What do you think of these rental options? Are they worth the price? 🏡Should I make one of them my new home? One thing I'm running into that I meant to elaborate more on in this video is that most of these landlords not only require a 1-year lease, they also want a type of insurance policy (typically costs 45% of a month's rent) PLUS a co-signer who lives in Mexico (which I don't have). Sooooo I'm hoping to find a landlord who's more open-minded to a "traditional" signed lease situation and/or perhaps an alternate arrangement like paying X months of rent in advance. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ We'll see!

The first one is beautiful, but I agree about the construction. That would be a deal breaker. I like the third one best, but would likely choose the second one - I hate the red though.

Maddie, Just my 2-cents of advice about living in CDMX. I lived there for 3 years and was there for the last big earthquake. Look for a place that is, first of all, no more than a few floors above the street. Just in case you have to get out in a hurry. In fact you should really pay attention to the look and structure of the building that you are moving into. Make sure it is safe and you feel ok about getting out in an event. YOu should know by now that certain areas are more prone to damage and movement due to the ground the building sits on. Also try to see the property during different parts of the day. As some areas can be really busy during the day and just the opposite at night, which could be a safety issue. You will also know if you have lots of noise from the street or neighbors. Turn on the water in the shower at each place. Make sure that there is sufficient water pressure and that the area doesn't have regular outages. I would try to be located near a major metro or Metrobus line unless you are going to take Ubers everywhere. Explore the neighborhood and see what's around as far as supermarkets, cafes, etc.

I have always heard that Coyacon (sp) is the safest from quakes due to it being in a rocky area of the city. I personally always thought that would be a place I would want to live. Also, such charming area. Loved it.
@zaporizhiaisukraine1589
@zaporizhiaisukraine1589 2 жыл бұрын
Also, ask the shops next to the house, neighbors or people waiting at the bus stop, how safe would they honestly say the area is. Maybe you want to ask women instead of men too... because men can talk about: 'i've been assaulted/robbed here before, but it was late at night, so don't worry' but women apart of robbery attempts could also provide you other information such as: ''I have been gropped or catcalled numerous times, but mostly on weekends only'') Earthquakes are important, but you only need to worry about them once every X years. Personal security you need to worry every X steps.

I didn't like any of the apartments, however 2 wasn't that bad. I would see others. All of them are in "the worst feeling when there's an earthquake" area. Some of those old buildings are refurbished because they got damaged during the last earthquakes. It is a rather hectic city. I lived there for many years. I live in Queretaro now but soon to live in Yucatan/Quintana Roo. I can't deal with the hussle and bustle of this city. I like it more quiet.

I liked the 1st apartment for you...but something SUPER important to consider- pick a building that was built AFTER 1985. Mexico City tends to have earthquakes, and the older ones may not hold up as well. I believe after that massive earthquake in September of 1985, buildings were built to withstand earthquakes better. Best of luck to you sweet girl 🥰.

Maddie, thank you so much for showing us the apartments and price comparisons, it gives us an idea of what renting is like in CDMX and what we can get for the money. As for which apartment I like, I prefer the second one because it is roomy and it is on the quiet street. However, I hope you get the opportunity to check out many more apartments because for me personally, I would prefer an apartment that's within walking distance and close to the city center where you can walk to restaurants and parks, art galleries and shows, and if you decide to adopt a new fur baby the fur baby can walk with you to some of the parks and restaurants and you can eat out in the patio courtyard of the restaurant with your new baby. I'm really excited for you to live in CDMX and for new adventures that are awaiting you and can't wait for you to share your new journeys in CDMX with us. HUGS.

I am an American who has lived in CDMX for 12 years. The apartments you posted are very good value in very desirable areas. The institution I work for houses many expats in Roma, Condesa, Etc. Rents are expensive in CDMX if you want to live in the desirable neighborhoods. The issue of getting a co-signer is real. It can stop a deal from happening. But some landlords are flexible and will accept the contract without a co-signer. The apartments you posted are good deals for this area. This is what you will pay. You may find better deals but these are about the value you will get in these areas. I hope this is helpful.

Also they have no real socio-economic "power", and can be obnixious freequently. Won't be asking any US woman to even meet for tea/coffee/or a beer. Except for you, Maddie. So something that the Tangerine travels channel didn’t always showcase were BUDGET apartments. I really appreciate this video because I am just an average person, and I would find it absolutely BONKERS to pay more than I pay here in the US ($1,000) for a house in mexico. Good Luck Maddie!! My first heart thoughts are, I'm soooo excited for you, and the new lift in your voice. You've come so far and have such a beautiful journey ahead of you. Maybe, and hopefully your realtor can fine tune some showings for you....is, you're looking at a year for this next stop, a year full of possibilities in every way. Maybe think about what makes you happiest, having a park close by for your nature fixes, cool places, transportation, the part of your apartment where you'll be editing videos and such, what kind of vibes you want to be surrounded with (positive ones :) !!) Like, the more you zoom in on that feel for yourself, the more "just right" it will be for you, and I have a feeling the price will match for you, because you'll be putting it out there to the whole universe :) I hope whatever you choose, it's just perfect for your next adventure...for you....trust yourself

The advantage of the bathroom off the kitchen is that you can have a couch surfing guest who won't feel uncomfortable walking into your bedroom to use the bathroom. Also, you can be working in the kitchen and have a convenient bathroom not too far from an ongoing cooking project. If you have a small party with friends, again it's easy access. And if you are all alone in the unit, it's not a big deal to walk through your living room to the bathroom. Also the views of the second unit are to a quiet street with trees, not buildings that are peeling and falling apart or construction projects.

