11:21 As teenager, this one shot made me question .. "How did they do this?.. a bit of hong kong wire work magic?" And to know soon after, it was as seen.. in camera... a mis-calculated stunt, where no one died...... It is without doubt, some of the best real , in camera frames in action history.

I had grown up with the cut for TV version in the 80s as that us where we recorded our copy. That stunt was missing along with several others. After finally seeing it years later on a rented VHS copy. I was blown away how amazing it all really was.

As a pre-teen kid in the 1980s, I perused all the cartoons and film advertisements in the Sunday Los Angeles Times entertainment section (it was quite an extensive section of the very massive paper). The film adverts included quotes from all the film critics around the country and my favorite quote to this day was for 'The Road Warrior' (which, as is common knowledge by now, was the name for 'Mad Max 2' in the US since the original 'Mad Max' film never really had wide release here). I do not recall the critic's name, but the quote was, 'The final chase scene in Road Warrior makes the chariot race from Ben Hur seem like a square-dance'. Sums it up in an EPIC way...

Just discovered this video, VERY well done! I'd known that most of the vehicles had been scrapped, but didn't know the F100 snake truck survived; good on the owner not restoring it. Also very interesting to know the 2nd Mack was ultimately sold by the dealer. While probably gone, talk about an epic find if it exists!

Glad you mentioned the Italian and Filipino rip-off B-movies. In fact they're some of my favourite action B-movies. Although none of them come anywhere near the vehicular carnage of 'Mad Max 2'. The closest was probably Italian B-movie 'Exterminators of The Year 3000' which did it's best to re-create the final tanker chase, but on a much lower budget.

This was great! Thank you. I watched and studied this sequence many times, almost obsessively, once I gained a copy of the film. I had a number of questions that still bothered me. What happened to the "Bearclaw Mohawk" character? The red Monaro also disappears just before the end, and is not seen among the small number of vehicles that turn back. I thought it was great that the Ford Snake truck, one of the most menacing and destructive of the wasteland vehicles, survives the final chase. I'm glad not all the major villains had to be eliminated in a Hollywood-like resolution. Another survivor is a black buggy with a red cross on its nose, seen much earlier in the film during the "Greetings from the Humungus" scene.

Great breakdown thanks! I always wondered why, after they finally got the rig to crash and stop, everyone just turns and rides away. They didn't know it was full of dirt at that point did they? I mean, after all that, they probably could use some gas...

Remember hearing that Miller had spoken to the guy who rolled the Mack tanker about a year before and asked how easy it was to roll one. Not realising why Miller was asking he’d replied that it was easy and blokes did it most Saturday nights. He then suddenly gets a call saying they’re ready for him to come out and perform the rollover. He’d never done anything like it before and on the first attempt it didn’t roll, fortunately the cameras weren’t filming. Second time it all worked perfectly.

I heard They only had one chance to roll the truck as they only had one truck and it would cost too much to get another. There’s a few glitches in the wreck though
@CycolacFan
@CycolacFan Жыл бұрын
@@roadwolf2 I’m pretty sure they did only had one Mack prepped for the stunt, which involved removing everything from the cab and putting a large cage behind it since they were concerned the tanker might come loose and tear the cab off the chassis.

Thought the same thing. Made more character sense. He was already built and bald and was the right size, and it was a good arch for him. From going to a captain believing in bringing back heroes, to becoming the thing he fought against. Plus it made sense with all those extra cops in the gang how he brought them with him.

@@MFPMapFilmProductions Thank you for your extensive research into The Mad Max Saga . I've always thought Lord Humongous was Fefe , and vehemently defended my observation , much to the dismay of my friends who were also fans of the film . I saw Road Warrior @ The 8th St. Playhouse in Greenwich Village in New York City in '82 . I dragged as many people I could convince that they're missing out on the greatest action movie of our time . They agreed I was right on that note , but had not seen Mad Max , which went into re-release with the success of Road Warrior . When the VHS releases became available , the great debate began , and continues to this day . Only wish I could get closure on that score .
