out all the parts they think you should already know.

I hear that, you do something a 1000 times, and you forget that even the easy parts weren't common sense at one point.

I think the same is true of teaching in elementary school level, and with parenting. It is easy for adults to forget what it was like to be a kid, the same way it is easy for a professor to forget how difficult it was to learn the first time around.

Hi Louis, I've been watching your videos lately because my old macbook pro was damaged by liquid a couple of months ago. I ended buying new macbook pro. But after watching your videos and trying some of your diagnostic methods. I found that the only thing that was broken with my old MP is the display!! I fixed it. Now I have two Macbook Pros. Cool in a way but, also expensive.

Hey Luis maybe a bit late but Since I dabbed with Camera repairs.. Those lenses are not fixed, most of those cameras have a screw on type lens which you can turn in and out to change focus range. Take the camera appart and check the lens mount screw Assembly to see if you can pull in out out to match the Microscope. You can also build a DIY riser for the Camera on the Microscope . Good luck I have fixed many Go Pro's due to the lens being on too tight from factory.

Louis your videos are really great and I see that you give your maximum for explaining thinks and I appreciate that really, a small tip will be for example as you explain something in the scheme with the mouse I cannot see the mouse for what you talk, so if it is possible for making the mouse visible that would be great, but if not of course there is no problem because so and so we profit from you a lot. Thanks again

Your videos are quite helpful, some comments are from novice persons that have no or little electronic knowledge & should study a bit.

Hello Louis, I happen to run across this video searching for why the Macbook Pro wouldn't turn on. On another KZfaq channel someone led to using jumpers across the power pads. That didn't work. After seeing your video I checked the power on the fuses with my volt-meter on the logic board. No power across the fuses, but I do have power on the board connected to the power supply. My guess is that one of the fuses is toasted unless there's a regulator IC chip that's causing the issues? Microelectronics...man you need a needlepoint soldering iron!

At 19:00, rather than using a wire, is it not possible to scrape away some of the insulation on the trace and then solder onto the exposed trace to create a new pad?

Following your videos with interest. I have a similar fault but no water damage. I get a green light on charging lead but no power up. Now I'm trying to learn so working my way through the Supply voltages from the schematic and reached the PP5v-S5-LDO. This is fluctuating between 3.9v to 5.v on cap C7273. Is my next stage to check the rails that PP5V-S5_LDO supplies like PP5v_S5_tpad, PP5v_S5_p1v5ddrfet, PP5v_S5_p5vsusfet? Any help much appreciated

Hey I have a iMac 5K Late 2014 and it was not starting up. I gave it to Apple service center and they say that my Power supply and Mother Board is faulty and I will have to pay $1000 to get it repaired. Now since its already 5 year old I don't wanna spend $1000 on it now. Can I get my faulty Motherboard and Power supply repaired? Thanks in advance :)
