This video is the FOURTH in a series of many videos on identifying common metals. Some of these metals are ELEMENTS, but most useful metals are alloys of two or more elements.
The first several videos will cover the 25 common metallic ELEMENTS followed by the ALLOYS including some with trademarked names.

At 7:23 you demonstrate how to *not close* a hunting case pocket watch. One press in the button you use to open it, then with the button still depressed close the cover. After the cover is closed, then you should release the button. This is to prevent the latch from wearing out the catch which is made of gold and as you pointed out earlier is extremely malleable.

Lead inhibits the growth of tin whiskers in solder. Without lead, whiskers can grow from solder joints at a rate of up to 1mm/yr. The whiskers are conductive which can lead to short circuits and intermittent operation faults. Scientists do not yet fully understand why lead inhibits the growth of tin whiskers, yet legislation like RoHS requires that circuits in consumer products be lead free. Just thought i'd share that tidbit of info. Enjoyed the video! -jc

The company I work for services steel mill continuous casters as its core business. We do a lot of work for what used to be the Rouge Steel plant, which is the steel making part of what was the Ford Rouge plant. Sometime in the late 90's or the early 2000's they went into bankruptcy and was bought out by the Russian Severstal corporation. It is now called Severstal Dearborn. My employer used to be a part of U.S. Steel, now it is a German company. Foreign corporations pretty own the U.S. today.

Tubalcain, would it be possible to include in this or a new segment on different types of steel and their uses. Eg: Mild steel, rolled steel, high tensile, high speed, carbon steel just to name a few. There would be nothing worse than making something out of mild steel when you should have used High tensile steel and it was to fail at the wrong time or place.

I've invested in the "gold you never see" and the company I used allowed me to trade any time of the day or night at market price for any other commodity from other currencies, to silver and precious metals, and then wire transfer the money to me once I'm done. The only time I lost money was on the $20 wire transfer fee to my bank account. It was a really good company and good experience.

According to the website Metal Detecting Forum, lustrium is a mixture of nickel and chromium. It comes in two varieties, much like gold: yellow and white.

Tubalcain, Thanks for all your effort on YT. Being a plumber for enough years to have worked with lead, your information on lead is my favorite as well. I have read (not on the internet); lead could be mined and tooled directly out of the earth. It was the first metal used as a weapon. It may have been used before bronze. Perhaps because it could not hold an edge, and is not robust like other's, it does not get due credit. Thanks! Lead Hammer

quality video dude. with your level of detail it might be worth making a separate video for each element/metal and put the metal name in the title.

@6:26 The bogus metal that Josten's ring co sells is called Lustrium; you won't find that on any periodic table... I tried to figure out once what it was made of, but couldn't find any information on it on their website or anywhere else on the internet.

You forgot lead glass, "crystal". Also lead was found in gasoline to improve resistance to detonation (partially due to low quality gasoline it was added thethra-ethil plumbium - lead, TEL) nowadays the gasoline have to be more refined (to improve the octane number straight from refinery) and add ethil alcohol at some % (5-10-30, that's a lot, while lead thetraethil was added like less than 1%, a cup of that for a whole tanker truck).

Its Funny Western History Is SO wrong as twisted when It comes to the History Of Persia and India. India was a part of Persian Enpire for over 400 years, and many things which Persian are proved of for being the first ones to produce in the western world it jumps and use India as name of the country!! Not that matters. 4 times Persian took Roman kings, and one time the Persian king Darush the third ( I think it was) didn't kill the Roman King, but made his solders make a gail for him in todays Kurdistan/Kermanshah.... Just something interesting if you like history...
