Welcome to the Machine Quilting Block Party, an interactive quilt along where you can learn how to make your first quilt one block at a time!

Great video, thanks! Have you retired your Juki? Noticed you have changed to Bernina. Love to have your machine pros/cons.

The Juki needed to be serviced and I love my Bernina 1230 so much it made sense to try filming on it. The feet are awesome, the stitch quality is always dependable. I do wish the harp space was bigger, but other than that, it's a terrific machine for piecing and quilting.

Thank you for sharing your quilting around applique flower block. I wish I had seen it before I started quilting my blocks. I have them a bit tighter.Is that alright? I have left the applique pieces free from quilting is that alright too?

I'm glad you've found my videos! Yes, it's just fine to quilt more in the background and less over the appliques. I would at least outline quilt the applique so you can see the shape on the front and back of the quilt (it looks great that way) and it will ensure that area has the minimum amount of quilting needed so the batting doesn't shift.

have not been able to get freezer paper, so using printer paper; but when I do my stitches are loose and uneven; practice sandwich, without paper is fine. Could it be as simple as the paper?

Yes, that could be messing you up instead of helping you. I'd quilt without the paper and use a lightbox to mark instead.

I enjoy your tutorial but I downloaded this pattern was I suppose to get the feather design that goes in the middle with the download because it didn't come through. If not where can I get it for my quilt thanks

Thank you for this. I have been quilting for years (self taught,trial and error) and have always done stitch in the ditch quilting. I have been wanting to learn this. I thought you said there was access to the pattern transfer?

How come you don’t cut off your thread ends to get them out of your way so you don’t have to keep moving them 😊

I don't cut my thread tails because I like to tie them off and bury them properly in the middle layer of the quilt. You can find a detailed video and the needles that make this very quick and easy here - leahday.com/products/cheater-needles
