This single was a UK Top Five hit for British band Madness in late 1983. Video and audio have been cleaned at top London studios.
Lyrics:
It's raining again,
I'm hearing its pitter patter down.
It's wet in the street
Reflecting the lights and splashing feet,
Nowhere to go,
And nothing I have to do, have to do.
It's raining again,
I follow the Christmas lights down town.
I'm leaving the flow
Of people walking all around,
Round and round,
I hear the sound of rain falling in my ears
Washing away the weariness like tears.
I can feel my troubles running down,
Disappear into the silent sound.
Just walking along,
My clothes are soaked right through to the skin,
I haven't a doubt, that this is what life is all about,
The sun and the rain.
Scraps of paper washing down the drain.
I feel the rain falling on my face
I can say there is no better place
Than standing up in the falling down
In so much rain I could almost drown.
It's raining again
A crack in the clouds reveals blue skies
I've been feeling so low (low)
But now everything is on my side
The sun and the rain.
Walk with me fill my heart again
I hear the rain falling in my ears
Washing away the weariness like tears.
I can feel my troubles running down,
Disappear into the silent sound.
I feel the rain falling on my face
I can say there is no better place
Than standing up in the falling down
In so much rain I could almost drown.
Do de do do de do do do
Do de do de do de do do do

My favourite Madness tune! Like someone else has said here in the comments, I also suffer depression and anxiety which really can be debilitating to me 90% of my time (I almost ended things last year), but listening to Madness always cheers me up and brightens my day. This one alone is enough to leave a big smile on my face without me even realising until after the video! So, if the guys ever see this… lads, thank you for everything. You guys do more than you know. ❤️🥲

I can sympathise with you, Tina. I too have a high level of depression (take 150 mg pills every night), in addition to this I was diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome in 2017 One of the nicest traits about Suggs and the rest of the Madness guys is that they obviously don't take themselves too seriously and don't mind doing silly little things on the videos which can help. I also find that the sound of running water, like on a dark wet night when you have a bedroom window ajar can prove very soothing. I am sorry to hear that you suffer like this but I am also glad that you have found some ways of helping you cope. I wish you all the very best for the future.

Every Thursday night I would get my tape recorder and put it next to the TV when Top of The Pops was on hoping for the the next Madness song , and yes this was the song I captured with my tape recorder. Next day I would go to school smug as F"?? with my new Madness song, I would play it to my friends over and over again. To this day, Madness is still my home!! Thank you.

1985. I was 17 years old and about to embark on my first solo trip to England. I remember listening to this and falling in love with the country, already before I'd even arrived physically. Peaked at just No. 72 on the Billboard Hot 100 in early 1984. Song was a big hit in their native U.K. the year before in 1983.

One of my favourites too. Madness to me were always a breath of fresh air amid all the poncy New Romantic and Electronic keyboard toe gazers playing pretentious crappy 80’s music at the time.Their songs were always down to Earth mostly cheerful pop songs for the common man.
