Macro photography: Six AWESOME ideas to try at home

These six easy macro ideas can be done at home with minimal fuss making them great projects for beginners or experts to play around with to help boost your creativity or even learn some new skills. I show the lighting, the settings, the compositions and the Lightroom and Photoshop editing I use to get some dramatic, creative images from home.

You have made to go back my school days. Where we use sparkle oil paint droplets on tray of water and run the table fane at a lower level and just dip a metal sheet or hand made paper to get different patterns. Thanks for project ideas. I will also give a try.

Great video that gave me a lot of ideas! BTW your "oil and water" segment just reinvented 1960s light shows!

With Bubbles, take them outdoors in the rain (so they persist). Make giant bubbles (20 cm dia). Use them to record reflective images within their swirl of colors of other objects like people, pets, buildings, and nature. This is something I did to great effect back in the 1980s. You can get some very interesting images with this technique.

Loving your videos!! Could you list the tools and links online for purchase. It would help new macro photographers figure out what affordable tools to get to do these projects. Such as that clamp tool!

The Clamp tool i would buy from a hardware store, its cheaper if it is not for "Photography" :-D

One more: Many of us have hobbies other than photography that can provide macro photos pleasing mostly to others who share our hobbies. This goes way beyond just recording collectables with driver's license grade images. My hobby is different from yours but our craft can make interesting and beautiful photos that look closely, very closely, at the details that we find interesting.

I love your project ideas! BUT, you expect that your viewers have knowledge of Photoshop. Regret I don’t - maybe 2024 will be the year I learn enough of PS to use it in my photos. In the meantime, it’s “in camera” only!
