In this video I analyze the character and actions of Madara Uchiha, going into why I find his actions during the Fourth Shinobi War as outright antithetical to his ideals and plans.
Thank you very match for watching. Feedback is, as always, very much appreciated!

Before watching the video, i also came to the conclusion that Madara, even if his motives were objectively for the greater good (a world without suffering) as soon as Hashirama appeared, he completely ignored his own plan and immediately started to be excited, agressive and passionate. The man was like Vegeta and even could i dare to say like the coyote and the road runner. His life only had purpose while the "game" lasted.

First off I want to say I really enjoyed the video! It's not often I see people point out that Madara was a hypocrite just that his method was bad. For me Madara's hypocrisy never bothered me because most of the Naruto villains have a blatant disregard for other people and are more concerned with their ideals. To Madara it's not really about saving anyone but proving that his idea of peace is right over Hashirama's. It's just another battle to him. Remember despite how much he dreamed of peace as a child once he was in power he did not go for the peaceful solution until he was completely defeated. Even after that he did nothing on his own to help develop Konoha except going to Iwa to subjugate them. He turns against Konoha after Hashirama listens to Tobirama, Konoha chooses Hashirama, and the Uchiha choose Konoha. He says it's because Konoha will betray the Uchiha one day but he was going to trample them with the rest of Konoha in his attacks and did not care one bit when his and Obito's actions eventually contribute to the Uchiha massacre. His actions and attitude make it clear what the real motivation was: losing/being picked over. Even at the end we learn that Madara knew the tree was going to siphon off everyone's chakra and give it to a single person. His goal the entire time was to make himself more powerful. Peace is just a convienant justification. "It's alright for me to steal everyone's life force cause I'll give them peace in exchange." For me the only question is how much does Madara believe his own bs. The Naruto villains especially the Uchiha ones do not want to admit their own selfish motivations. Madara wants power, Obito wants self delusion, Sasuke's motivation is self harm/isolation, and Pain's is revenge and control. They just want to seem justified and righteous. That's why they can all talk so much about how the world sucks and the system is broken while reveling in the worst parts of it and never trying actions like reaching out to the people they say they want to save.

Excellent analysis. First off, I don't actually remember him stating he knew the tree would siphon the chakra of the people (as in, did he expect for it to kill them or just use them as a sustainable power source?). If you could get me a source on that when you find the time that'd be great, otherwise I'll stumble on it sooner or later. Second, my main point was that this blatant hypocrisy is never narratively or contextually addressed. No character ever brings it up, Hashirama never really chastises Madara for it specifically, Naruto never seriously attempts to Talk no Jutsu him despite this being a potential route to do so and Madara never himself thinks for a moment what the hell he's going to do in a peaceful world where everybody's a bio-battery. If we take away the whole dream-reality thing and Madara was aware he'd be killing all the people on the planet (I really don't believe he was, but the War arc's writing was so messy and it's been so long that I can't say most things with 100% certainty), then just killing everyone outright would have accomplished the same goal, removed the extra steps and actually solidified Madara as the worst antagonist in Naruto (in my eyes). I really hope he didn't actually think he was going to be exterminating the planet, since it'll mean his whole character falls apart.

the majority of the villain turning up to be peacemakers is a late serie retcon..in my other comments i talke about atmosphere but in terms of ideaologies early naruto was about social acceptance and sexual competition between teenagers..lee wanted to prove his '' ninja way '' by fighting strong opponent .. naruto was always jealous of sasuke popularity with girls so he wanted to outperform him..the 3rd hokage was sending kids to the die in the forest of chunin exam to prove they are worthy warriors..the jonins were asking for narutos death after he stole the shadow clone scroll..but the whole show became about friendship and peace ..because the editor made kishimoto force this japanese buddist idealogy of a perfect society by transcanding human desires so by the end everyone is fighting for peace and '' the sins of the past '' of '' the cycle of hatred '' which isnt realistic compared to the early story were fights were about ego and masculinity or poverity or survival ...plus it doesnt fits a fighting story were everything is solved with violence even by the '' good guy '' which the source of the hypocrisy of madara because of the contradiction between his ego and his ideals .. oh wait sorry kishimoto everybody deep down is a good guy apart from hidan and kakuzo the best characters in shippuden

I think I see what you mean. It's an unfortunate side-effect of long-form serializations that their narratives and themes become distilled and simplified. This, I believe, to be in equal amounts due to the very essence of weekly serialization the medium entails together with the constant meddling of editors who want the series to be as marketable and wide-reaching as possible. The creator's vision and personal creative fingerprint tends to get muddled after a while.

@@theoverthinker348 i dont even think the themes were simplified they made a 180 turn..from ' might is right '' and '' you need strength to fight for your ideals and and worth in a society that respects power above all...and by the end it became..'' fighting is bad'' violence is not the answer we just need to understand eachother and talk it out ''

@@theoverthinker348 the first fight of the serie is the demon brothers vs kakashi and sasuke..there was no understanding they went for the kill and were executed by kakashi.. ibiki the torturer from chunin exam ... anko telling naruto he will die first..the fights in zaku and hakus flashbacks....looking back ninjas were introduced as killers for hire not some honorable martial artists..ofc there was a level of respect like between kakashi and zabuza but they still fought seriously yet by the end of the series the average pesonality of the ninja is the complete opposite from the start even some establishe characters were changed like temari for example or ibiki having a comedic scene with karin instead of torturing her
