She's all that's left, or maybe all that there ever was....
I finally sent my girlfriend back into the world of Kingdom Hearts to battle the darkness and heartless. A few months ago I introduced her to the series and she had an absolute blast playing through the first game. When I made my girlfriend play Kingdom Hearts 2 I was expecting her to get through it similarly to how she did in the first one, but I forgot how many changes there are between the two titles. Either way, it's safe to say she's hooked on the series now and can't wait to play more soon.

She should at least watch the cutscenes from Chain of Memories so she knows what happens because those events become significant later. Giving her the authentic KH2 experience by not filling her in on COM first was hilarious. Also what is going to happen when she gets to Days and Re:Coded lol

Nah nah nah the true experience is being a kid growing up in the 90s early 2000s with no Internet finding kh1 at a game store waiting years for a sequel seeing an ad for kh2 playing the game being bat shit confused on the intro of the game like who the fuck is that scythe guy wtf is castle oblivion who's this roxas guy only to find out that there was an in-between game that came out on the fucking game boy advance then they made a remake of chain of memories that was a japan exclusive that only had the characters speaking Japanese so my young ass was horrified hearing Japanese Donald and goofy lmao but yeah kh was the absolute fucking worst franchise to understand for chronology and consistency as a kid/young teen

As someone who has done a Critical Mode level 1 playthrough... I can promise you that she is not the first person to get a Mickey tag-in going through Beast's Castle.

TBH level 1 critical isn't as hard as being under leveled in the other modes because the Zero EXP ability also gives a damage buff to Sora.

Most of the reason Crit Level 1 in KH2 isn't as insane as it could be is because of the devs expert placement of damage floors. A lot of the bosses and enemies have damage floors higher than a Level 1 Sora's stats and will secretly boost Sora's power up to that point to always give him meaningful damage, something that wasn't seen since until 3's ReMind DLC with the superbosses

@@CopyCatPhantom But there isn't such a thing in Kh2. There is a minimum amount of damage you will do to ennemies, which means you never will do chip damage. But that's not related to the Exp Zero ability. There are buffs related to Exp Zero in Kh1, Birth by Sleep and maybe others, but Kh2 just doesn't have that. The ability truly just stop giving you exp.

I would not blame her one bit if she watched the cutscenes only. Personally, I do not find Chain of Memories fun. Not the GBA original, not the remake. 358/2 days plays surprisingly well considering it is a DS title (Re:coded is even better in terms of gameplay.)

I’m gonna say no to that one. Better to just look at the summaries in Kingdom Hearts 1.5 & 2.5 final mix. Because the series storyline gets so far up its own ass that it’s difficult to keep everything straight. Better to give new players the sparknotes instead of a decade worth of handheld bullshit.

To be fair, the references in this game to Birth By Sleep came out BEFORE Birth By Sleep did. It was just as confusing for current players back then as it is to new players now.

The cutscene of Xemnas visiting Aqua's armor wasn't added until the Final Mix version later. I don't know the time frame in Japan between that and BBS, but at least for the West we got it after

@@darienb1127 KH2:FM came out almost 3 years before BBS did in Japan. As a kid who was obsessed since day 1, I remember watching the cutscenes on the internet and wondering what they meant. (The final mix games had English voice acting)

Out of all the people I've seen play this game I don't think I've ever seen someone tackle the worlds out of order. They usually take one look at the recommended level and take the easiest one first. So she got a unique experience, I guess.

The thing I find funniest about Kingdom Hearts is that it has a story more complicated than any Final Fantasy mainline title but you apply a coat of Disney paint and now you have children and girlfriends having to deal with all the puzzles and exintential dread lol

Skipping Chain of Memories and playing it later can make more sense if you think about how Sora forgot about COM due to namine. So playing it without knowing what happens is alot like Sora not remembering in 2 til later

So for anyone confused why the checkpointing is so dumb in this game sometimes, it's because the game will put you back into the last room that you entered before the encounter you died in. The intention is so you can update your abilites and such. The issue comes from when there's a long strech without a safe spot, so you get the utter bullshit checkpointing before the Demyx fight. The other issue is that it loads you back to when you first entered that room, which means you have to go back and re-equip all of your stuff. We don't get the option to just retry a fight until Birth By Sleep, and it's really stupid that they never added it back to the older games.

I'm over here praying she liked the biggest woobie, Roxas. Here's to hoping for Re:Chain of Memories and 358/2 Days next! Edit: Her reaction to the Roxas/Sora reveal is insanely amazing, aaaaah! Here's hoping she plays 358/2 Days! There's ways to play it a lot smoother now that increase the quality of life for gameplay, but honestly I just wanna see her see all of the moments in the game.

To be honest, Chain of Memories on the GBA was actually my first Kingdom Hearts game. I wouldnt get to play Kingdom Hearts 1 or 2 until 2008 or 2009

I did a lv1 kh2 run once and it was incredibly hard. Took me a whole ass year. I couldnt even imagine doing it without Quick Run or Dodge Roll!

people may dislike the slow beginning of kh2 but to me it's just so bittersweet because it reminds me of my not so good childhood with only few good memories :)

One cool thing to note is that the different nobodies you fight across the world are based off of different Organisation members like snipers for Xigbar, card minigame for Luxord, etc. The ones that blocked off Donald and Goofy before the Roxas fight just also happen to duel wield and have the same "The end" minigame with the command menu.

As someone who uses Vivaldi, Firefox is probably better. Google is changing how Chromium handles reading websites and parsing them through plugins (look up Manifest V3 for more details) at some point this month, and if it works as described, it's going to all but kill the methods that adblockers use to figure out what's an ad (Google didn't explicitly say this, but the adblock devs figured it out from the technical details, which of course are being pushed as "safety measures"). Firefox, because it's one of like two browsers not built on Chromium - the other being Safari - is going to be unaffected for longer than the rest.

Playing KH2 first, not knowing what is going on and being confused about everything and only then playing chain of memories is the genuine KH experience.
