I am not where I want to be with my minimalism but I went thrugh a process. My Biggest take away would be (until now): 1. Just because its nice, doesnt mean its for me. Clothes, books, blankets, picture frames can be nice, but it doesnt mean I have to keep them, I can sell/donate them so someone Else can use them 2. Do I keep this item for ME or to support how I want others to See me? 3. Almost nothing is trash. What you seem trash or not sellable/donatable May be a tresure for someone Else. Doesnt mean Put unwerable clothes to donate, but maybe upload them to give away for Free so someone who wants it can have it

I really like how you mentioned that you are not on your cell phone around your kids.I have met more than a few really screwed up kids who's parents paid more attention to their phones. than to them. They grew up to have horrible behavioral issues.Who wouldn't ? They can't feel loved or nurtured that way. I am 60, but when my kids were young, women watched soap operas as a break while the kids were napping. We spoke on the phone and if no one was home when you called, you just called back(before answering machines).Life was so simple then...

I so agree with screens. While I plan on having a TV, I don’t want my kids to have their own devices of any kind until high school. And I only want screen time to be a shared experience, like watching Disney classics. It should be a family thing, not an escape or babysitter. Children need to be bored to be creative, happy, and peaceful! And 100% with not being on screens around kids. It sets such a bad example and is proven to increase ADHD if they’re on more than 2 hours a day. They should play with bugs, run around, learn to cook and clean properly, read books! Love your example Madisun 🥰 It gives me hope in a world that says it’s impossible to raise kids without screens. Hellooo, we’ve done it for years! And that doesn’t mean it’s our job to constantly entertain them. They can and should be bored!

One of the biggest, most encouraging lessons I’ve learned is that you can take your time. Some things I haven’t felt ready to release until recently, and that’s okay. It’s not about reaching Minimalism. It’s really about the journey there.

These are definitely the reasons why I started this journey. I am definitely not a naturally clean person, yet mess makes me stressed out. We are still in the middle of our journey, I hope that in the next few years we can get where you are:) Favorite things I have learned is that kids don’t need all those toys, and more does not mean better. Why do we always think more is better? My Grandparents have always lived simply and still do on their 100 acre farm. I like to think I am going back to my roots.:)

I love how many now minimalists are actually messy and disorganized. This is exactly me! I'm so stressed by the constant cleaning and moving things around and putting away of things. And then buying more and never being content... I've watched a good amount of minimalism stuff and you make it the most clear cut and simple for me. I also love your slowed down lifestyle. You've reminded me that this is a choice! Thank you🙂

I recently found your videos and to be honest I can really relate I’m gonna say for the last 4 years I’ve struggled with this and I feel like I’m stuck and drowning with the management of the possessions we have. I use retail shopping as therapy and I’m exhausted. Your videos are helping me to realize that it doesn’t have to be black or white but doing something about how much anxiety our house gives me is just not working for me anymore. Thank you!

I've been on a decluttering journey for the last 2 years. It's been slow going, and I keep discovering more and more I can let go of. My kids are grown, but one still lives with me. It's been challenging to let go of so much, yet try to be respectful of his wishes with things he has attachment to. Once I have the place to myself I will reduce further. Right now I;ve sort of minimized as much as I can without driving those who live with me crazy.

I was sent Minimalist Home by Joshua Becker to review back when I had a minimalist podcast with my husband and the book was coming out and loved that book too!! I've been a minimalist since 2006, but I LOVE listening to people's stories of how they got to where they are now as a minimalist. I am a newer viewer of yours and am slowly going through some of your videos to get to know more about your family. Very inspiring and awesome. I love that you want quality time with people as it makes all the difference!!

I just had my first baby and after I had her the goals and life that I used to want have completely changed. All I want now is to live the most simple and slow life and be with my little family, I am struggling as I have to go back to work in a few days, but I hope I can get to a point where I spend my days at home with my baby gardening making my home simple and minimal and just really enjoying life. Your videos have inspired me in so many ways. I think you’ve even changed my outlook on life. I’m so grateful for your videos. Thank you.

