Michael Jackson & Madonna will always be linked due to their stature as pop superstars of the 1980s. The rivals sort to bond together with a musical collaboration for Michael's 'Dangerous' album. However, after a date at the Academy Awards, the two fell out in the press and the single never materialised.
This is the music icons relationship according to Madonna's own account, with some less than flattening insights from Michael.

I think they were both right about eachother. Madonna got to where she is by being assertive and powerful which being abrasive and cruel at times is expected given the massive barriers she had to tackle. A lot of celebrities have said she’s not kind and honestly I can totally see it but u don’t blame her, it’s definitely a defense mechanism. I mean look what happened to Michael. The kindest celebrity of all time and he was brutalized up until his murder. The only thing that was wrong with her is she should have learned to be kind but cruel when necessary. She never found that balance.
@ACMr2d2
@ACMr2d2 Жыл бұрын
I think that she was kinder towards Michaell than the inverse. She always said good things about him a always defended him and in return, he said that she was nasty and jealous just because they had disagreements on certain things and different tastes. Michael was soft-spoken but he was not the kind as he wanted to be. According to Quincey at the time they worked together, Michael accused Prince of trying to kill him (really?) and there were other situations where he mocked Prince. I think that Michael always tried to hide instead of dealing with his own negativity and that was what ultimately lead them to use all sorts of medication to stop his hate toward himself and the pain that came with this self-hate and insecurity.

First off, stop using the Word “Cruel” for Christ’s sake, she’s just a blunt & honest person who does not suffer fools at all, which is how she rose to the absolute top, in a male dominated industry. The reason Michael said the shit he did was because Madonna was bluntly honest and told him he needed to change his image and break out of the same one he’d have for decades. I mean, if anyone was aware of the importance of an image change, it’s her and sadly he didn’t listen and couldn’t move with the times.He say’s she’s jealous, but she was his equal in the fame department and she’s not into fans fainting for her, but he was envious she could constantly change and grow musically, go out in public and be free and outspoken.

If you wanted to cry and feel deeply, you knew that both would make that song to bring you to that place. Their interaction was always very interesting and complicated. I think that Madonna always had a genuine care for MJ but I believe they had conflicts because not only are they polar opposites but I think she had completely different expectations of him, had a lot of notions and desires in her head and was met with what she probably saw as a frustrating walking contradiction. As time went on I think she let her notions and desires go and got to see him as he was and that's why I think she always stood up for him in later years. I think he would appreciate that, she's also more complex and deeper than he got to see. It's always better to have someone reveal themselves to you for better or for worse but has your back when push comes to shove, than to have someone smile in your face, say everything they think you want to hear but stab you in the back.

Their relationship must be the most interesting one in history. They are called as King and Queen. One was worshipped and later people all desperately wanted to drag him down. The other was always mocked as bi..h, but she never let others to undermine her dignity anyway. One had dream of childhood fantasy_seeking otherworldly visuals like of space, the other had penchant for human's desire and instinct, some of things of the lowest ground. It seemed they are totally different, but they had something in common. They were the one of the kind, the most creative people, the era changing figures in culture. And they could share the loneliness of the height. I think Madonna tried to change him, exposed him to her aesthetics. But in my pure assumption, she changed her opinion after she watched HIStory tour, then she understood the visuals Michael had, and respected his vision and artistry, and took him as who he is. Madonna always knew what vulnerability was since her mother's death, but she just didn't let others use her own. As much as she was tough person to be around, manipulative and controlling to her surroundings, she had heart and sympathy for weak people who didn't know the way to defend themselves. People who have been forced to shut their mouth by others, she rooted for those people and wanted to represent them. She understood how the masses can be violent to others just to feel secure of their own faith. And she was never afraid of peer pressure. Even though it makes her alone, she's the kind of person who will choose her own faith, tell the truth that she knows, and most of time the truth she saw was right, it was ahead of its time.

+FAsZiNierT TOtAL This is true. Madonna always loved Michael as a person & as an artist. Their falling out in the 1990s is just Madonna's abrasiveness & bluntness rubbing Michael the wrong way. She didn't know how to act around him & tried to boss him around too much. Girl probably had nerves around him & that's how she expressed herself. But she NEVER kicked Michael when he was down. EVER. And she said firsthand that she abandoned him in that 2009 MTV Speech after his death. She has regrets for not reaching out to him more in the 2000s & she kept it real in that speech. Michael was who she emulated herself after. She wanted to become his counterpart. In her Instagram no other contemporary is talked about as much as Michael Jackson. There was one where she sitting with some other lady & talking about her muses with their pictures on the table. One was Frida Kahlo. One was Dora Maar. One was James Baldwin. And one was Michael Jackson. And the picture with Michael Jackson was a Bad Era concert pic mixed with a pic of young Madonna from 1981. Their faces mixed together. She REALLY likes that pic & has displayed it on her Instagram before. Whatever she couldn't do in his life, she will avenge him in his death. Something carnal went on between those two. You just look at Madonna's 1990 Blonde Ambition gold outfit. Then look at Michael's 1992 Dangerous gold outfit. Madonna's crotch area looks like a vagina on the gold part. Michael's crotch area looks like a penis on the gold part. Those two are REALLY connected in ways we can't imagine.

