A quick tutorial on how to sew applique shapes to a background using a blanket stitch or zig-zag stitch.
Stitch out a test piece before you start. I write down the stitch number, width, and length settings right on the fabric.
For either Blanket Stitch or Zig Zag:
1. Open toe embroidery foot
2. Size 14 universal needle
3. 40 wt. Aurifil thread top and bottom
4. Needle down helpful.
5. Slow machine speed to about half speed
6. Stabilize the background behind the applique.
7. Use a tear-away or wash away stabilizer.
8. Start where two applique shapes intersect.
9. The needle goes down into the background, just next to the shape.
10. Adjust on curves with the needle down on the outside edge.
11. Needle down at the corner, lift presser foot, and pivot.
