Yes, we should pander to murderous bastards & adjust our morals according to the self-serving expedient of cowardly self-preservation & economic self-enrichment. See how using Globalist neo-liberal Race-To-The-Bottom excuses to destroy the middle class in democratic countries has succeeded in transforming fascist Autocracies into becoming champions of democratic change & like-minded allies aligned with our worldview of peace & prosperity for all nations & peoples. 😛😛😛🔫

But some countries/people ARE on the good side, and some ARE on the bad side. Russia is on the bad side - no, actually, Russia IS the bad side. It's a terrorist country that invaded a peaceful country for no reason. I could list a million other horrible things it did. I'm not going to RESPECT a terrorist country like Russia, which inflicts unimaginable amounts of pain on innocent Ukrainians, and is responsible for endless suffering in the world. And it is my opinion that nobody should respect Russia. Respect is not something you just randomly give out, it's has to be earned. Russia certainly has not earned even a silver of it.

As an Englishman who has lived in Germany for 56 years and speak both English and German fluently, I have always been disturbed about many people here are reluctant to speak English correctly. There is term for German English, Denglish. Even in schools they are taught incorrect pronunciation. Thed worst example is saying e for an a, so a cat becomes a cet, bad becomes bed etc.Yet if people listen to singers often enough they hear the correct pronunciation. I worked for Xerox and one time when a representative from the US visited Düsseldorf on an important matter, I had to interpret because he could not fully understand Denglish. President Macron speaks excellent English, a big complement from me.

Wow.. Macron has changed so much through the years, as a Danish European, I'm really proud of having a leader in Europe like Macron. He understands the current political situation in the world with equality and the climate. What is actually beautiful about this war and it's the only thing of course, is how much connected we all are on this planet, a war happening in Ukraine is hurting everyone and we are all forced to work together. What Macron said about countries like China and India, we all have to be on the same side, and we as the West have to understand them, keep in mind we are not perfect, and only those 2 countries together are more than 2 billion people on our planet. We have to make plans to help other countries build up, and not only think about our own development but together as people. Right now the sad reality is that the rich countries really don't care about poor countries staying poor, and we probably won't do anything about Russia when Putin is defeated, it will stay poor till the next mad leader gets to power.

Russia doesn't care about people in east Ukraine. What Putin wants is to expand Russia to restore Soviet territories like a delusional dream and seize more territories and their ressources and strategic position. He is using eastern Ukraine people, using their partially Russian culture, feeding them with anger and weapons to weaken Ukraine as a society. As long as the pro Russian government in Ukraine have been removed in 2014, the political war was lost by Russia and they start the military one, seizing Crimea. There is a huge gap between the legitimate will of the fraction of the Ukrainian that have a pro Russian culture background to be respected and the cynical military invasion of a country to seize its land and ressources under false reasons that are always changing without making sense : NATO claims then NAZI claims the eastern Ukrainians protection claims, ... It is just delusionnal.

Macron was more cogent than I've seen most North American politicians ever be. All of this while not speaking in his mother tongue. Direct answers while being diplomatic beats trite talking points by far.

I always respected the way Macron worked with Trump... With the same approach he speaks about how he tries to talk to Putin...i personally don't think Trump deserved the respect, but he was one of the only people who was somewhat able to talk to Trump about more progressive issues, whilst still having Trump's attention and "respect". Macron is a great diplomat for the crazies.

Making an attempt to speak with autocrats is commendable, but after a point you aren't going to get very far. Putin had already an ingrained prejudice against the West from his days in the KGB. Talking to Putin is different from talking with Trump, but just about as fraught with obstacles to communication. For Trump everything was a transaction - you do something for me and I'll do something for you.

It's really refreshing to hear a politician talk conversationally and rationally. He says "look, not everyone thinks the way we think, we have to respect that." If only we had that mindset before we tried to force democracy on countries that don't want it. But now, we have a chance to work through differences. I'm cautiously optimistic.

Agreed - his emphasis on respect for India, China, Africa and even Russia was striking; I can’t remember hearing a western world leader speak like that before. I feel quite embarrassed because it never even occurred to me until Biden’s speech the other day that Africa has no representatives at the highest levels of the UN. That’s SO messed up. Also, I think that the twin failures of Iraq and Afghanistan have taught the USA and UK a valuable lesson regarding the imposition of democracy: it cannot work unless the people want it, and understand / work out how to make it work for their culture and society. It’s pretty mad that it’s taken many of us until now to realise this, seeing as the USA needed two wars almost a century apart before their democracy fully stabilised, and in the UK it took us over 700 years to get from first steps (Magna Carta) to full democracy. And even now, people’s freedoms and protections are not fully secure in either country. I was taught as a child to see the world as being divided between ‘free’ and ‘unfree’. I now realise that was wrong. It’s not a binary divide: it’s a sliding scale. As January 6th so terrifyingly demonstrated, the scale can tip towards ‘unfree’ VERY fast. We’ve all got to participate in our democracies and exercise our rights as much as we can, or they will be taken from us. Sorry that got so long - was thinking out loud as it were.

i am sure, people in every country wants democracy, unless they are brainwashed by some propoganda, like in north korea. Its the tyrant leaders of those countries, who has stolen all the power and money of their country, that dont want democracy, because then they will loose it. How could a saint human being not want to have rights?

@@stan-malogesnel8397 In no way was I talking about his policies. He's well spoken for someone not speaking his native tongue, explained his thoughts on his interactions with Putin well and gave us Americans another perspective. He didn't mention French politics nor do we hear about it much here. I'm sorry to hear that is happening in France, as we have identical issues. My comment was only addressing his eloquence and alternate perspective. Politically it sounds like he is doing what politicians do worldwide. 🤷
