Mackerel from the rocks- Catch, clean and cook!

Back down at St Abbs for this one. Targeting Mackerel in some deep water rock marks with feathers. Bit of a catch and cook after the fishing where I go through the process of getting fillets off the fish and how I like to cook them. Ended up with a few nice fish which will be used for bait over the winter.

I just found your channel and liked it so much I subscribed, I used to fish Blackness but it is like the saying on the graphics on the stone, it really is and the locals are very, I wont say for my dear Mother used to tell me if you can't say something nice say nothing at all. Can you do a catch and cook at the water as I always used to enjoy the challenge and the taste of fish straight from the sea.

Great wee video mate and nice to see the catch , clean and cook 👍 i was at a mark not to far from there last week , knew as soon as i got there that thed be plenty of fish around as the birds were feeding on the balls of bait fish 😁 30g metal and it was a fish a cast 🎣 plenty for the freezer for winter bait and a few cut into strips and done in a tempura batter and dipped in sweet chili sauce 🤤🤤

That sounds amazing. I hadn't thought of trying mackerel battered and deep-fried but now I have it's gone straight to the top of my to do list. what an idea 👍

@@UntouchedFishing not been fishing a lot recently, did do a bit of bread fishing yesterday and the and the day before, caught a couple perch, nothing to exiting, need to to a bit for lure fishing, but it’s very weedy and almost every cast you pull out some weeds

Appreciate that man. Sounds like a plan to me. Has to be worth getting a few for the winter/ spring. As you know you could easily get a years worth of bait down there in a couple hours. 👍

Great fishing bud ..Nice makkies but if a travelled all the way to st abbs from glasgow mackerel would be the last fish a would be hunting for..what about the cod wrasse and pollock .coelys lol anyway well done hope u enjoyed the fish ❤

That is very true, already put out a couple of vids of me fishing for the cod and pollock down there so thought I’d mix it up a little with mackerel. I’ll be back down there for pollock and cod again soon. Cheers for the feedback 👍

IMHO if you hook one stop winding and use the movement of the ones online to get a full house of mackerel...

instead of using a weight on the bottom bang yourself a small spinner on . got more chance and may pick up a bass or pollock. sick vid !

Great video, well done mate! However, may I politely suggest that rather than just banging their head on the rocks 4 or 5 times to kill them it is easier, quicker, cleaner and more "humane" to hold them upside down with one hand and with the other hand just put your thumb in their mouth and with the test of your fingers just behind their heads snap the head downwards and backwards so that it breaks their neck. This, with practice can be done very very quickly (In a matter of just 2 seconds or so) and looks more "professional" and humane, especially if bystanders are watching with their children. After all we all know that there are plenty of people around that will go out of their way to find fault with and field sports, including fishing! (Please note, I have not mentioned this to fault you in any way, just to try to help you out) The simplistic way that you cooked them really is so perfect for FRESH mackerel (As yours were). Just cook them up the way that you did and serve them with a thick slice of crusty buttered bread - Yummy! P.S. Nice to see someone using a trusty Opinel knife!

Thank you for the suggestion Pete. I completely agree with your point about dispatching the fish. I hadn't realised doing that technique was effective, i will definitely be doing that in the future. ah yes the opinel, that knife has been with me for getting on 10 years now and its still going flawlessly.
