These people got it wrong. Madonna is NOT being criticized for aging, she’s being criticized for contorting her face trying to be 20 again.

No one is judging her for getting older.. They are judging her for what she has done to her face.

NOBODY IS COMPLAINING ABOUT MADONNA GETTING OLDER! We are complaining that she thinks she has to butcher her face instead of simply goring older.

Madonna is the one who has the issue with getting older. The pressure not to age is making her lose her mind. There's nothing groundbreaking or rebellious about having this much surgery. The only people she is empowering are the surgeons and the powers that be.

The supreme irony here is that she's not being criticized for aging, she's being criticized for attempting NOT to age with the aid of horrific surgical "enhancements."

This has NOTHING to do with ageism or her getting older. It's about a plastic surgeon talking her into cheek implants and lip fillers making her look ridiculous! Celebrities are saying there's nothing wrong with aging, yet they're doing everything they can to make themselves look younger, but just end up making themselves look creepy and disfigured. She's on her way to looking exactly like Pete Burns.

I was taught “if you have nothing nice to say, don’t say anything at all” But the problem with Madonna is she built her career on wanting people to react to her. You can’t have it both ways. And isn’t this just another way of keeping her name on people’s lips?

Look at her face! Madonna isn’t embracing nor celebrating getting older. She’s just another woman who has illustrated the relentless pressure NOT to age. By going under the knife to this extent shows things are just the same in Hollywood/music business as they’ve always been. If it makes her happy then that’s great but she’s not fighting for change. We need real disruptors who can push for real change. REAL ones.

Madonna you have not been fired because you are older. You just built a career on being sexy and provocative which has paid off big time. When you're in your 60s and 70s it becomes harder and harder to keep that up. Find a new story and evolve is the only way forward.

I would have thought Madonna would have just aged gracefully and let the world know that women can age and still be considered beautiful. I never imagined she would go this route.

As a woman of a particular age myself, I have to say I think those who are outraged are reaching. It's not Madonna's age that comes as a shock when she steps out in public: it's the extreme cosmetic procedures that are altering her appearance beyond recognition. The relentless pursuit of a cartoonish build a body/build a look ideal that mimic the current IG beauty trends is what feels entirely off brand for a woman who has spent a lifetime as a brazen, unapologetic individual and pop culture pioneer.

It wasn't her age or getting older that folks were reacting to. It looked like she'd had too many facial injections. You can overdo injections at any age.

Not the right way to fight perceived ageism. It’s just an excuse. None of us like to lose our looks but I prefer to look up to someone that embraces it positively.

The reaction toward Madonna's appearance is not specifically related to ageism. It's due to her choices of cosmetic alterations such as overuse of fillers and mediocre plastic surgery. Many stars have grown old more gracefully with better cosmetic procedures which let them retain beauty as they physically mature. Ageism definitely, tragically exists and is especially unfair to women as we grow older. The only relevant issue in regard to ageism and Madonna is the sense that she is desperate to remain young looking at any cost. This only makes her look older and unnatural. That desperation which some women feel so are pressured to buy extreme attempts to create artificial beauty is a world apart from balanced, grounded choices of enhancements which allow the glow of inner/outer beauty to shine through an aging body.

I don’t think this is about getting older but more about what EVERBODY is doing to prevent looking older.

Madonna is an icon and always will be. What is sad about Madonna is she used to be THE trend setter. Now she is in her 60s following the trends of teenagers.

There is beauty in getting older. There are many who doesn't get to experience to live longer. My friend lost her job in her late 50s. She would get hired, then fired two weeks later. There are laws against Ageism on hiring older women ( and men) in California.But, what happens is the employer gets past this is by keeping the older woman only a week or two weeks. This nonsense needs to stop.

I think what her example says to me is that if there wasn't such pressure for women to stay young looking, she wouldn't go to the extent she has with the surgeries and just let time and experience show on her face. Maybe that should be the Focus, the pressure to stay young is hard to cope with.

It is possible to age gracefully even in the industry she’s in…Celine Dion, Aretha etc. are/were still appreciated and selling shows later in their career despite the fact that they aged.

While I won't pretend she doesn't need to stay away from the surgeon, I love how people avoid seeing the Instagram influence on her current look. There are plenty of girls in their 20s looking like over contoured blowup dolls, getting praises. Look at her videos from the late 2000s and there is plenty of negative commentary about women her age not dressing like that, even though she looked amazing well into her 50s.