Madonna still tried. She was still a vocal public supporter of MJ. After his death... when even more allegations had been heaped on MJ, when the world was changing & the Me Too movement was gaining traction & TO NOT believe a "victim" was UNHEARD OF... She still tried. Madonna still supported MJ. Regardless of the consequences, she still tried. Gotta respect her for that. It turns out, she has one great big set of brass balls.

I used to side-eye Madonna a lot. I tried to dismiss her accomplishments because of her sometimes rude behavior & the willingness of the mainstream to promote her in line with the old Elvis Effect-A White artist getting all the glory despite the work of the Black artist. But I had to get over that. Over time I had to realize that Madonna was legit. You don't stay around for 40 years if you're a fluke. And as much as I still resent the Elvis Effect, her being White is not the total reason why she gets her glory. Old Hollywood actually liked Michael & snubbed Madonna. She looked up to Marlene Dietrich & Marlene called her Trash. So she wasn't as welcome & accepted as it may appear. And being Female has its own obstacles just like being Black does. She always wrote her own music & she LITERALLY changed the game for Female Superstars & Superstars in general. She innovated so many things & broke so many boundaries. Who am I diminish her accomplishments? But ultimately what turned my opinion on Madonna is that she's not a phony or a fairweather. She has character & courage. When she says something, she means what she says & you're not gonna run her off of her stance with peer pressure. She NEVER ran down Michael about anything important. When the witchhunts came, she didn't pile on Michael to get ahead. And she easily could have if she wanted to. But she didn't. Instead she backed up Michael against the tide. MULTIPLE times. When looking back, I wish Michael would have spent more time with Rude Madonna than Sheisty Rabbi Shmuley the turncoat. She would have never stabbed Michael in his back like Shmuley did. She would keep it real with Michael & he needed that. She has regrets on not making a better effort to reach out to him in the 2000s era. She wished for that connection too. In death, she upholds him constantly. No other contemporary is talked about as much on her Instagram than him. Madonna always admired Michael as a person & as an artist. She wanted to become the Female Michael Jackson, his counterpart. And she has done that. If Michael is the King, then Madonna is the Queen. I'm fine with that comparison. The only one to come close to challenging his utter dominance on the charts was her. No one beat him but she came the closest. Janet Jackson is the Queen of Rhythm because she was never seeking the crossover specifically. Madonna is rightfully the Queen of Pop as counterpart to Michael as the King of Pop. And Michael, Madonna, & Prince make up the Holy Trinity. She earned that position & I have to acknowledge that.

Well, guess what? they add another show (a day after), and I just backed from this 2nd concert, today and all I can think of is that we might don't have many concert's from artist over sea like others countries in Europe (and like the states for sure), but we sure do has the best love to give for those who chose to come over and perform. P.S both shows sold out 65 thousand tickets *EACH*. I'm inspired ~

Madonna and Michael Jackson in a duet!!! YES! And she would be PERFECT in "In The Closet"

I forgot she wasn’t part of We Are the World, which was ironic as she was already skyrocketing with the fame above the others. And I agree I wanted Michael to cut his hair really short as well.

People gotta remember, back in the 80s and 90s Madonna was young. She said and did some stupid stuff as to be expected. Now she's Alot older and more mature. Some of u can hate on her if you want, but she defended MJ when he was in trouble....don't forget that. From Bashir to LN....she didn't follow the MJ hate train. MJs so called friends turned on him...she didn't.

Mature how, she's a old hag who still thinks she's the hottest woman in the world, but the truth is that she's an old stripper, egocentric and narcissist, who make every calculated move, using everything and everyone on her behalf. Michael didn't like her, he was not her friend. He knew who she is.

there is a difficulty coming to the fans in saying she was a bit arrogant and that’s no hate when even MJ demonstrated that

I adore Madonna so much, I had always had a massive crush on Madonna since when I was 9 years old, and I got into Michael Jackson since when I was 5 years old, and I grew up loving both, but despite allegations that were against him , he is amazing and always always be my Idol No matter what, I worked on, and studied his dance moves and dance walk, people wouldn't believe it and worked on his voice singing chords, I have done Karaoke in different places, and people have loved it, someone commented that I am the Michael Jackson taken over

"I tried to have an influence on him." Sounds like she was trying to control him & change who he was. Glad he didn't let her do that nonsense. In the same breath, glad they mended their differences & that she defended him.

Weird isn't it, the same MJ image she was criticizing and trying to change is what really made MJ, that's the reason millions of fans liked him so why tamper with that? She had some serious issues.

Considering that she has never held back and says her truth unapologetically she has always spoke about Michael very respectfully. I agree with her that Michael should have updated his look as he got older. In saying that his look is iconic.
