I watched this when it first came to the U.S., and always wondered if it would ever come out again. Then came the late 90s, I have my VHS version and now have my dvd set. Plus all my Beatles albums that I have saved over the years. When they first brought it back, I was at the local mall, stepped into Spencer gifts and they were having a clearance sale on all the items they had from the movie, wow did I make out like a bandit!!! Their music will never get old to me. My kids even want my albums too, someday.

The music was genuinely enjoyable, and a couple of jokes made me chuckle ("Dungeons and Wagons"), but I regret to say that the movie overall was entirely too bland and predictable to properly hold my interest. The original Thelma picture books by Aaron Blabey had a much more nuanced and interesting message than *just* "be yourself,* and I wish more of that nuance had been present in the movie (*especially* since I saw reactionaries willfully distorting Thelma's "be your authentic self" moral as a "trans bad" allegory, which is gross). Also, I was honestly annoyed by a joke about a horse who chews cud, because five seconds on a farm or on Wikipedia would tell you that horses aren't bovines. Also, also, am I reading too much into things, or does the weird simp with the German accent who becomes Thelma's "son" have self-harm scars on his arms? Dark joke for a kid's film, eh?

Elke Sommer wasn’t dressed and performing like Marilyn Monroe in the number but like Marlene Dietrich (or maybe Jean Harlow).

The Little Mermaid did so much that was different from all the fairy tale stories Disney told, by fleshing every character out enough for audiences to relate to them and find them interesting. Something that was never done in older movies with princesses and a trend of which continued with every Disney fairy tale movie that followed.

I always thought the reason why Donald is always mad is because of his jealousy on Mickey’s popularity and success 🤔

I didnt think it was that bad tbh. like its not a amazing film but its far from awful or even bad. and as far as sequels go it could have been handled far far worse like at least it wasn't the matrix 4 levels of bad.

Dishonourable Mention has to go to Peaches. She isn’t in the first 3 movies (the actually good ones), but as soon as Continental Drift dropped, even as an 8 year old, I found her so smug, arrogant, obnoxious and unlikeable. And as Schaffrillas described quite well, she is also probably the single most cliche animated character. She has an exchange with Manny which consists of overused teenager cliche line after overused teenager cliche line. She’s just a complete tool most of the movie with absolutely no personality, interesting traits or skills that add to “The Herd”. All she does is subtract.

According to the Ducktales reboot, Donald is always angry because he feels like "the world is out to get him, and no one understands him... quite literally." That's actually pretty reasonable; after all, who gets stuck with all the bad luck? No one but Donald Duck.

3:06 - 3:11 That's not true!! You don't know anything about animals. Learning about animals is always captivating. You are just saying that as a joke. Also, the images for the real penguins that you are using, they are actually gentoo penguins. Damn You!
