Emily Ocker's Beginning is perfect for any circle or cylinder knit from the center out. It's a lovely beginning for top-down beanies, tams, circular shawls, and octopuses. Yes. Octopuses.
The Knit Octopus Pattern is free from the lovely PurlSoho Shop in New York City. I love their designs. www.purlsoho.com/create/2018/... Thank you PurlSoho.
Make a sweater based on YOUR YARN, and YOUR GAUGE and have it come out the exact size you planned it to be. I've helped over 100,000 knitters do exactly that using my common sense approach to sweater knitting in the video workshop, "How to Knit a Sweater" at cherylbrunette.gumroad.com/l/.... Join me. It's a life changer. And it's super affordable.

When I learned this technique we slipped the stitches off the handle rather than the hook of the crochet hook, much easier. Love your videos, so clear and easy to understand, thanks!

Yes, I've done that too sometimes. It depends on the handle of the crochet hook. Some are really fat. You are so welcome and thanks for commenting and reminding us of this.

You''re welcome Diane. I made an octopus that gave me many opportunities to practice this technique . . . 8 to be exact, plus the one to start at the top of the body.

Just for clarification, the "Magic Circle" or "Magic Ring", also called a "cinch circle" is the beginning circle of yarn she crocheted over. The "Magic Loop" is knitting a small circumference, on a long circular needle. Hope that helps people understand what she showed in this video.

Thanks for that clarification Tamara. I like the name Emily Ocker's Beginning the best but like many terms in knitting, there is more than one name for the same technique.

I learned this method from the same book because I was also knitting that same circular shawl. It was probably about the same time, too, as my eldest daughter is in her mid-30s and I made the shawl after she was born. I always go back to Elizabeth Zimmermann's book if I need to review that method. Thanks for the helpful video. :-)

Thank you. Seeing this done with your 'fiddling' and tightening tips for this cast on...I think now I can succeed in knitting a set of Knitted Knockers. During the off season of my work a couple years ago, I bought fine circulars, special yarn and joined a group whose members make them (for free) to gift to women who've had mastectomies....and I just couldn't get the cast on. Now I think I can.

Love it!!! Crocheting slip stitches into a modified magic loop to cast on a circular knitting project :-) Hmm, wonder if a foundation row of Tunisian crochet could work as a cast on method for straight knitting (or if there would be any benefit to using a "Tunisian cast on", aside from being a breeze for crocheters?

Yes. There are often different names for the same technique, although I think this really was Emily's contribution quite some time ago. Something I see too often on KZfaq is that a demonstrator will show a technique originated by someone else and not give credit and change the name a bit. I think that's rude, but I'm old-fashioned that way. If I can track down and give credit for a unique technique, I do.

This doesn't have anything to do with this video but I was wondering do you still use the Bond knitting machine.. the reason I ask is that I was thinking of buying one.. I love knitted sweaters and the knowledge to knit but I don't have the patience to knit a whole sweater by hand.. and was looking at the Bond incredible sweater machine.. just wanted some feedback

That’s wonderful Cheryl! I have so many projects to finish but would love to try this out at my own pace. I work full time and there just aren’t enough hours in the day. I’m glad I asked.

Can the child's size 1 sweater on your website be adjusted to fit an older child? My granddaughter is 2 and I'd love to use this pattern for her.

Just by your voice, I can tell you are a no nonsense person and we could chat all day about the lives we have lead and the challenges we have faced. Thank you for this video. Now I have to head on over to your website.

Hello again Cheryl - I removed my previous comment because I saw that you did actually have a sweater tutorial on your channel - so I thought I'd watch that instead. But after nearly two hours of viewing I realised at end of episode 12 that the tutorial is not complete - What a complete waste of time and terrible frustration. You pull learners in with promises of a free tutorial, then after faffing around we find the free is not free at all. I think that you treat beginners rather badly - Regards Peter

All of the videos in that series are "unlisted," parts 1 through 15. I don't know how you gained access to them at all and if you gained access to the first 12 I don't know why you couldn't access the last three. I guess I have to go back and make them all private. Had you approached this differently I would have been happy to grant you access to the entire class for free.
@anepictree
@anepictree Жыл бұрын
@@CherylBrunetteTV I gained access to them by visiting your you tube channel. Parts 1-12 are listed as a play list. I thought that I had probably been mistaken and that you did have a jumper course so I thought it respectful to remove my original comment. However I (after spending a couple of hours watching) realised that it was the same thing I would have to pay to see it to its conclusion. It is not the money that bothers me, it is the false pretence. For your information many very good and genuine businesses are put out of business by upstart companies offering things for free, but they survive because they actually charge, free is just a lure. I do not wish to take your class. I seriously dislike the approach, I have now been caught out twice. I think you should try and look at the experience from the channel users point of view and you would have a better idea of just how frustrating the entire experience has been. Respectful Regards. Peter Caine.
