Not only is it an animation milestone, it also made more people aware of Madagascar's existence and its wildlife and why it's so important to protect them. Deforestation is still an ongoing issue there and it's eroding the island's precious and unique biodiversity. Nature is a beautiful thing. Nature is the purest portal to inner-peace

I don’t get why people dislike this movie, let alone this franchise so much. Despite not being as smart or emotional as Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, and How to Train Your Dragon, Madagascar is still fun for the whole family. I mean, how can u not love King Julien?

*SO* glad they didn't go for the overused "liar revealed" trope and instead had the dramatic focus be on Alex losing himself to his newfound wild instincts. Props to DreamWorks for doing that in a time when "liar revealed" plots were *EVERYWHERE* in animated films.

Agreed. I consider the Madagascar films one of DreamWorks' best franchises. If Shrek started their signature brand of humor, this film perfected it. While Pixar at the time was supplying strong emotion with their movies, Madagascar was a rare gem from DreamWorks that supplied very strong humor as much as the first two Shreks. It truly is a milestone in comedy and animation.

I agree. People are way too harsh on this brilliant franchise!
@williehampton3855
@williehampton3855 Жыл бұрын
@@n19ntendods What makes it brilliant is that it tells a simple straightforward narrative. The movie asks the question "What would happen if a bunch of zoo animals, born and bred in captivity, were accidentally shipped off to the wild? Ironically, how would they survive?" That question gave us a beautiful answer 3 sequels and a spin-off later. I say 3 because there's still that possibility of Mad 4 happening.

I'm so happy that people are finally realizing just how good this movie actually was. Not only is this my favorite DreamWorks movie but honestly it's my favorite movie of all time. The characters and relationships they have with each other felt so strong and real like you could tell they all grew up with each other and are essentially a non-biological family. The animation attempted to replicate the 2d style of animation with 3d years before hotel transylvania did and cloudy with a chance of meatballs which is something that it does indeed deserve more credit for and overall you can tell that everyone working on this film had an amazing time with it. It's not perfect but it deserves way more love and respect then it gets

I don't blame Marty for falling in love with Grand Central. Used to live in Westchester and took the Metro North to Grand Central often. Now living on Long Island, I've had to deal with Penn Station and how much of a dump it has been. Though I'm glad the state has finally realized shoving people into a basement isn't how you should welcome tourists to one of the world's most famous cities, starting with Moynihan Train Hall's opening in 2021. The original Penn Station went from a majestic terminal that rivaled Grand Central in 1910, to brutal demolition the 60s in favor of Madison Square Garden. This spearheaded the preservation movement. Grand Central almost had the same fate as the original Penn but was saved by Jackie Kennedy. With East Side Access bringing the LIRR to Grand Central, safe to say it is a change many New Yorkers like myself are thankful for. And as a NY Giants fan, the fact the Madagascar creatures stan the Giants too is extremely based.

I always got a good laugh from the 'Chariots of Fire' moment and was intrigued by the Alex's arc ever since I first saw this film. The franchise's animal designs also always fascinated me, due to their bizarre shapes and proportions. Before I learned about their classic cartoon influence, I felt the art style had an appealing children's book vibe to it; still works great either way. While it might not seem as deeply written as Kung Fu Panda or How to Train Your Dragon, the Madagascar series remains special to me. And the first film is certainly a classic. The strength of this movie for me is the characters and comedy. I love every character in this movie and the 4 main leads have such a nice camaraderie. And the comedy manages to hit a lot of times. The animation is a bit of a coin flip. I can see why some people might find the hyperactive moment a bit too much, but they do work well with the comedy for me. And the story does seem unfocused by changing between two plots and I normally hate unfocused films like Despicable Me 3 or Secret Life of Pets 2, but thankfully it didn’t bother me here because they do connect with each other. And I feel like everything following the first film is still really great. But the first film will always be a DreamWorks favorite for me. 9/10

Comedy ruled the film scene of the early 2000s, the golden age of comedy, and Madagascar and Sherk hit a good time, but then in the 2010s comedy went out of fashion and films were wanted to be more serious, actious and adventurous and that started the decline of both series. They also failed to regenerate and adapt to the new fashion norm dominated by superheroes because they and their glamor and charm were based on comedy that made them so good and memorable.

I remember when I was around the same age as Mat and I ate this movie right up (along with Dreamworks movies in general as they firmly established themselves as the comedy-based company)! I agree that the movie still does hold up very well, even though I'm not quite sure if I personally would give it a 9/10! But it was a great ride to get us on board with the characters, and have me engaged with their sequels! (Speaking of, it's hard to believe that it's already been a full decade since the trilogy with the main four wrapped up!) As for the upcoming review of 'Wallace and Gromit: the Curse of the Warerabbit', I sure am glad that Mat's moving forward on the Dreamworks movie timeline rather than backward towards 'Shark Tale' (though unfortunately, I'm sure his time to review that one will be coming someday). But now we also just have the second movie for Mat to review, and his review series of the franchise with be complete!

