What's happened here is this. The marketing people at Coors have decided they need a 'Mediterranean lager' to appeal to the easily duped sheep who are prey and do what they're told. Coors have an in-house 'craft' beer outfit called La Sagra that produces mediocre 'craft' beer. They got this brewer to oversee the development of this beer to appeal to an LCD clientele in the UK that likes Peroni, San Miguel etc who've been persuaded ( not difficult with these people) that this is the beer to be seen drinking and that they're dead cool following the herd. I've tried it and was totally underwhelmed. Understand that my go to brands are Titanic, Siren, Cloudwater, Vacation, Bristol Beer Factory, Southwark Brewery, Windsor and Eton. There are loads more and even more I've not discovered from so many countries. I'm not wasting my time drinking this trash. It's like clubbing. I'm not going to a Popworld. Proper underground gaffs are my go to places.

Agree with you absolutely about the finish. I had mine ice cold, so it was crisp and refreshing, but that didn't kill that excellent finish which is what makes this beer distinct. Would definitely buy this again.

I spent a month in the UK late last year and this beer quickly became my favourite, a lovely beer with many pubs having it on tap.

I can understand why alot of people would think this beer is almost contriversal, because its obviously just a mass-poduced lager with huge marketing behind it. It really did almost appear out of nowhere. With that being said its an affordable decent lager (like you said) and its almost absolutely spot on for a big session. Easy drink and refeshing, im a big fan of the stuff

I went to the local ex service mans club to watch the Liverpool v Chelsea cup final, they had this on draft. Id never had it before and was surprised how nice it was. They had Stones bitter on draft too, didnt try that though lol. :) So 7 pint of Madri and watching Kepa balloon his penalty over, it was a good day :)

I heard Madri is the 1980s Carling recipe bk then Carling was also 4.6% volume so it kinda makes sense but not sure how true this is.

I bought 4 cans of this In a mini supermarket on my way home a few weeks ago. I really liked it . Carlsberg should hang there head in shame! Good honest accurate review.

Yea i had for the first time in the middle of the heatwave very drinkable, is it as good as the main Italian beers maybe not 7out of 10.

Suddenly popped up everywhere as you say, including pubs on tap. An easy drinker. Nothing to write home about but not a bad pint.

Contains: Barley, Wheat. Contains Barley and Wheat. Madrí Excepciona has an ABV of 4.6% with a light golden colour and a thin white head, that lasts well.. that what Google says the ingredients is mate

Everywhere this gear at the moment. Definite step up from usual pub beer (Carling, fosters etc) solid if unspectacular.

I think Paul takes the biggest first swig in the Business. 👍 I don't mind a madri in the Summer.

Had this on tap having not seen it before and loved it and before I knew it it began appearing in supermarkets. Very drinkable, refreshing and tasty and at a good price. Think this is going to be popular.

I have recently started drinking this, lovely taste and i would say it is more like 5%

I very much enjoyed this beer, mate. Not going to win any awards or anything, but I liked the peppery finish, it is quite different in that regard. Been going down very nicely over the hot days we’ve had over the Easter period! Great review!

Had this a few times. 50 50 id say. You wouldn't go out of your way, but nor would you walk away if you see it reasonably priced.

Waited until today to try this. Asda 4 for price of 3. Good to lager but could of been a warmer day to drink it. Saw it on draft in pub £4.60 a pint.... which is mad but that seems to be the way beer in pubs is going.

Thanks for another good review Paul. I first saw Madri about 6 months ago on draft in my local boozer in Leigh On Sea. As you say it's everywhere at the moment. For me, This beer can't beat the Top Tier Spanish beers of Red Mahou, Alhambra, Moritz or Estrella Glacia. I'd probably pitch this one around The CruzCampo/San Miguel/Estrella damm Level. Got it in morrisons big bottles 4 for 3 Or 12 pack 330ml 2 boxes for 20 quid. Been meaning to give it a go for a while.

I had this wonderful beer yesterday for the first time in a Swansea pub. I really enjoyed it. It initially gives a malty flavour, lemony and crispy in the middle, and leaves you with a burb at the end. 😂

Better than the alternative lagers in the pubs I've seen it, though better options in the supermarket.

I think the bottle cap is cool. Kinda reminds me of the Bavarian flag, especially if it was blueish instead of black. Cheers

I really think this is a top lager. Looks great, including the head, very creamy, very drinkable, extremely smooth... not very often a lager differentiates itself, but I think this one does!

Yes this popped up in my local supermarket in the last 4 weeks too. Seen brewed by coors and couldnt find ingredients either so it was a pass for me. Might give it a go because of the review.

I personally didn't like this, I found it quite bland with no distinctive flavours, like a supermarket own brand lager, I wouldn't buy again that's for sure.

I took my 17 year old son out for a drink and we had a few of these... not the best but better than Carlsberg!

So its Barca vs Real in the beer world! Estrella Damm vs Madri but Estrella is brewed in Barca and Madri is brewed in the UK. Its OK I had it on draught in my local and I would drink it again in the pub this summer.

Heard nothing but bad things about this watched this review jumped round asda got a crate of 12 for a £10 not quite estrella but for a house bottle lovely 7.1 out a 10

As good as this may or may not be it represents everything I hate about the brewing industry in the UK. It's dressed up to look like a Spanish beer, the label has "El alma de Madrid" on it and the box of 12 bottles even has one side written in Spanish but if you look at the bottom on the box or the small print on the bottle it says "brewed and packaged in the UK". It's fake just like all the other foreign beers cheaply brewed in the UK from Stella Artois to San Miguel etc.. It may be a Spanish recipe, it may be brewed with Spanish ingredients ("may") but it's not brewed by Spaniards with Spanish water and Spanish expertise. It's just another macro brewery knock-off pretending to be something it isn't. Why would they even pretend if the real thing wasn't better? I refuse to support their duplicity so I won't be buying it but next time I'm in Spain I'll give it a try.