Maddie I love your content and always will. I think that now that you are going to be living in CDMX you should befriend some locals :). I think it's important for people from USA/Europe to realize that a 16000 mxn Rent is super expensive and IMPOSSIBLE to pay for many mexicans unless they get a roomie. We are having a living crisis in the city since landlords increase the value of the rent because they know a $800 dollar is confortable for many nomads. Even the "Condesa sur" area is not a real area, there is no Condesa Sur, it is a neighborhood called Tacubaya which was know for being a litttle sketchy but You know... marketing...they call it Condesa Sur now XD. The average salary un CDMX is less than 1000 and we are talking about people with degrees. There are many creators talking abt this issue. The apartaments you visited since they are furnished I would say their real value shouldn't be more than 10,000mxn. I AM so sorry if I came across as a party pooper, but I am not the only one talking about this, there are many creators here and on TikTok talking about the Rent Phenomenon and crisis in CDMX. I am not saying that You don't Rent there, by all means do like, landlords arent going to lower the price since there is a huge need of housing for sure but...yeah, just be aware that those princes are inflated and not fair at all.

Gentrification, its the name of this phenomenon. Average mexican population now are more forced to live outside the city center, far from work, far from the main city higlights. The traditional colonias and barrios are going to lose its distinctive personality for a more “international” (homogeneus) one.

I initially liked the first one, but the construction for the whole lease would drive you nuts!! Its a very good price for including everything for a new apartment. However, I really liked option 2 because of the space and the location. It seemed more calm and safe. Although the bathroom is disjointed from the bedroom I think it's more convenient for any guests visiting. I also like that the landlord lives below you, so its easier to handle business. The last one is way too chaotic next to that loud street and It seems a little more rough and urban. I'd say number 2 is the winner out of these.

Maddie, those apartments are overpriced. I’m a Mexico City native and rent out a 2 BR + study apartment in Roma Sur (recently remodeled) for $17,000 pesos. I would look at listings directly on a site such as inmuebles24 (many people speak English, but just make sure you see the price before they find out you’re a foreigner). Colonia Narvarte - Oriente especially - is becoming somewhat unsafe.

Enjoyed this video and seeing what some lower priced apts can be found in Mexico City. It's refreshing when I get a chance to see a House/Apt hunting video that's relatable to a budget I could afford. I liked the last apt the best but the noise level would probably be a deal breaker. Hopefully you get to shop around a little more for a few more options.

Hello amazing young lady! Glad to see you in your own channel. Having lived in Mexico City for almost the first 26 years of my life I`d strongly recommend to live anywhere else (!). Especially as a single lady... even if you were in a relationship independent women who often go places by themselves may encounter uncomfortable situations in Mexico City more often than anywhere else. Anyway, you haven`t posted in 3 weeks so I`m hoping you`ve gone else where. Since your friend is coming from Veracruz, how about trying that city? Or Boca del Rio better. Anyway, I`ll keep watching your channel. All the best!

I loved Mexico city, the restaurants, cafes, parks, museums... endless wandering...but by the end of my stay I have to admit it was a bit overwhelming... I was waiting for the metro and had to wait for 4 trains as they were packed... and people were shoved against the glass! Also I was there during a water shortage and all the laundromats were closed... I ended up paying 20$ cad for a load because the price was so high... so definitely get a place with water included. All that said I did really enjoy the city...

El DF is definitely comparable to NYC. I first went to Mexico City when I was 6. We got the in the metro at a busy hour during a rain storm. It was more than packed . I was crying telling my mom that my feet did not touch the floor. We finally got to my aunts house and when they would say we were going somewhere I would tell my mom, A La apachurada no!!!! I named the metro apachurada. Flash forward to 2016, my goddaughter got married in DF and it was during the día de Los muertos parade. It was crazy but omg fun! Don’t miss that parade and Fridas Museum. Looking forward to your videos. Good Luck finding the perfect place!

I would say, you are in the right track, Narvarte, Del Valle and even Álamos are good nerighborhoods and you can find nice places from 12000 and up, Condesa and Cuauhtemoc yes, are nicer, a lot of foreign people live there , buit you keed to look really hard because owners know that and tend to charge a bit more. But with luck you'll find a great place.

I'm from México City but I have lived in different cities like Querétaro, SLP, Monterrey, etc. You can always negotiate about cosigner, I don't like that so I always search for other options like higher down-payment that is going to come back at the end of the contract, keep in mind that owner just want a warranty and if you are sure that you are going to pay on time you don't need to worry about pay more at the beginning. Belive me I never needed a co-signer. It is true about the one year contract but again, you can always negotiate with the owner, put a special clause, the realter should help you on that, it is tottally legal if both parties agree. My best advice always always sign the contract with the owner, only the owner, you can make sure of that through out the documents, they must show you all the documentation. My favourite one is the first one, it seems super clean. The only thing I did see in any is washer, so that would be a plus is any other place.
