What's a dual grit edge, you may ask?
Think: high performance aggressive knife edge!!! This brand new method for versatile razor sharp knives is fast, easy, and leads to edge retention increases of up to 50% in some tasks! Watch my tutorials to quickly learn innovative hand sharpening techniques with wet stone, diamond plate, & honing strop.
The dual grit method is a specific method for sharpening one side of the edge coarse and the other fine: • Part 2: Coarse & Smoot...

In 1959, I was 10 years old. My cousin was in the Navy, (he had like 7 stripes or something), and he went to Guam for a year. When he came back he gave me 1942, new in the box in cosmolin, machete right off the ship. Still have that bad boy, my fav fool around tool, and I am now 74... Also still have a canteen he gave me that we still use when hunting. They made good stuff in the old, old days.....:>)

I'm absolutely with Junior on this one, he made a lot of sense with his explanation. Tactana it is. Oh it was just great fun swinging that katana around and samourai your way through the day hahaha. I wish you a very Merry Christmas with the family Gabe.

I have them all. If I had to choose absolutely just one to have on me for every possible task that covers all the bases well enough...AND, I have appropriate level of clothing, gear, and proper rated sleeping bag for the conditions and Temps.... 18" Tramontina, wood handle machete hands down. Its toughness and versatility can't be beat while still being lightweight. And it's a heck of a chopper if you know how to chop properly with a machete.

That Tactana just blows chunks off that gorse and weeds.....wow awesome !!!!! (also Lazlos choice 😅).....was half expecting a hatchet gang called the Crazy 88's to take you on half way through the vid 🤣🤣🤣...I must say though BIG respect to the common old Tramontina as it was actually a close one and shows us that a $10 machete doesnt fare too badly against an almost $400 tactana....Awesome video once again Gabe 👍

Lazlo, too dang cute. Proud papa there. Nice vid. Butter works to remove sap too. Not sure if that is commonly known. Just let it set on it for 30 seconds or so. Looking forward to more tests. Not sure if grind angle will prevent damage when hitting dirt, but 19 is pretty steep.IMHO. I do think you’re right that 22 would be better. Good luck friend.

Thanks! Laz did great 😊 I appreciate the input on edge angle. I’ve never done controlled angle sharpening on these big boys before - it’s new territory for me, and I appreciate any input I can get.

Hey Gabe.....Lazlo looks happy and healthy....a blessing for sure! As for the edges for machete, do you think a convex edge would perform better?

Your own family is the most beautiful thing that can happen to you in life. Your son apparently has a lot to say. Sometimes it is better to listen without giving substance. The new generation is coming to bring something that our generations don't know about. All you can do is be a good and loving father.

@@homeslicesharpening I have a question, how long do your kitchen knives stay sharp?
@homeslicesharpening
@homeslicesharpening Жыл бұрын
@@computeronzin Depends on sharpening method, but the Wusthof I notice needs sharpening every 4-6 months (depending on how much I’ve kept up on stropping). The Victorinox paring knives are not sharp as long, but they get abused a little more. I’d say they need a new edge every 2-3 months to keep them where I’m enjoying the edge.

I have a Golok (Martindale Crocodile) that I spent a week or so putting a slight convex on the edge. It works well for chopping, and I sharpened 5cm near the handle to a fine edge for 'detail' work. I've had it for years and I've wrapped that 'self-sticking' silicon tape around the handle to make it a bit grippier. One day I'll make a sheath for it and use it more. I hope you and the family have a great Christmas, mate.

Those are awesome! I had a friend who said he made a sheath for that exact knife very easily by getting some old fire hose from the local station and cutting and sewing it - fit perfectly apparently! I hope to try one someday!

Have you ever seen//owned/used a Swedish brush axe? (The kind with the hoop like a hacksaw) They seem like they'd solve a lot of the problems that are coming up in this series. As an added plus, they come in Swedish (Sandvik?) steel - and the blades are replaceable, so there's a lot of opportunity for experimentation. The hoop appears to keep the blade under spring tension, which would alleviate the edge rippling seen in thin cleavers, and I suspect you'd get better energy transfer to the material being cut.

When I was in the Air Force I attended a jungle survival school (twice), in Panama. I took the machete along for the ride, and my forever Bill Bagwell bowie, (10")... Used the machete all the time and hardly any use for the Bowie.....Ya gimme a machete any day..Just saying...We honed them every night with river rocks the teacher piccked up for us..Kinda worked, I guess 200 grit???

Hey bro, welcome to the channel. I use a little GoPro style camera (pretty low budget at the moment. I also used to export video with a cheaper software. I’ve noticed problems with the sharpness, especially head mounted shots and I’m now trying to do more shots from Tripod. Also upgraded my video software for better video compression/clarity. Anyway, short answer “Maybe so - I’m working on it, should be better in future videos.” Cheers bro, have a good day.
