He did real well getting through the hardened surface of broken axle-shaft and using basically off-cuts of scrap to make a nice tool. Using splined end of a heavy truck axle was pretty inspired and saved a lot of work. The only difficult part will be setting tool to cut an exact diameter without any form of micro adjuster It wouldn't be too difficult to make a fixture to hold a fine thread bolt or even micrometer barrel, you can even get Mitutoyo replacement barrels pretty cheap (I know as I bought a few when I saw them on offer)

Watch that drill wobble into the hole at 25:33. The tailstock looks off to do that. Also, with everything welded up like that how does a person take it apart to repair it if it needs it? Yes, welding spatter falling onto the ways of the lathe. Great looking ball shape but, he can ONLY make one size radius.

The most 'hand made' component I've ever seen. I don't suppose it's accurate to 'thou's of an inch but all things considered, such as the ancient workshop machinery, it's well turned out and looks fit for intended use. The video ended abruptly about two minutes early and left me wondering, Is it some sort of jig for making ball pins for the likes of truck steering parts ?

Says in the title its for turning tie rods. Doesnt have to be accurate, just get it close enough then do the last half mil or so with abrasive paper ^^

For a ball turner it's probably more accurate than you would expect. Probably gets to 0.0015" before trying to polish surface, would only leave more if ball is case hardened and finish ground. With a micro adjuster to set tool it could be accurate to better than 0.005"

Excellent craftsman and he doesn’t use any oil to lubricate another guy says that it’s against what you want you want it to cut not glide,but me oil makes my bits last longer than without.

Поражаюсь трудолюбию этих людей, молодцы! Но сама шароточка непрактичная. В свое время я тоже заморочился с изготовлением подобного устройства.
