Anyone who thinks this doesn’t know Broadway. She was on Broadway and in two Broadway adaptations. As well as her one of her first movies Camp. Plus all three pitch perfect movies. She may not have a “singing career” but you can listen to her on Spotify just as much as Justin Timberlake. To me she’s a more talented singer. She has a huge range and is an amazing belter.

To answer Maggie's deep question, the message I took from that, wasn't that people should be automatically happy, but that what we are told what should make us happy and might not be true. It felt like a way to teach kids to check on their emotional well-being. Branch sings again but also stays true to his less sparkle ways. That felt important.

Garrick had a really good point about waiting to have the actual singer sing until the very end - it genuinely works super well in Sing and I guess Trolls is going for a similar thing. That hadn't really occurred to me before.

Garrick the reason why Justin Timberlake didn’t sing much because he was the one choosing the music for the movie. He is the Executive Music Producer and he is the one who hand picked the celebs to be in the ensemble who could sing well. Also, this was my fav animated movie UNTIL Sing came out! It is amazing

I felt like eating trolls was more a metaphor for capitalism: desperately trying to get something because you think it will make you happy, even if it hurts others, and failing to see what you do/can have as it is. I didn't even think that it could be interpreted as anti-meds or anything 😮

Freaking love Trolls!!! I'm 34 and it just takes you back to feeling like a happy little kid singing along and dancing in your seat. It's just so fun. Oh and then I got to go with my 2 year old cousin to watch Trolls LIVE and I had so much fun singing and dancing with him and watching the live action trolls dance too, it was so cool. I was gonna eat an edible before the show started because I thought it wouldn't be as good as the movie, but OMG it was so great. I think I was like the only adult who really enjoyed it. But it was so fun, I'd totally go if they did a live for the second movie too.

Listen I think we can all agree no cover of a Beatles song will ever beat an original. However to have such disdain for Across the Universe makes me so sad! The songs ARE good, they don’t have to be better than originals to still be good. The cast was top notch and the cinematography was absolutely gorgeous. Plus it touched on a topic that was relevant at the time of the Beatles height of popularity, the war, immigration, police brutality. Paul McCartney even liked the movie.

The way that they flipped the harmony with the melody in "Because" always gets me. I love that movie so much. "I've Just Seen a Face" is visually stunning and the fact that they all sang on site in addition to prerecorded vocals? I disagree. I think they very much need to do an episode on "Across the Universe"

I'm SO GLAD you mentioned the opening scene in Trolls World Tour because it's definitely my favorite! It's the exact opening from one of my most favorite things to watch, the phenomenal movie music duo, Interstella 5555. It's a film that goes with the entire Discovery album by Daft Punk.

I would love someone who is deeply engulfed in musical performance to just teach Gerrick about musical theater. Every time he talks about musical theater it makes me sad because the way he characterizes it is just so false and it hurts. Musical theater is at the cross-section of every art form. It features acting, dancing, singing, instrumentation, visual art, and so much more. It tells a story in a way that is meant to be more poetic. You don't stop time to sing, you stop time to express emotions you couldn't express through just talking. You allow the audience to know exactly what you're feeling. Also, a lot of musical theater songs don't stall the story and freeze time, a lot drive the plot through song. I don't think Gerrick has to like musicals because I get it, we're obnoxious, but the way he characterizes them makes me as a theater actress hurt inside

For the spooky season, my guilty pleasure is always going to be Eli Roth's "Clown" - it is a genuinely good movie and it's fucking *terrifying*, but the reason I think it's a GP is because the plot, without spoiling it, is fucking insane. Like this is an idea you and your buddies had when you were high and feeling dumb but my god Eli pulled it off so well

first of all i loved trolls. definitely agree that everyone should give it a chnace because you will probably be pleasantly surprised by it. HOWEVER, i have never wanted to fight someone more than when zach said across the universe is a bad movie. SIR, you are absolutely entitled to your opinion of not liking it, but to call it out right bad & compare it to kidz bop is slanderous & just plain wrong. 🥊🥊

Garrick also loves Sing?! Yes! It's such a guilty pleasure for me because I love most of the characters and the plot but the world building makes no sense. Unlike Zootopia which made a believable world for animals of all sizes, Sing just takes place in a regular city with nothing sized for smaller animals. A mouse drives a normal-size car, I don't know why it bothers me so much, but I still enjoy the movie and would love to see an episode on it.

If a musical is done well the story line can move along without the setting having to change to show the story moving. Sweeney Todd, Chicago & Rent I think are all good examples of that

Dang it. I really enjoy rewatching whatever movie(s) and then listening and fully reacting with y'all. It's a bummer that so many aren't available to stream and I'd have to rent it. I love trolls so maybe it's worth it this time. But I can't even find spice world anywhere! That really got me down bc I want to listen to it so bad but absolutely need to watch it first.

Oooo A great spooky movie I would LOVE to recommended is, Trick R Treat ( 2007 ). It's a very underrated horror film that many people seem to love. Thank you so much, great work on the podcast and many blessings for more!!
