In a riveting interview, Sygnia Limited CEO Magda Wierzycka discusses her controversial views on ESG investing, emphasising the need for genuine impact investing. She highlights the importance of tackling global issues like food security, renewable energy, and healthcare innovation, particularly through ventures emerging from Oxford University. She discusses SA's new government of national unity and calls for DA chair Helen Zille to leave politics. Wierzycka also critiques the AI hype, calling for realistic expectations and innovations in chip technology. The conversation delves into challenges faced by South African innovators due to funding reluctance and explores promising investment themes, including cancer and obesity drugs. Hosted by Nielsen Network CEO Bronwyn Nielsen, this interview offers deep insights into responsible and impactful investment strategies.

I would like to differ with you. Just like some politicians, Zile reached her diminishing return. Nothing can be brought into of her. If I had been in her position, I would retire with dignity and let my legacy speak and take advisory roles. Great examples in this regard, Nelson Mandela, Galena Motlante, Trevor Emanuel, etc.

Helen is only brilliant to those with a low intellec or who are fond of her racist tendencies. And I know a lot of you are going to accuse me of using the race card, but I don't give a "F"! You should listen to what this woman said and not come here with your rigid views that Helen is never wrong. DA is a scam, just like the ANC. They just manage to hide it better.

Who is this woman to say a national asset like Helen Zilla should go? It took superb skills to deal with the devious ways of the ANC. This lady has so little credibility in comparison. South Africa needs Helen Zilla and she never runs from the fight no matter how devious the opponent because she loves South Africa. She should be careful who she disparages... the comparison is not to her advantage. With all Helen Zilla has done..... you DO need to apologize.

So what is better Magda, killing of the children of Gaza to continue and no one in the world to raise a voice? This woman seems unbelievably materialistic. Very interesting just before the pandemic, she knew somewhat to invest in Astra-Seneca. And why must Zille go? Should we replace her with Malema? On climate change: Climate will always change - to try and regulate how much Co2 or other greenhouse gasses is near impossible. To little CO2 and no essential component for plant growth and releasing of O2. Personally I thin we should be focusing on climate change resiliency. Low lying areas are and have always been 'climate change' catastrophe areas. I'm not saying we should be willynilly about our output, but also be mindful that curbing it to severely, may have another/other unintended consequence 🤷

Disagree with your opinion about Zille. How come the polarising ideas of race are still being used in RSA in 2024? Humans are supposed to be gaining consciousness now and not be bound by archaic divisions. We are the HUMAN RACE. I find your opinion that the winter storms that have hit Cape Town being proof of 'climate change' quite rediculous and unscientific. You cannot use numbers of displaced people (due to winter storms )without actual context. The Cape of good Hope has been called the Cape of Storms since the 1600s! Please! How about realising that our environment is so toxic that it causes so much disease that humanity needs to awaken to the Truth of why we are suffering so much? Let Truth be part of what we think, do and say.

HZ is the democratically elected leader of a non-racial DA membership. A DA that garnered support from nearly 7m South Africans of all colours. People who support the values the DA espouses - no matter how inconvenient the colour of the skin HZ may wear. The self-serving and misguided opinion of the woman paraded here is actually irrelevant.

The DA did NOT garner support from nearly 7 million South Africans! About 16 million people voted. About 22% voted DA That’s about 3.5 million people who supported the DA. (About 3,5 million voted both provincially and nationally)

I’m a DA supporter, but unfortunately DA support is not increasing. About 4 million people voted DA in 2014 and that number has declined ever since. Yes, voter turnout has influenced this, but the DA is definitely not growing as a party. The DA is seen as a White party because most Whites vote DA and most DA leaders are White. While there have been a few Black leaders in the DA, they don’t stay around. There are many people who think Helen Zille is the reason for that.

South Africa should go full Brics. We need to diversify ourselves away from the US and the West. Brics can provide us with most of the things we will miss from the West. To hell with the West's dominion and hegemony we are tired of it. Anything will do as long as it is not the West. To hell with the biased institutions of the West that alwsys favour the West. The likes of IMF, ICC, etc.

When people can grow up perhaps the landscape would look greener for all 61 million South African's, most of whom are in poverty with the highest unemployment percentage globally, we are becoming nothing more than consistent to the rest of the African continent, we are living the consequences to the poor quick fix ideas and policies, what we pretend not to see or actually don't see, is that these consequences will hurt the majority even further in the long run with not focusing on real meaningful future sustainability. Further why should it matter what the colour of our governance is, all is what is important is that we have proper, ethical, clean competent governance from wherever and whomever can and/or is able to offer this, that will deliver the real and actual difference to all South African's lives, who really thinks or believes that a black, brown or white person cares who made that water come out of the tap, what is important is that the water does come out of the tap when required. Our focus, attention and effort should be on creating and ensuring real sustainable futures for all South African's, this starts with the youth coming up through the ranks with high quality schooling, 30 years down the line we should have been well on our way, sadly not, too busy playing silly games

I do not agree, Helen Zille is the Margaret Thatcher that helps the DA to stand strong and make the right decisions. She works extremely hard and has many years of experience to assist young DA members to grow.

its not about her not being a brilliant politician, master strategist, and negotiator, Its about the fact that, if she had the wisdom and insight, she would have made sure that the DA had nurtured and promoted promising young black leadership into the top echelons of the DA over the last decades.

The future of the DA or South Africa does NOT depend on skin colour but on principles and commentency. If this doesn't appeal to the broader voter, then so be it. Fundamental Principles should not be negotiable. Voters deserve the politicians they vote for.

Thank you. I listened up to the point where Ms Wierzycka says Ms Zille must go. Her own replacement in her won business was a flop, and she had to return to stabilise the business. Ms Zille will step down when her party says so. What is more, how many whites were in the ANC delegation that met with the DA to negotiate? Works both ways.

Fully agree with Magda regarding her views on the DA and Zille. The DA has nothing to celebrate after the last general election as the only gains they made were winning back some of the White vote which went to the VF+ in 2029. I am afraid the DA will stay a low 20% party until the day it markedly transforms

Helen was pivotal in setting up the GNU. If this was left to anyone else it would of been a 💩 show. Helen is principled and follows the rule of law and believes in accountability. This woman speaks about good governance from a business perspective but yet in the same breath will dismiss Helen who stands for good governance.

Magda is 💯 % on point. One would not understand her sentiment if one js trapped in the same old me and ourselves. When you step out of that, you will realise that it is irrelevant in the current South Africa, to build a prosperous country that we all wish for. The spirits and principles of the apartheid are still lingering and there those who are terribly scared to let go. Although at the same time, they do not want to associate with them. It is a sad reality for change.

I have great respect for Magda, but... She is an investment expert and yet she is unable to convince companies to invest in South Africa; but she has the gall to critique Helen Zille's contributions to the South African landscape. She also says that obesity drugs are shallow, but yet political appointments by race seems to be acceptable to her. She would not apply in her own company, the appopintment rules she expects the DA to apply. 😂
