Although I was not a "fan" of Madonna, I respected her achievements. Then this album came out, and it resonated so deeply it has remained on my playlist for 25 years. What's so impressive is that she could masterfully create an entire album so different from all her other work, before and since. Not many artists have achieved that.

I agree 100%. The demands of capitalism often hinder artistic creation, limiting the ability to produce masterpieces like this album. Despite these constraints, some artists manage to transcend them, showcasing their resilience and creativity - and not reproducing it makes it even more special.

Exactly the same here. When this album dropped, I hadn't heard any of the tracks. I walked into a record store (remember those??) and they had this album on full blast with Ray of Light, and Frozen. I couldn't believe what I was hearing and I thought for sure that it was some electronic artist who had somehow talked Madonna into lending her voice to a few of the tracks. I had to buy the album, and was convinced I was now a Madonna fan. But alas, the next album came a few years later, and it was back to the same old pop fluff and tired, forced sex crazed vixen type. So that was that. But this album is timeless. She was at the absolute height of her creative journey here. Now... she looks like a pumpkin, addicted to botox, filler, and collagen lips. All that spirituality she claimed to have found here, completely gone. I feel sad for her, honestly.

It changed my life, too. And due to outside circumstances, my life was changing in any case. With drastic repercussions, the death of my partner. This album, know it by heart, it helped me to dance my way back to happiness, crazy as that sounds.

It's just too bad her face looks like a pumpkin now. That spirituality she seems to have found at the time of this album, completely gone. She's all wrapped up in clinging onto her youth, addicted to filler, botox and collagen. I see her now, and I feel sad for her.

@@sirex02 EVITA really pushed the boundaries of her voice as in S T R E T C H E D her very thin voice even more and you could hear her voice practically cracking having to sing that high, etc. with vocal lessons. EVITA I wondered if it would go to Carol Channing at the time but then realized that somebody else would get the role and Madonna did and she did a great acting/singing job with Antonio Banderas.

Exact same here. I remember like it was yesterday when I saw her Like a Virgin video for the first time on Top of the Pops ... I was completely smitten and her music has accompanied me since then. I am now 50. I was lucky and got to see her during her one of her Drowned World tour concerts in Berlin, was one of the best natural highs of my life.

Before Ray Of Light she had nothingg to proof as a musician. Songs as Like A Prayer, Oh Father, Live To Tell, Bad Girl and many more existed prior to ROL Erotica and Bedtime Stories existed before Ray Of Light

William orbit had a lot to do with the tremendous success of this album. I believe it was many Grammys. She knows who to partner with. She needed to get back into great dance music, and she certainly did. Some of the lyrics are absolutely profound.

It's 2023, and her music still remains PERFECTION....beyond compare to the nonsense music nowadays, plus with all the arrangements, compositions, creativities, sound effects, and with that so unique Madonna voice.... All the songs have so much meaning, so poetic, deep, divine,yet so realistic with so much wisdom in all the lyrics.... It makes you feel the pains of life in another light, yet gives you so much inspirations in life, even just a Ray of light, from where it comes from, from the sunlight, or from your friend, is all that we need to be moved, and to fight and have courage in this journey we call LIFE.... MADONNA, thank you so much for all the boundless inspirations and courage you have given me through my entire life!!!!!!

I came hear because of the "Urban Pop" Podcast here in germany, broadcastet through NDR Info. Although i am into Metal since the very early 1980s, Madonna was "always there". From her very beginning she was visible to almost everybody. I am much more open minded nowadays and are "able" to just listen to kind of albums which have nothing to do with Heavy Metal or Hard Rock. This here is not my kind of music - but it's done very well. Super big production. And Madonna....is an ICON! Greetings from germany.

Exatamente cara. O álbum tem uma produção fora do comum, e fora que a Madonna estava passando por uma fase totalmente mais confiante e mais espiritualista com o nascimento da sua filha, a entrada para a Cabala e as práticas de yoga trazem todo esse conceito mais animista para o álbum.

Pra ela que nunca foi lá essas coisas vocalmente (sejamos realistas), esse álbum combina muito e casou com tudo. A voz cantada, as letras, os sentimentos, os instrumentos. 11/10.

Some might hate me for expressing the following, but after years I still strongly feel this: I agree this might be the best Madonna album ever. I remember it came out around the time Honey by Mariah was a huge hit and I had them both. Since then, I have wished Mariah's vocals were scattered across few songs of Ray of Light, as a background vocalise or front singing. Every time this album starts I want to hear Substitute for Love as a live Madonna-Mariah duo (lol even saying it sounds weird impossible!); Ray of Light really deserves melodic recognition. I think both artists have big brains, so I think it might be the smartest live contribution they can achieve 🙈
