Because that title belongs to Maggot Baits.
And yet despite it being so utterly despicable, it’s unexpectedly remarkable. I’ve got to say, underneath the cruelest forms of horror. I did not expect it to unravel the truest forms of love.

I actually like Maggot Baits more than euphoria for its settings and more linear story telling. Also the witches are way more appealing than sailor suit girls.

Even Maggot Bait storyline was paid off well in the end (with a good villain) but i still prefer Euphoria. Euphoria had the small cast of characters that I CARE, while Maggot Bait had colorful cast but didnt utilize them enough outside of their H-scene. Even the H-scenes in Euphoria felt like it belong to the context of the story due to Death game setting with sexual theme. One of my most memorable experience from Euphoria is from Rinne Byakuya route, her sudden turn into a cultist leader that i could no longer recognize the girl that i was invested in, i felt despair just like the protagonist. Maggot Bait should toned down the H-scene and focus more to the characters, the shocking scenes are only just as shock if they can at least make me give a damn about the characters...

I watched another review about this VN a while ago and a quote they used to illustrate the experienced was: "Sometimes, we uncover the most profound lessons about love and life within the depths of tragedy" so I'll give the game a shot eventually

In my opinion Euphoria still hits harder with the love story reveal, but the Normal Route End in MB is just MWAH! Absolute cinema, arguably better than the True Ending.

I wish to hear minor spoilers. What's the normal and true end like? Is the former that good that it's worth subjecting myself through all this?

@@imfinishedgrinding638 It's hard to describe the ending with only minor spoilers, honestly. Normal End is good because technically for the main cast it is the worst possible outcome, but for anyone else it is the best one, with a character being granted seemingly absolute power, but being unable or willing to do anything actually meaningful with it. It's that contrast that makes the whole thing shine. True End on the other hand is still pretty good, giving depth to characters that were merely in the background in the Normal Route and expanding on the general topics of the VN (violence, religion and purpose), but it delves quite a bit into the power of love. In general it really depends on how weak your stomach is, but the novel lets you know what you're getting into pretty early on, so if you can stomach the first ~2 hours without a hitch i'd say you're good to go, if not then of course reconsider. There's also the ol' reliable skip button and gore/scat filters if you REALLY want to see the ending without experiencing the horrors.

Bad ending was so excruciatingly tough of a slog to get through and I never was a fan of futanari so it was absolute torture so I put down the game for a week. So if it were you, would you want to swap the endings between normal and true end or you find it fine as is even if one is objectively better over the other?

@imfinishedgrinding638 Oh yeah unlucky, in this house we prefer not to talk about the Monkey House, it's probably the worst part of the game that they added for both shock value and the amount of routes. Honestly, no. Neutral end works better as more of a standalone episode, not really delving into the backstory, lore and whatnot, and it's really damn good at it, but the Good End is more of a definitive conclusion to the novel that gives you clear answers and closure.

I always wonder how VNs like this get popular with regular audiences. But I may try it since I've read similar things. Also, I do want to mention that I don't like how the Japanese portray Christianity as most of them do not understand it even at a basic level. But at least it can be ignored for fun action scenes.

@@LordComradeAnarchoCapitalus Bible quotes are common and easy to find. But many have not actually read the Bible and the context of them. The Japanese tend to use Christian imagery and themes simply because it's cool OR the Catholic church makes makes for a common enemy when taking place in certain types of stories. Those are typically the two reasons. But the Japanese typically don't have a good understanding of the material they are using when it comes to Christianity.

Not to get all theological or religious on you guys, but having looked up a spoiler-filled synopsis on what the game says about Christianity, wow does it get pretty much everything wrong. Like, if it was just trying to use Christian symbols and imagery as a cool factor, that would be one thing, but no, it is trying to critique the whole religion, saying things like how Jesus’s sacrifice only led to a world filled with more suffering and the like, even misinterpreted why he asked why God had forsaken him on the cross. Not to mention it saying that Christ is the god of our world, which is again, false. The Bible says that the god of our world is the devil, and he is the one responsible for all the suffering in the world, which existed long before Jesus came to Earth to save it. Heck his suffering on the cross was not an act of despair and hatred towards us or the world, but rather him taking on all that so that we wouldn’t have to suffer instead. Man, this ended up being far longer than I meant to be. Just that I find this story’s attempt to be more than just a mindless piece of guro-schlock to be highly inaccurate.

