I am old enough to see that some pop starlets entire career is based on this one single interview: The (raspy)voice, melisma, attitude, topics, overall mood and (harsh) makeup! Her entire career is based on 15 minutes of Madonnas life! Reductive! Joanne Gairs makeup must be among some of the most iconic looks of all time. Boiled down to a formula and reduced to emphasize the most striking features of Madonnas face: Almond eyes and an eyeliner, the straight Italian nose contoured for the gawds, the black beauty mark and the striking red lipstick! This is pop culture heaven. She looks like an Andy Warhol print! A look perfect for reproduction. This is a makeup tutorial before Instagram and TikTok! She is everything!

It was a different era then. There was no social media in 1990, so the only way to reach millions of people was through traditional media like TV, magazines etc. Now it's easier for artists to bypass that and go straight to fans via social media

@dearjessie83 I disagree that Beyonce isn't bright. I think that she is intelligent, but traditional sit-down interviews aren't necessarily her strong suit. Also, in early interviews, Beyonce is a literal teenager. In this clip, Madonna is in her early 30's, and had been doing these types of interviews for almost a decade. In her (Madonna) first print interview, Liz Rosenberg had to tell her to look at the journalist and not her. Everyone starts somewhere

Omg you guys know exactly what he is talking about. There is a heavy filter over the video like many fan social media accounts use to make Madonna look inhuman. It’s a weird smoothing filter. They do it to a lot of films when releasing on blu ray these days. They call it DNR. Digital Noise Reduction. It’s terrible, but it is what is is.