So much truth! As you were speaking I looked at a top shelf in my kitchen of glassware I’ve been saving for special occasions. I am an entertainer and in the last three years haven’t used them once and instead they just hold space. I wonder if some of us love the idea of the feeling of freedom that a decluttered life will offer but also fear what an empty shelf or wall or room will feel like too. Are we okay with emptiness and less even when it doesn’t serve us? Interesting question that I think deserves some introspection. Love your channel and your mission!

My family loves to entertain friends and relatives. But because I am the only one doing much work beofre and after, and pandemic happens which most of our stuff was not used, we fealized we didn't need to much of plates, glasses etc. We decluttered and save just a few for special family occasions like Christmas and decided we will buy and use paper plates/cups if needed. Less work for us washing and putting back things.

The military traumatized me into being much more organized and tidy. However, my ENFP nature is much more spontaneous and if I had my way, I’d like like Colin Wright. The beauty of people like yourself and I, Madisun, is that we can find the joy and enjoyment of life in simple moments and natural beauty, spontaneous fun, much easier than our counterparts. We show them how to have fun, they show us how to keep the lights on. Thanks for sharing your story!

So good, Madi! I wish I was at the point you are at your age - it took me a bit longer to get to the point where I realized stuff is just stuff, but it has been such a valuable lesson - one that I'm still learning from every day - admittedly, I backslide, but am still learning, growing and trying to have grace with myself. I get caught up sometimes thinking there are certain items I don't want to get rid of when I know that ultimately, there is no "item" that should mean that much. I think it's a very timely lesson for all of us these days. Would love your insight on natural products to replace more chemical-laden medications, etc (adults and kids) if you have them.

I’ve been reducing for the last 2 years in ebbs and flows. And honestly, YES I have regretted some things I decluttered. But it was a fleeting regret that was masking something else. Fear. Once I sat with that feeling and uncovered it, I realized I was ok not owning that thing and I had been living just fine without it until my fear bubbled up. I’ll be ok without that one basket, that one shirt I never wore, that one cake server I got for 25 cents at a garage sale. It’s an exercise in letting go.

Hi Madi, decluttered heaps of stuff from house 24 years worth, mostly donated to charity. The problem I have is my beautiful wife Lynn passed away from uterus cancer 2.5 years ago. I still have all her clothes, shoes, coats, handbags, toothbrush everything this is a tough one. I’m building up the courage and hopefully can clear 90% of it next year, just keeping some special items. Wish me luck.

So sorry to hear about your wife. I am really inspired by your story and your courage to confront it all and live into the present and future more fully. The question I have asked myself as I go through sentimental items is, "Does seeing this item encourage me to live with hope for the future?" I also have had success with taking photographs of items before I let go just to keep the reminder of the memory but let the physical item go to good use with someone else. Sending you love.

Madi you are so wise dear and sharing such an incredible gift with each of us with these lessons. It's crazy how we think we "need" all these things when really all we need is so little. I'm still in the beginning of my journey but have downsized already at least 50% with a recent move. Working hard on my why and as you quoted the how will sort itself out. Every day I'm getting rid of a little more and making room for more in other ways in our lives. So blessed to have an beautiful 3.5 year old son who I want to only continue to treasure each day with him as time is truly the biggest gift. Focused on quality over quanity and time together living simply over bringing more things in our home. Building my decluttering muscles as I've heard. My mom passed 2 summers ago suddenly, she was my best friend. My heart I feel may never heal but as I make peace with letting go of her things as she had so much has been the hardest. Trying to bless others and bring them joy with her items helps. But sometimes I do just have to donate and let them go. Freeing myself. I've written too much... just want to Express how grateful I am to have found your channel. Thank you & many blessings! 🙌💗🌈