I doubt they actually intend it to be "Biblically accurate" if that even means anything. Christianity, though a lot of people don't want to see it that way, is basically mythology at this point. And there's a lot of ways to interpret myths. Cause really at the end of the day, there is no one accurate version. Not even the Bible

@@KhiemNguyen-ly1wz It’s just that, for me at least, if you’re going to make a critique on Christianity, you’ve got to really understand what it is about and what the Bible says, not just have a surface level understanding of it. It’s one thing if it’s just for the coolness factor in terms of imagery and the like, and it’s another when you’re seriously attempting an analysis and criticism of it. Just me though.

You're operating on the premise that the Bible is the one accurate or right version of the Christian mythology when it really isn't. It's no more right than the Prose Edda for Norse mythology. It's all just folk tales. There can be many versions of a story.

@@KhiemNguyen-ly1wz about a third of the world's population is Christian, so Christianity is not a dead "mythology" comparable to Norse mythology, and by the way, the main reason that Norse mythology died out is that its adherents were convinced by and converted to the true faith: Christianity. While there are multiple Christian sects, they all consider scripture (the Bible) to be sacred. If you are Catholic you also don't have to worry about interpretational disputes as the Catholic Church has preserved and clarified upon the meaning of the original teaching handed to humanity by Christ for 2000 years and shall continue to do so for the foreseeable future. Yeah, Christianity isn't going anywhere. It is very much a living faith (in fact the only truly living faith) Alleluia.

Just recently getting into visual novels and every time I hear about one of these cursed ones like Sadistic Blood , Gore Screaming Show and such my brain goes "challenge accepted!". Only place I found this one it was priced at $45 though so might wait for a sale.

when i say i WEPT at the true ending, i am being completely sincere. the gore was fun to read, but the tragic interpersonal drama and lore stuff kept me fascinated til the very end. not to mention hamashima's amazing art and character designs, and knowing she had a hand in the game's writing too...she's an eroge MVP in my book also let it be known i am madly in love with sandy and that probably says a lot about me 😂 i know she's a villain but her design, personality and voice are so badass and cool. she makes my weirdo lesbian heart race lmfao. i love all of the witches but sandy is just so My Type i fell for her the moment i saw her

5:24 Well a big part of Chirstianity is free will, we were given free will to do what we want, and we will be either condemned or rewarded for it after death. As for violence and the like you shall not kill is pretty clear. God also condemned Abel to walk the earth for killing his brother. There is also no black and white and god acknowledges that, there are multiple instances in the bible of God giving blessings for something that has happened. Like Abraham's servant that was cast out was repaid in blessings. Things that were done out of circumstance were often excused etc. Well yea that's about what I have to say.

Took me awhile to buckle down and read Euphoria. I’m not reading Maggot Baits. I really don’t like gore, torture, murder, or any other macabre theme you can think of. Currently playing Kara no Shoujo and I just want it to end (which I think I’m almost done with the game). I think that game is worse (in the gruesome aspect) than Euphoria is, but I’ll bet Maggot Baits makes Kara no Shoujo look like Sunday school, so I’ll just pass on it

People are too biased about this visual novel. I've read many of the 'best visual novels you should read before you die' But only Maggot Baits has left this mark of beautiful sorrow on me. even that no one wants to talk about it. It is my favourite and not only because I can enjoy the H contentent in it. Even that it's like 80% of the time, It has so much more with all these existencial worrying of some witches as Wilma, books it refers to, inexplicably attractive atmosphere of evil Kanto's pandemonium night city. Carol and Shougo are very lovely couple too. Also the twisted love of Simon to Yaldabaoth captured me. The Red Harvest ending and it's theme song are most beautifull thing I've seen in a vn. Whole ost is great to me. I hope there still people on this video, who somehow likes this vn just like I do. Have a nice day!