But, in all seriousness, I personally found this funnier than the first "Shrek". Outside of the comedy, I admire the soundtrack between the 1960s and 1979s, especially with Louis Armstrong's signature song playing at the lowest point of the movie. Regardless how others feel about this, I will always have a fun time with these zoo animals than with the fishes in an underwater city.

You know, now a days, it’s not often I would see a movie that just embraces how silly and fluffy it is and just invite as many people as possible to just roll with it, regardless of the scenario. Thanks for this review, I almost forget that Madagascar really is entertainingly ridiculous. Even then, sometimes you would have to have the right mind and mood to sit though it.

I'm thankful for the movies creating my favorite TV show. The Penguins of Madagascar TV series was my JAM. I was a big fanfic writer for it. That series made Kowalski my favorite penguins. So when the Penguins of Madagascar movie came out, I was a disappointed it wasn't based off the TV series. It was okay, but the TV show gave the penguins so much personality, villains to fight, callbacks to the movie and the comedy was hilarious!

The 1 DreamWorks movie that I'm super curious to hear your review on is Shrek The Third? I mean I heard that critics give it pretty bad reviews & then years later, critics said it can have it's moments. So is Shrek The Third an okay film or is it a BAD film, something to give it the Animat Seal Of Garabage?

Legit, 2022 is the year for Madagascar for me! I remember watching it as a little kid a lot and I’ve been rewatching it a lot this year lately. This is my favorite one out of all 3 in the Madagascar trilogy. I enjoyed majority of what was in this movie (except for when Alex got tranquilized twice, those are the only two scenes I’d remove) and it’s cool seeing 4 African animals end up on the African island Madagascar. I enjoyed Alex and Marty’s friendship and how to me it was the main focus and I SERIOUSLY am glad they actually tackled The issue of Alex being a Lion in a place where he doesn’t know how to catch his own food therefore making him be an actual predator to where he almost eats one of his friends. The characters are memorable and even though the Fossa were the weakest antagonists, they were still a little bit menacing when the movie actually decided to use them (mostly in the climax)and it was fun seeing them getting beaten up by Alex in the climax. This movie in my opinion has one of the best watchable end credits in my opinion with the move it remix to which fun fact, I actually listened too on the day of my graduation, making it my own personal graduation song. So yeah. While not being the best movie DW has made, it’s still very good and anyone who is a new comer to DreamWorks should definitely check this out at some point. Ok, bye. Hope everyone has a good day🌟❤️

As much as I enjoy this film, and how it launched one of my favorite Dreamworks franchises, I personally feel the animation can sometimes be too cartoony and wonky for my liking. Maybe it's because it feels weird for me seeing this animation coming from a CGI animated film, but at the same time, I don't dislike it. I do like how the animation gets a smooth upgrade in the later Madagascar films. Meanwhile, if there's one thing that has stuck out to me all these years, it's the cast of characters. All of them have such great personality and amazing performances by their respective voice actors. This was actually one of my first introductions to Ben Stiller, who voices Alex, which was really cool. Seriously, the characters in this movie are some of the best highlights of not just this movie, but the whole franchise. I especially love the penguins, and how their espionage antics can go hilariously extreme. By the way, good job on your Skipper impression. If the next review is going to be the movie that came after Madagascar, then it looks like we're teaming up with Wallace and Gromit and see how they handle the Curse of the Were-Rabbit. That'll be cool to see. "ALL HAIL THE NEW YORK GIANTS!" ~ King Julien, 2005

I think if Chuck Jones had lived longer, he would have loved and praised this film for its squash and stretch animation style and funny jokes. If he praised Aladdin for its humor, he would have also done the same for Madagascar. I also think another source of inspiration for the film's humor would also come from Mel Brooks' films as most of the jokes are definitely something that would come out of a Mel Brooks film. In fact, if Mel Brooks were to direct an animated film, I think this would be the animated film he'd make. I mean, even the humor in Mel Brooks' films take inspiration from the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies cartoons. So I would definitely include Mel Brooks in the inspirations for the film's humor and style along with Tex Avery, Bob Clampett and Chuck Jones.

I loved this film as a kid. And looking back it was pretty ambitious for its time. With a line of celebrities in the film as well as animation that was pretty impressive for 2000 standards and humor that was a little more geared towards adults. It deserves more respect as being one of the classic Dreamwork’s films.
