Praise from Bernstein's children: “Bradley Cooper included the three of us along every step of his amazing journey as he made his film about our father. We were touched to the core to witness the depth of his commitment, his loving embrace of our father’s music, and the sheer open-hearted joy he brought to his exploration."

@@jonazo7188 Exactly! And I wonder how many of the people who claim to be offended are actually Jewish. (I bet it's the minority.) I saw Bradley in the old age makeup and immediately thought, "Wow, he looks like my grandfather!" My grandfather was a Jewish man who immigrated from Ukraine (which is where Bernstein's family was from). I think the makeup looks incredible. I am not at all offended by the prosthetics and I don't know another Jewish person who is. The genius of Bernstein was that he immersed himself in the writings and notes of each composer, especially Mahler. Without sheet music in front of him, he knew every note of every instrument in his orchestra, and precisely how he wanted those notes played. Musicians had no uncertainty about it. It's the job description. Every professional conductor knows his material note by note. And this skill is a part of the standard curriculum. Considering we have a probable future where we all just consume art as ‘content’ through AI algorithms designed to keep us stuck to the screen for ad breaks, all automated, all without humans or artistic endeavour. Its not far off and so many people have proven its right around the door, digital human avatars that look and sound lifelike can already be created, so can scripts through AI. Until that day comes let’s just enjoy some of the original artistic films still coming out, and just enjoy it to the fullest. One of my fondest memories as a child was when I’d visit my great grandparents, Grandma would put on Leonard Bernstein’s Young People’s Concerts. It was a way for her to try and pass on her love of the arts - as if her grand piano and Grandpa’s clarinet didn’t say enough. But those concerts stuck with me. I remember sitting in music class, and being asked about the three parts which make up sonata form. I remembered it from those concerts.

My Dad was friends with Lenny in grade school. He even participated in the famous "Carmen" show where Lenny played Carmen. Bernstien was a tremendously gifted musician and conductor and composer. I had the good fortune to see him conduct at the Hollywood Bowl. A fantastic night I will always remember especially the Beethoven! The sound was round.

I'm really looking forward to this one, but I'm not expecting a traditional biopic at all. From what I've heard, it just isn't what he intended. Instead, this is a story about love above all. Also, I know this project is so personal to Mr. Cooper, and he has put so much time and effort into making it that I have no doubt he's done a fantastic job. He's already shown that he can helm great direction while weaving a compelling narrative, honestly shame on the Academy for not nominating him for Best Director in 2019.

This movie is an extraordinary work. Extraordinary. Bernstein was a real Amercian bodhisattva. Almost insanely extraverted, he was a vehicle for music. All the work he did explaining music to us, he let everyone in and was tireless in all the extraverted pursuits. But they energized him. There is a scene with Felicia where she tells him that nobody else can breathe and that he's hurling the music at us and makes it seem so effortless, we don't get a chance to come to it and real find our way through all the complexities and form and emotion and she's right. It's amazing work. Cooper is perfection.
