this entire show was and still the best madonna vocal performance, she will never do something like this again. erotica is a mad unappreciated album, but madonna delivered her best all the time, that's why she is the queen.

It's a weird album. I had it on cassette when I was 15 and didn't like it very much. Rain was the only track I liked really, even though I was a big fan and it was actually the 90's. I like about 5 tracks off it now though.

@@GraemePryce1978 It's a grower. My favourite tracks are "Rain, Whys It So Hard, Words, Thief of Hearts, Secret Garden, Waiting". Apart from Rain, the album tracks are way stronger than the actual singles.

Well, she’s definitely grown into her voice since training for Evita took place. It’s a noticeable improvement in the years following the mid 90s. But the Girlie Show? I’ll pass. And I say it as an obsessive fan. It’s a weird selection of songs, creepy performances and odd vocals. But I appreciate that it was fully live and a major stage production at the time. Still would be epic today. Just… maybe better song selection. I hate to say this, but also, as fans, my friends and I still imitate and laugh about how she sings here. “Raaaaaaaaiiiiinnn” and “…tell me how you feeeeeeeeeeelll…” omg it gets me everytime, 😂 lmao. Thank God for Evita vocal training.

@@erikm8372I am a big theatre and opera fan, to me Girlie show is an absolute miracle. Very alternative, theatrical, surrealistic, parodistic. She switches roles from an operetta spubrette to an"en travesti" (pants-role) figure. Different, weird, everything that I like. I had to coming around with Confessions for years because to me it was too generic 😅 now I see why that is a favorite for so many Madonna fans and I actually really like it but BA and Girlie have a special place in my heart forever.

This tour means so much to me cuz I seen it 3 times, and lucky is the word, 1st was NYC, then Montreal ,Quebec where I happen to meet a paparazzi that knew madonna, I breifly met her after the concert was over, we met, gave me a cute hug n said thank you after I told her I loved her, ill never forget that til the day I die.

She has a beautiful vocal style. She doesn’t always tap into that range since she’s always changing her style/image, but don’t tempt her with a ballad because she will come thru.

Heavy rain here today, and I'm making a playlist with that theme. This song came to mind, and now I'm down the rabbit hole. I just heard the studio version and now this video, clearly live, is a treasure. Not only is she singing at her peak, but let's have some love for the other singers who are flying formation with her. Cannot believe this was 1993 when it only seems like yesterday when I saw this at Wembley Stadium in London. I was so happy she had her hair like this that day rather the long false piece she'd worn at some of the concerts 😊 stunning

***** No one dances and puts the same amount of energy as she does, not even the latest generation of female pop singers. But I do think she has relegated her voice to the backburner, which is shame. Still love her performances, though.

see this is what i've been talking about...Madonna needs backup singers who can sing and dance and have fun...Donna and Nikki were wonderful for Madonna...they had a wonderful chemistry together...they always backed her up vocally so she could dance and sing live...she was more confident then because she had strong singers...now she has these studio singers for backup...it's just not the same

Her choice not to use the backing singers as front members of the show. She did that to Donna in the confessions tour, maybe that's why she stopped touring with her. Her backing singers since Donna and Niki have had equally good voices that compliment Madonna, it's just that we don't see them as much as Madonna has chosen not to use them in the main part of the show anymore. If she did, maybe they would have the same affection as Donna and Niki ha. Her ego must have been dented.

Jake Jones notice how she heavily incorporated her backup singers on all of her tours pre- American Life. That album must have sent the “Madonna’s old and over,” comments into overdrive and absolutely dented her ego. At that point Madonna wanted to make sure that people focused primarily on her and remember why she is still standing. She probably decided to minimize the onstage connection between her and her backup singers as much as possible going forward so people wouldn’t start to think that it’s Madonna + Friends or that she’s repeating herself by having them in the front with her everytime.

+Joanna Rivera , how it happened was day before the concert I met a guy that turned out to be a paparazzi that was friends with Madonna& long story short, I met her, only for 4 minutes but we spoke, we hugged, & kiss on cheek n said nice to meet you handsome, it was thee BEST EXPERIENCE.

Even though this was before my time, I kind of miss concerts like this. Nowadays, most concerts (including Madonna's) rely too much on screen projections and flash. Back then (like the Girlie Show), it seems like the focus was more on the singer. There wasn't the distraction of a million other things happening onstage at the same time. Know what I mean?

Guys, on Soundcloud you can find a version of this performance with only Madonna's vocals in ti (without the two back up singers). It's so raw and emotional, I highly recommend it.
