I miss when Madonna had a full band. She always had the best musicians. There's a marked difference between 1985-1993 and 2001-onwards. The tours are still amazing but there's nothing like that sound you get from a full band.

Since 2008, The Sticky and Sweet Tour she has taken a full band on the road with her. The promo shows like Brixton she had a small band with Mirwais as Musical Director. Then 2001 - 2006 Drowned World to The Confessions Tour Stuart Price was her MD and yes most of the music was on computers. That was because she was making electronic music.

Madonna Ciccone is as Italian a name as you can get yet she’s all Detroit muscle and work ethic. She also as American as you can get. Ambitious!. She wanted to get to the top and she did it. This show was actually the game changer. Not the Blond Ambition Tour. This tour in 1987. Theatre. Characters. Moving side walk. Pop concerts were never the same after this. This tour was a world tour unlike the 1985 Virgin tour which was just in the states. Roll out of a new artist. Seeing if she got traction as as a performer. ✅ She did. In 1987 she rose to the highest level of fame and scrutiny world wide and has stayed there ever since. No social media. Entertainment Tonight. Newspapers. Network news. Magazines articles and cover stories. It was huge and so impactful. No social media at all. Madonna mattered. Then and now. I am 65 years old. I’ve seen every tour. I have remained curious. An American girl from the Midwest. Most successful female artist ever. Records and performance. So damn cool.

boriana radkova Actually Madonna considers herself to be an American worker. Midwestern work ethic. Disciplined and always willing do the work. She’s very much an American who navigates throughout the world. Her creative side does reflect many cultures that’s for sure as well as her philanthropy but she’s red, white and blue all the way.

Re-watching this makes me realise just how damn good she was and is... to me, her best work is years later, the Ray of Light album... but she deserves being called the greatest of the 80s along with MJ and Prince. For me, this is Madonna's best tour and concert, the fact that it was in Italy, where her family comes from, makes it so epic, the energy of the Italian public, they adored her, she exuded so much sensuality, she looked beautiful with the look of whos that girl, she was so young, she had unimaginable energy, 100% stage presence, 10/10 choreography, I think it was Madonna's best time in my opinion, it was her peak.

Vocally, you can notice an improvement from her Virgin Tour/Live Aid performances of this song (2 years earlier) to this one. She hadn't yet taken her Evita singing lessons, but I'm pretty sure she was studying some vocal training already in the mid-late 1980's. A proof of that are her vocal improvements from one album to the following: she sang better in Like A Prayer album (1989) than she did in True Blue album (1986), she sang better in Erotica (1992) than she did in Like A Prayer, she sang pretty similar in Bedtime Stories (1994) than she did in Erotica...

I'm not a Madonna fanboy, but I can honestly say this is performance is truly inspired. I owned it on Laserdisk and played it a lot.I saw her live in Paris in early '20 and it was quite sad by comparison.

Madonna is an incredible Artist, she is quite simply the greatest Artist of all time!! Now, lots of people slate Madonna with regards to her voice however in actual fact she is incredibly talented, she is able to do a highly energetic performance whilst SINGING live, if her voice sounds slightly off at times it's probably because she's dancing and is struggling for breath!! even Michael Jackson's vocals were slightly weaker when he was dancing and in later life he resorted to lip syncing!! Madonna deserves SO much more credit for her multitude of talents!! This Performance was absolutely incredible!!

Andrew Phillips also for her to be this energized and kill it with this being the last performance...and still have the gas is incredible. The whole concert was a cardio test and she's singing...not that fake lip sync bull.....she's a classic talent. Nothing fake or phony. Pure bred born for performance

Andrew Phillips Michael had some breathing problems, and his choreography was more intense than Madonna’s. I LOVE Madge, but there’s no need to bring Michael down. He only lip synced for his last tour, the HIStory tour, because he was sick, and even still he didn’t lip sync the entire time...

Everyone talks about lip syncing but nobody seems to consider overdubbing. And a lot of live shows that get recorded for a ‘live’ dvd go through an overdubbing process. Jus sayin.

I am surprised by how deep her voice gets when she sings. Her speaking is nice, womanly, sultry. Her Minnie Mouse stuff in her early songs is so different from her speaking voice.

People dish because they can never live through this time. people weren't stuck in a phone, people actually interacted. If you didn't experience the 80's and Madonna in this period, you can dream and wish that someone like Ga Ga could even come close, that won't happen. Madonna will always and forever be the greatest female artist ever. There will always come pretenders to the throne, they will always fail though.

I agree, but Madonna today... not the same... and it has nothing to do with her age. It was another era, another mindset, another energy, and another social and political context. There actually was something to rebel against, so everything she did made sense. There's still something to rebel against, but it's definitely not conservative values.... it's more Wallstreet and crooked politician, and that hardly excites young ppl. At that time, the US were selling sexual revolution everywhere... and she was part of that. Just like MJ was part of selling a multicultural society. Values that young people inherently like. Still, aside from all this, the magic of Madonna was a lot due to her rags-to-riches story ... nowadays popstars mainly comes from privileged backgrounds.

@retrocub : the ideal society is somewhere in the middle between conservatism et progressivism, which was the case during the 80's. Only people who didn't studied the matter think it's binary.
